Vegetarian ramen is a lot of white space on the map. No savor, Japan would be extremely puzzled by it. Vegetarian ramen is out there, but as you said it's hiding from us. Or at least it is skulking in the background somewhere. A couple of months back I saw some instant miso soup that was shaking in fear 'cos it was on a high shelf. So I took pity on it and bought a pack of the two varieties that were there. Then I got home and excitement turned to disappointment. I should have read the ingredients list before buing. Both lots had bonito (dried fish) powder in them. That was not the first time I'd mistakenly bought that particular brand of instant miso soup. Idiot!

Yes, miso paste is what I usually start off with and then add random amounts from a selection of things lazing deep inside a kitchen cupboard. Sometimes the soup better than other times, but I don't pay enough attention to what I did to make it that way so I can't repeat it. The lot Naoko inspired me to make used yellow miso paste as the base for the soup. I've also got some red miso paste, some brown miso and some Hatchomiso, the dark brown (almost black) miso. You may have guessed, I like miso and miso soup. The reason I'd been after some vegetarian some instant miso soup was for on days away from home when I'm off to gigs. Just add hot water for a tasty drink that's good for you and if you can get some "fresh" noodles into your cup... ... not pretty, but still yummy. As I'm a Brit, if at all possible it is nice to have some bread and butter with the miso soup.

With less than 2 weeks to go, the TBA dates are pretty minimal, still. They've gone from 21 stops to 28, with one show (Fresno, CA) on Good Charamel's schedule but not at ShonenKnife.net. Fresno matters a lot to me, as it's about a third the distance to LA from my door. After they've played a VFW post in Texas, Shonen Knife is going to feel even more kinship with British heavy metal via Spinal Tap. 5 dates in Texas, 4 in Florida! Naoko's going to come home wearing alligator boots.

I have to go rinse out my ears, but that was great. Here they are making "Jet Shot" sound almost like a rock song, thanks to the magic of Risa K: Shonen Knife - Jet Shot (Hojoko, Boston Apr-24-2017)2017 APR 26 by sassysb19 (03:21) Shonen Knife, at Hojoko Tavern in Boston's rock and roll hotel, Verb, on Boylston Street near Fenway Park, Boston, Monday, April 24, 2017.
Shonen Knife personnel:
Naoko Yamano (lead vocals, guitar) Atsuko Yamano (bass, vocals) Risa Kawano (drums, vocals)
There might be more from this date to come. So far, the YouTube listings for Buffalo and Sellarsville are clickbait for music stream pirates, and are being deleted about as fast as they go up.
