Cool record!!Topshelf settled on emo (Ikkyu) and math rock (everybody) as category tags for tricot. OK, fair. There's no tag for beautiful. This could break them out with a lot of people. It punches pretty hard. They may not be the best band on Earth, but it might be the best album I'll get this year. It's just tricot, now with even more of everything, including vocals and harmony. Something almost Disney about those choral harmonies. Goes back and forth between chilly/dreamy and super-caffeinated wailing. Fat, luscious, busy mixes. Even more time changes. Listening feels like they're making you play DDR with just your ears. Heads up, or get bucked completely off the horse. The drumming is more math-y, more polyrhythmic, faster, less soulful. Boys. "18,19" is the show-stopper, really a cut above IMHO. People who want to call it jazz aren't wrong, it's really a kind of colorless pop jazz. I hear these tunes as plugging back into jazz and modern classical influences on the Western pop of 60–70 years ago. 〜〜〜〜 $8 for the 13 FLACs at Topshelf is a smokin' deal, compared to ¥1500 for AAC files at iTunes, $14 for a bare-bones CD with US shipping, or ¥1620 + major air freight for the ugly packaging at JP Amazon. Amazon in Japan is actually selling US import media for people who want butterfly art but not the entire super-deluxe OTC-only picnic basket. But you have other options. Though they don't make much noise about this there are streams on the usual outlets with the usual ads/subscription deals. 〜〜〜〜 tricot 3 on Spotify Semi-preferable. Embedding works in a desktop OS! At least if you're registered. Follow for pete's sake. Also at Apple, but I Japanized my Apple Music Store and now that's all I see when I'm at the desk. Switching is a PITA. On my US iPhone, they want my subscription to Apple Music so badly, they've buried the iTunes Music Store so I can't clearly see it. The latest release there is Kabuku, misspelled "Kabuki". (?) Same as Pool Side / Pool The tricot of 2015 Pretty pop song suitable for girls' anime Buckle up and keep head & arms inside Kawaii, Philip Glass meets Sonic Hedgehog in Rio Middle part is just an awesome rhythm game 2016 screamo speed-samba, this was big on the euro-tour Fun and sweet, but with that nasty sting in the guitar |

Recent Motifour I-gramshttp://instagr.am/p/BUJbyOAgiwJ Backwards MV making-of http://instagr.am/p/BUOik6jg9nq I got my yang hair cut at POOL.
Yang hair, yan-ke, is a pun on "Yankee". The classic bad-boy haircut is the Japanese version of a mullet. Short sides, longer on top, over the collar in back, maybe by a lot. Maybe with color or a rat-tail, but that's getting sissy. The hair appointment was around a week ago. The whole band went for mutual support. Grooming choices are image choices, image choices are career choices. Also, two of the girls might need encouragement to un-scruff once in a while. So Ikkyu used the opportunity to snipe Motifour with her phone. What are friends for, if you can't get an Instagram story out of them? Waiting, munching, yan-ke mop intact. Are you videoing me?No, because I am already done videoing you, thanks

The time difference makes me crazy because unless they state the local calendar date, you never know who's adjusting for time zones. However, the Hiro-Hiro twitter handle, @romi522 is kind of a hint. 〜〜〜 For the last couple of days, every time they shoot candid phone video, if HH is around the phone is magnetically attracted to her face and ends by crashing into it. Seems like they came from Lyrical Nonsense in the first place. Looking back on her fizzy summer romance, Ikkyu realizes glumly that the other party was never that into it. The reverse flow of time makes sense because the whole song is a re-wind. The stuff about humanity getting wiped out is an apocalyptic view of putting civilization's portable treasures into a scrapbook called Voyager. It feels like Ikkyu's cleaning someone's junk out of the apartment. It's a disaster, but the world goes on spinning. Sempai midnight hangout on Instagram
8:30am my time is 12:30am her time http://instagr.am/p/BUcGpW-gkoD Emotional ArpeggioSempai tagged this with DENIMStshirt after the fun-loving feel-compatible band of boys tricot is friends with. It's their little wumpusses on the pocket of the T. Kida's got a koala personality. Kind of bearish and likes to be left alone, serious, work-oriented, cuddly in spite of it. She held a late-night open practice session on the couch at home, unplugged. Just a-settin' and a-pickin', not a lot of chatter. Except from the audience. No electronics, no amplification. Who wants to plug in all that junk at bedtime? When she started getting sleepy, she announced she was running out of steam, and then when she was done she just said sayonara and switched off. Doesn't like to play around with the listeners like Ikkyu does. She knocked off "POOL", "CGPP", I forget what else. The fans were doing "name that tune" within a couple of chords, which is quite amazing for a tricot song. Then she just played some changes, like working on ideas. It's not great to practice this way, because lousy playing still sounds fine till you plug in. It's just for our benefit, and another thing: the camera is mirror-reversed, which makes it much easier to understand and copy fingering. I don't know if that's for her comfort or ours, but it's cool either way. It's awesome when they hold these sessions, which are always late at night their time on a day that's bad for you. Usually pretty great if you can make one.

HAPĪ·BĀ dear E·QHAPPY BIRTHDAY TO – – – – MEEE!Success hasn't made them any less endearingly goofy. 〜〜〜〜〜 Social media needs 110% commitmentIkkyu was just trying to make a can of booze into an event So… it seems excitable Ikkyu is in the refrigerated beverage aisle receiving a canned cocktail for a birthday toast from the posse. Motifour's meta-video of her videoing herself is what followed. She has to go out to the sidewalk to stop disturbing the peace of a retail business. One commenter called this Ikkyu's Happy Dance. Normal version: | HAPPĪ BĀSUDĒ, 28 SAI | Motifour version: | HAPPĪ BĀTASUTADĒ, 28 CHAI |
Bata-suta is what Ikkyu is demonstrating in the store. Bata-bata: SFX for noisily running around: clatter-clatter, thump-thump-thump Suta-suta: SFX for walking very fast and purposefully: a blend of smooth whooshing and the tramp-tramp-tramp of marching ____ CHAI (tea) instead of SAI (year) is a slang substitution that makes no literal sense. It sounds like baby-talk, the way -san gets converted to -chan for referring to your close friends by name. You do see it a lot in birthday announcements for younger people. ____ The drink is some flavor of TORY'S ⑨, a line of pre-mixed 9% alcohol whiskey cocktails from the Suntory people. Like 2 beers at once, with greatly extended TTT (time to toilet).

English for "Tokyo Vampire Hotel"Not because I wanted to... When I looked for pre-made English for this song, I got that familiar feeling: you do not know wtf you are doing. So, again. Sion Sono brought us Bram Stoker's Dracula x Hong Kong gangster sexploitation x Eyes Wide Shut x the Da Vinci whatever x Blade x every disaster movie. Plus, impudent twenty-somethings. Looks to me like Ikkyu saw this as a chance to treat modern love for a youth brigade worried about its chances in the world it's inheriting. There are haunted house scenics that are hard to interpret without seeing the actual scenes. OMG, now we're vampires, that's terrible!!! Wait… there are benefits… This is remarkably fun and upbeat overall. Only in Japan do you get society's misfits compared to non-combustible trash that city services don't have any good place to put. It's not "wrong" in the sense of reprehensible. Wrong in the sense of something being "off", out of whack, weird or just not right. This could be more graceful because, to the best of my ability, it's what she wrote. That includes words and phrases that repeat. "Let's meet again sometime in a dream" is more how you'd put it in English, but "let's meet in a dream" is a unit you don't want to break up. It's a well-known cliché, the title of a TV variety show at one time, for example.

"18,19" – math not requiredBut ever so helpful "18,19" by tricot2017 MAY 16 by Topshelf Records (04:02) Info: tpshlf.co/2qq4Z1LPurchase: smarturl.it/tsr168 From the album "3," by tricot — available May 17, 2017 on cassette, vinyl, CD, and digitally through Topshelf Records (in the US).〜〜〜〜〜 In a comment, theMOANKAYproject points out: It blows my mind how they can write such intricate songs without pretension, and this song is an amazing example of that!
I'm guessing that this song is called "18,19" because each verse is written in [ the following time signatures ] 9/8 + 9/8 (=> 18), 10/8 + 9/8 (=> 19) Mind = blown!
Also during the chorus, I see that they actually invert the rhythm... 10/8 + 10/8, 9/8 + 10/8.
Crazy!〜〜〜〜〜 And if I had to guess, they're doing this under Yusuke's considerable influence, because he's a power rhythm nerd if there ever was one. I messed around with the comment trying to make it a little more clear. To me, this is hard as hell to count. My brains melt after seven, and they are not making it easy by sticking to the metronome clicks. But you can count it if you assume the instrument parts consist of sixteenth notes, and then go, "one-and-two-and-three-and-four-and-five-and-six-and-seven-and-eight-and-nine" And you can sense it anyway, because of the woozy lagging feel that the 10-beat measure creates in each song verse. Such an over-specified pop song. It's like they have a psychic Skype ID for Frank Zappa.
