Ambition of IkkyuMore importantly, Ikkyu recently became her own thing, as well as
her tricot thing. Tricot is not enough, now there's Ikkyu Nakajima.
Slick Impressum blog of her alter-ego side project:
ikkyunakajima.comFor now, the whole business is about the release this month of
"sweet sweat sweets" in a music video.
The original unveiling was a 60-minute supercut of Ikkyu wandering all
around town, singing alone on the streets at night in her underwear.
Streamed July 09 from the Bakuretsu Ustream channel. If you missed it,
there's no online archive but there are numerous still frames.

so also expect more stuff like this 04:33 MV edit.

Ikkyu's Bad Relationship song.
This is a straight, hair-puller of a rock ballad. Really straight, totally
math-free. Tricot should never do this. There are synth violins.
It's a sleeper blockbuster. After I'd heard it 10X, it was starting to sink in that
this is a lot like the best Beatles songs.
Super-grim, distraught Ikkyu stumbles about the early-morning streets alone
like Lady MacBeth in her, what, boudoir clubwear and fashionable drunker's
cheek rouge, that looks like dark eye circles this time, completely the woman
abandoned downtown after a fight on a big evening out.
She found out in Europe with tricot that you can walk for blocks, singing to
a dollying camera, and most normal people keep as far as possible from you.
She gets some strange looks and at a couple of points I think she wants to
laugh. The expression is: I am such an idiot for acting like a demented
person in a music video, crossing a city street with the walk light at 1am.
It's not a bad job of acting at all.
And she does really get this way sometimes. Geez Ikkyu, you are going to
catch pneumonia. There's a cab right there, please, take this and go home.
KARAOKE VERSIONIkkyu doesn't sing this quite as written. Or her pronunciation is very non-standard.
She rounds up her vowels, like people who say "rother" for "rather". And she
choses readings the dictionary doesn't know about. I'm nervous. I did try.

Nagusame au no mo kondo ni suru? | It's early I'm singing about love I understand, I guess there's no help for it Because it's okay to be vague because it's nice to be ordinary
As long as you live in luxury, the afterlife will be great After all, being a bigshot it's fine you can still keep on with it Therefore I'm not bothering about it it's your own business
It's all arranged I won't crumble
It's early I'm singing what's true I'd forgotten I can't stand it Because it's okay to be vague I remember
For one thing, I'm sick of the life of luxury After all, being a bigshot wore out right away And so I'm not bothering about it It's not so simple I guess
Because it's cozy This heavenly hell
Look If there's no afterlife let's become zombies As a couple, wet, melted together snuggling, groveling Rigid as now unchanging
Reborn after all Not reborn in the end As a couple, what should we do — die out maybe?
BABY
Look It's early I'm singing about my circumstances I understand, I guess I'd forgotten Because it's okay to be vague because it's nice to be ordinary
Let's not be parted my circumstances I wonder, am I realizing I've not forgotten
Will we comfort each other again this time? |
Well, that was intense. I wasn't going to translate this, I just wanted
to figure out what it says. And I found out that it's beyond me, the
lyrics are more like poetry than a pop song. The tune was made to
fit the words. I can feel stuff flying by over my head.
There's a metric ton of metaphor about dying and being reborn,
complete with explicit references to heaven and hell. Kind of jejune
but love is like that.
She's also doing this modernist thing of repeating entire phrases like
magnetic refrigerator poetry, but when its next-door neighbors change,
the import of the repeated phrase changes too. So it builds because its
repeating, and at the same time it changes because it's repeating.
I think the lyrics might be too good for me to be able to tell how good
they are, but I do know a hook when I hear one.
Shimete (湿って) is being moist or dampened, but in people it also means
depressed, in low spirits. That's the grossest image of an enmeshed couple
I ever need to have.
Around 03:20 there's a nice bicycle standing on the street tied up
to a rubber band and it's not even stripped.
