"USA Ramen Adventure 2017" is the tour title on the official tour blog on shonenknife.net. Full day-by-day breakdown at the link above. Venues broke the news on Facebook. Information to start with from Good Charamel and Shonen Knife: 😴 Zzzzzzzzzzz for further instructions please stay tuned to this channel or contact your local emergency live music authority.Eventually, it turns out to be this. 29 stands in 34 days, from the official SK tour map at Google MapsSo, this is weird. To start with, we have the Sellersville Theater at the beginning and the Bootleg Theater at the end, with an empty 30-day middle. All you can say for sure is that they seem to like venues that call themselves a theater. Or, possibly they plan only to play halls where David Lindley has been. Supporting in Sellersville are Holy Toast, described as all-instrumental punk rock. Holy Toast are promoting their first 5-song EP and coincidentally including the Sellersville Theater's sound guy. I'd call HT an '80s horror surf-pop post-punk garage stadium party band.

Sounds good to me! I'll don the Broccoli Man name tag again and see who else I can meet.
I wonder why they are revisiting LA so soon; it seems like it was once every two years, and now it's 7 months after their last Bootleg appearance. Not complaining, not at all! Just wondering about other venues along the route. The tour is probably still in the planning stages.
This is good news!

If this is to be the Ramen Adventure Tour, then why are these SK kokeshi dolls each holding up a pair of men's Y-fronts for us to examine? Ramen Adventure

It's going to be important to add the TBA other dates *before* the tour finishes. They've gone with the Southern Strategy, they must be getting advice from TsuShiMaMiRe. They're even scheduling the way TSMMR does. Florida's doing mighty well out of this. I hope a few of those noise, death, gore, grind and doom fanciers can make the time for some cotton candy clouds. 〜〜〜〜〜 I was pretty puzzled about the display of basic white briefs on the poster, till I realized that the three dolls are holding extra-large takeout coffees from a Greek restaurant. The dark roast and anise syrup tour.

The dark roast and anise syrup tour. You could be right. The day after the SK gig in Stowmarket some years ago, I had the dubious pleasure of getting served one of those extra-large super-frothy coffees in a similarly large bowl with a handle. That'll teach me not to waste time drinking froth in an "upmarket" coffee shop.

The 2016 October tour went north from San Diego to Seattle, then east across the northern US to New Jersey. The 2017 May tour will go south from Boston to Miami, then west across the southern US to Los Angeles. Very considerate of them! And starting/stopping each tour in the NE and SW corners just makes sense, for multiple reasons.
Hmmm… I may have to plan another drive to L.A. for the Memorial Day weekend.

I see on the GCR site that they have added Baton Rouge, Galveston, and Fresno shows to the schedule. Edit -- Oops! Saw the added shows on the "Live" tab of the SK site www.shonenknife.net/live.html, not the GCR site.

A lot of people North of about the 36th parallel can say the same. I'm waiting for them to announce Mexico City has been added. Looks like Fresno is their outreach to the SF Bay. They may be the most widely known act Fresno has seen in awhile, not sure. The idea seems to be, stop at venues where we're reasonably sure of a sellout in places that need a refresh, that are near but not necessarily in, a J-pop stronghold. Some stops look like pure prospecting. Hot Springs is an arts town that's pretty young and close enough to Little Rock for major TV and radio coverage. The usual mix of places with big universities. A Japanese restaurant near the Fens for Day One, most astute. It's tiny, though, like 200 people. Even Great Scott is bigger.

You know it makes sense. You owe it to yourself to drive to L.A. and your vehicle would enjoy stretching its legs and getting to see the scenery. You also owe it to all the forum members who can't go, so you gotta go - you'd be doing an entirely selfless act. If you want, you can have full bragging rights and could even indulge in you bragging rights here on the forum. If you were to feel like posting a pic or two, nobody will complain. Then again, you could go to the gig and just smile on our behalf. No pressure.

I was slightly dissappointed by Naoko's Ramen recipe. Apart from it being non-vegetarian. I'd been hoping for something a little more glor-friendly and wouldn't have said no to a pic of Naoko in a pinny cooking up a storm.
Shredded leek! Soup powder! Seems that Naoko isn't giving away the secret family recipe for the soup. I guess a family soup recipe which has been refined over the generations of family members and then handed down from one generation to the next isn't something she'd be too willing to share with the unwashed hordes on the net.
Naoko's recipe did inspire me to cook noodles, and no, not just to peel back the lid of a pot of instant noodles then add boiling water up to the fill mark.

Instant Ramen causes disorientation, hot flashes, and two-headed fish. Kitchen Naoko in gingham (photos at 11:00)Naoko's just taking it easy on the Western barbarians who eat Spaghetti-Os out of can. It if had been Ritsuko, we wouldn't have gotten any mercy. Only swift death by ramen. Vegetarian ramen is a lot of white space on the map. No savor, Japan would be extremely puzzled by it. Maybe I was born to start a vegetarian ramen restaurant chain. It's too bad I don't really know how to cook. Mine would have half of a perfect boiled egg every time, though. Perfect boiled eggs I can do. They'd change Mikey's mind completely.
