There are a few really good Japanese bands I'd like to share, so right now I'll introduce you all to MELT-BANANA. Melt-Banana is an experimental noisy punk band from Tokyo. Their songs are (usually) very short, but very fast and exciting, with distorted guitars, hypnotic bass, banging drums and yelling high-pitched vocals from lead singer Yasuko. The lyrics are strange, random experiments of the English language. It may not be your bag, but give it a try. It'll surprise you, and you might like it. At my first listen, I was like "This is weird and crazy." Second listen - "It's weird, but I like it." Third listen - "This is pretty cool." Fourth listen - "I love it." Fifth listen - "I really love it." Sixth listen - "I can't stop listening to it." Seventh listen - "I love Melt-Banana." www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKDihYBMvHQThis other song is a bit slower (but still fast) and longer than most Melt-Banana songs. Don't let the terrible intro make you stop the video. The song gets a lot better after the first minute, trust me. Try it if even if you didn't like the first one, it's different. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pm573B57gY

Yeah, Melt Banana, excellent experimental/noize band and with a damn cute bass player. They're wicked live and I desperately want to see them again. Here's a clip showing the charms of the bass player and of the singer and, possibly for some, an easier intro to MB as it's a cover of Monkey Man. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dy9Vk61OWHgAnother goodie is this somewhat older but good fun video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAdC2GtvgRA

Melt Banana is great! I like crazy stuff like Melt Banana, it is great mix of punk/noise/whatever. I saw them live two years ago in rock festival in Finland, that was one of the best gigs i've ever seen. They can play pretty fast.

So far I've only checked out the 1rst video... the song was ok... maybe understood a handful of the words, but, I really LOVED the animation part, very entertaining

Melt Banana are booked to be doing one gig in the UK this year. They're playing at The Nightmare Before Christmas (hosted by Shellac), a 3 day weekend November 30 - December 2 at a Pontins holiday camp. It's another of the All Tomorrows Parties events. But as it's at a holiday camp all tickets are accompanied by a chalet -starting at something like £500 and going up to ridiculous. Tickets sold out very quickly, but a few more have just been added. 4 Berth Self Catering £756. Ouch! So I'm hoping that as they'll already be over here, a few more dates will be booked for them to play somewhere that I can afford to go to. Maybe as part of a European tour for this year? Attachments:

Their new album is also out this month. Perhaps why they are touring the US. But I'm gutted by the lack of UK dates so far. Perhaps we'll get them soonish. It seems that they are touring as a two-piece band this time. In their Melt Banana "Lite" line-up. Their awesome super-sexy bass player has left and the band has always seemed to have a rather flexible approach where drummers are concerned. Sometimes using "tour" drummers. Attachments:

Melt Banana gig in the UK! No idea if they'll be doing any more dates yet, but I hope and expect so. Wed 28th May at Heaven in London.Tickets are available from Ents24The timing of their gig (hopefully a tour) made me smile. They're playing in the UK roughly a couple of weeks after Shonen Knife finish their tour of the UK. Exactly like what happened last time I saw MB and it will also be almost exactly 4 years since the last time I saw them. They'll be touring to promote their latest album, "Fetch" which came out last year. America's had their tour, now we get ours in the UK. "Fetch" is a great album, and a great "beginners" album, almost easy listening. For Melt Banana, that is. I still can't believe it. getting to see Shonen Knife and then Melt Banana in the same month!!! I've booked my ticket.

I found that date in Germany that I mentioned previously. It was hiding amongst all of the tabs that I'd left open. Whoops.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll have fun. One of my mates is moaning that he's only got an e-ticket to go and see them, whereas I've got myself a printed ticket. I'm toying with the idea of squeezing in one more Melt Banana show. Probably Bristol at The Fleece if I've got any money left. MxBx rocks me
