She's playing it backwards? I never would have known. At first I thought it was her autograph pen for after the show signings, then she blew into it. That's a cool kazoo moment from Atsuko. What tangerinesun meant is that the bit on top of her kazoo with the red ring around it is where the sound comes from. She is blowing into the right end of her Kazoo, but she needs to have the red ring where the sound comes from much closer to the mic. btw, when I watched that clip, I grabbed my kazoo and hummed along with Atsuko. It is just a shame that I'm not very good at playing mine and couldn't get the same beautiful tone which Atsuko blew from her one. Exactly so. Little Sister has got a really nice kazoo tone and enjoys her instrument. It's just natural talent. Gold from whatever she touches. Her crap mic technique can do nothing to prevent it. If your voice naturally contains a lot of buzzy harmonics, the kazoo is for you. The best idea is to forget what they say about humming, and sing into it with a sharp attack, like dee-dee-dee, doo-doo-doo, daa-daa-daah. If you think about what Japanese female vocals usually sound like, they clearly have a kazoo advantage. But if I did what Atsuko's doing, I'd disappear. Tame Impala show you sort-of how to mic a kazoo A fancy 4-dollar metal one — the Selmer saxophone of kazoos TAME IMPALA - Sundown Syndrome Live2013 APR 20 by TameImpalaMexico (06:30) WE DON'T OWN THE RIGHTS OF THIS VIDEO, MUSIC BY TAME IMPALA, MODULAR RECORDINGSIt's not like a horn with a bell end. More like a dobro without strings. Kevin Parker's got the resonator right in the sensitive zone of his cardioid stage mic, for the win. Sorry to use these guys, truly. Sometime in the last month I saw a great band with dual-lead vocals doing live stage kazoos perfectly… and I can't recall who it was or find the clip in my YT history. They were awesome. So much discipline. Each one turned the vocal mic upside down with the free hand, at the same time and same perfect angle.

At the April 1 show in Osaka, it was Naoko-san who played the kazoo during "All You Can Eat". So I am surprised to see Atsuko-san playing it here!

2017 APR 24 – Boston – HojokoIn addition to the two vids we picked up earlier, sassysb19 got around to posting the first encore, a somewhat punky version of "Daydream Believer". Shonen Knife - Daydream Believer (Hojoko Boston Apr-24-2017)2017 APR 17 by sassysb19 (02:24) Shonen Knife, doing one of their classic covers - the Monkees, Daydream Believer. (Studio version appears on Shonen Knife's 1998 record, Happy Hour.)
It was a free show, launching the Shonen Knife 2017 USA Ramen Adventure Tour. At Hojoko Japanese tavern in Boston's rock and roll hotel, Verb, on Boylston Street near Fenway Park, Boston, on Monday, April 24, 2017.
Shonen Knife personnel: Naoko Yamano (lead vocals, guitar) Atsuko Yamano (bass, vocals) Risa Kawano (drums, vocals)"DDB" was written ca. 1967 by John Stewart. Not that one, the one from The Kingston Trio. He wouldn't approve, I bet. "Riding on the Rocket" followed: youtu.be/S63Jjya3f2MThey were doing those two back to back as a first encore at the beginning of the year in Osaka. "DDB" seems to be a #1 go-to choice. "Jet Shot" came earlier in the evening: youtu.be/FC-zdoXOIlISetlist at setlist.fm is here: www.setlist.fm/setlist/shonen-knife/2017/hojoko-boston-ma-2be60872.html

2017 MAY 06 – Ybor City (Tampa) – The Orpheum Nobody seems to be able to get both the date and the venue's name right at the same time
Shonen Knife 2017.05.06 2017 MAY 07 by Kevin Guthrie (06:49) 2017 USA Ramen Adventure @ The Orpheum (Tampa, FL)
00:00 Buttercup (I'm a Super Girl) 02:18 Cobra vs. Mongoose
Then the encore, judging by shirts:
Shonen Knife 2017.05.06 2017 MAY 07 by Kevin Guthrie (05:39) 2017 USA Ramen Adventure @ The Orpheum (Tampa, FL)
00:00 Daydream Believer (John Stewart, 1967) 02:15 E.S.P.
Same but worse, just because it's there...
Shonen Knife - Daydream Believer (cover) - The Orpheum, Tampa 2017 MAY 07 by Kevin Guthrie (02:14) Shonen Knife covering The Monkees. 2017 Ramen Adventure Tour May 6, 2017 - Ybor City, Tampa
The Monkees were first to accept and record the song, but there have been several covers over the years. Not always a good thing.
