(Stuff about music) and... Since the buckets don't grow, but the content grows and changes forever... Hmm, being tidy with threads can be difficult with cats around and we all know that the internet is made of cats, so there's a myriad ways of misplacing and losing things. Perhaps the bucket labelled "AsiaPac Pop/Rock" like Tan mentioned, or something similar might be handy. Or perhaps not. The band Final Attack were pretty good and even mostly sang in the International Language Of Rock, EnglishThose other two bands that Tan mentioned were, for me a bit too, "American College kid joins a band to try and get a girlfriend" for my liking. Sorry. Now where should a bit of Korean Doo Wop music get posted? It's a new find, so... Here's a pic of them that could easily go in the Automobile thread... The Barberettes and a cool carAnd here's a Random Video of them... The Barberettes / 바버렛츠 www.facebook.com/TheBarberettesKoreaIt's just kinda nice to trip over them somewhere.

They sound just great, on their way to a million and a quarter plays. It's extremely strange for me to hear that tune snipped from its roots in the Peppermint Lounge and made academic. Check out Candy Eyeslugger for more acapella pop! Citation =/= endorsement. I like Riflekid OK, but Klassic Kollege Rock in general not nearly as much as King Ly Chee does. You know — Fear over Fountains of Wayne. I'm just saying, look at the heights of technical ability these guys have attained! If you like Final Attack, have I got some Okinawan thrash bands for you!

Awesome! There's a lot that's missing for me when they do the Andrews Sisters, but... know this one? I've never seen them do Grand Ole Opry before! Somebody's always off-key with Crying Nut, it makes me a little crazy. The Barberettes without Kim little the same as the Supremes without Diana Ross.

The Barberettes without Kim little the same as the Supremes without Diana Ross. It's a shame she had to leave, that sparkling smile and sparkling sound are hard to replace. The proof is right here: The Barbarettes – "Barbarettes" "Barbara Ann" cover • 2015 Soundholic Festival, Seoul KR youtu.be/RG-xYsd9HX0 To be fair, "Barberettes" is the tune they like to open with, and it's difficult! So Hee was also singing flat at the beginning. Nobody sounds exactly terrific in that clip from Melbourne, separately or together. But the new girl is straining. They might improve with work. The other song from that show is easier to do, they had a chance to make adjustments, and it sounds a bit better. The Barberettes / 바버렛츠 - Jingle Bells | Night Market, Melbourne 20152015 December 10 by wilari The Barberettes / 바버렛츠 performing Jingle Bells (English/Korean) Mapping Melbourne Festival, Melbourne December 2015 - Queen Victoria Market.LOL Shinae An's awesome Southern California accent. I'm used to them sounding vaguely British, even when they're imitating Ronnie Spector. Here, it's: — R U GAIEZ KER- REE-AAN? — YAA, SHERRR!! Also, there's this! 바버렛츠 - 자정이 휠씬 넘었네 [콘서트7080 538회 2016. 01. 09.]2016 January 09 by KwiYeol Park "Way Beyond Midnight" again. It's a darker sound, but kinda nice!

How you fix up a just good enough tune with too-smart lyrics is, you make 'em feel it.

This is great for understanding what each girl does in the group. I love when they gather around one microphone.

Yeh, difficult song especially when you have to deliberately sing flat, but a great version I thought. And they're much nicer to look at than The Beach Boys were/are. Yeh, difficult song especially when you have to deliberately sing flat, but a great version I thought. And they're much nicer to look at than The Beach Boys were/are. BTW, surely you can't mention doo-wop without including this song... Yeah... actually, you can't call "Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy" doo-wop. It's from a very different time and place. I know why the Barberettes like it, and feel they need to tackle it, and why it's a crowd pleaser at home and away, and all that. But this number shows up all their understandable limitations of language and culture. It's not sharp or brassy enough. This is WWII boogie-woogie from the U. S. of A. You need to have not only the chops but the right kind of naiveté and sass... OK, vulgarity. It's kind of an habitually overconfident knucklehead's jumpin' jive tune. And in my incomplete experience, the only artist ever do a meet-or-exceed with it is... seriously, Bette Midler. There are 80-year-olds that'd beat me to death with a cane for saying so. I'm related to some of them. Waiting for the ambulance, I'll search YouTube for this: youtu.be/lTOzR1sSfFsBoogie Woogie Bugle Boy Burt Bacharach Special - Bette Midler- 19702015 June 15 by Don Bradshaw (03:06) It's complete multitrack studio production flim-flam, of course. It's not the same as the Andrews Sisters. What good would that be? But Midler was just born to do the song, and she kills it. Your mileage may vary. Not too sure of the YouTube poster's facts. Bette speaks as if the song's surprise radio success is well behind her, but it wasn't recorded until 1971. Without Divine Miss M the album and its first radio hit single, I can't tell what she'd be doing in a big-budget TV segment...

Yeh, as soon as I typed that doo-wop line rather than boogie-woogie, I realised how lazy that was, and hoped I wouldn't get pulled on it. But I didn't change it. Sure, the lyrics aren't really right for them, but the tune is and I'm sure that though many of their Korean audience know the song/tune they may not understand/care about the words. A bit like suddenly finding out that the Spitz song "Cherry" is a love song. Ho-hum.
