I straight have just put this here to make your blood boil a little. It's better than a cup of coffee if you're feeling kind of meh. Whatever Happened to Shonen Knife?2006 OCY 20 by bloggit for Bloggit's Journal at LiveJournal bloggit.livejournal.com/21520.html Any how, the point is, that ["terrible cover of the Carpenters"], which I unfortunately own, is far and away the most popular Shonen Knife song in the iTunes Store. In other words, despite being an influence on some alternative bands, at least according to Wikipedia, they aren't really relevant... A logician! Look at him go! Blogger notes posting this while crocked on Viking Fjord vodka mixed with: vanilla brandy, coffee liqueur and chocolate liqueur. All at once? That's mocha-flavored paint-remover. 〜〜〜 On the upside, there's a valid link to the SK article at English Wikipedia. No pinhead so pointy that it can't do a little good by accident. I kind of miss egotistical spouting on blogs. Twitter doesn't give you enough scope to develop much momentum at all. Obviously his musical judgment was clouded by a previous dislike of the band, so no matter what SK he would listen to he already had a preconceived notion that SK music is no good. Shame on him! Flog him! Pour that man another drink and let him be happy in his misery! To each their own. The guitar player from the Hash Band that I play with who introduced me to SK via "On Top Of The World" says basically the same thing, in fact just tonight at rehearsal he said "Rock Animals" is a horrible album. Excuse me!!?? That is one of their BEST albums IMHO...

Excuse me!!?? That is one of their BEST albums IMHO... When anybody starts in with "I like / I don't like", I have to know *why*. Sometimes the honest answer to that question will show that whatever-it-is never even got a chance. When Rock Animals came along, some people who liked ultra-eccentric amateurish SK lost interest because the band didn't fit in its pigeonhole anymore, and the pigeonhole was more important to them than anything they heard. I used to think that SK was a fun idea, but that the band was "just okay". I had to see them play in person before I could come up with an idea of what they were actually about. I made them uninteresting for years and years by thinking uninterested thoughts about them. D'oh—! Stupid thoughts! What are they doing in my head? [facepalm]

Ah yes, that guy sure knows how to make a cynic smile. Him starting off by saying that thanks to a carefully selected combination of alcoholic drinks made by a discerning expert, he's rapidly heading towards that state where dribbling on his matted chest-hair is deemed a heroic act that only real men can do. He's also telling us that his sense of judgement is severely impaired while he's spouting his wisdom from above. That sort of egotistical spouting is always good for a giggle. Video blogs are where people tend to do that sort of ranting. A particularly fun type of v-blog is one with some genius performing a sentence-by-sentence "critique" of another person's v-blog which means they can spend abut half an hour ripping to pieces someone else's ten minute long v-blog. I've been known to lose hours having those those sort of v-blogs chattering to themselves. I don't remember seeing any going on about SK, but they’re bound to be out there. My memory being so patchy, I could have watched one only yesterday and have forgotten about it. Rather that all egotistical spouting getting trusted to v-blogs, perhaps some of it has just had to slide over to safe havens like forums. 'Cos as you said tangerinesun , Twitter is no good for making profound announcements. You've barely had the chance to draw your first breath to start spouting your godly knowledge and you have run out of characters. So if I were to get all mischievous and use Bloggit's trusty logic, I'd do a search on YouTube and see which are the most watched Ramones videos. Hmm it looks like the top three are... Ramones - Spider-Man 11,660,062 views Ramones - Poison Heart 10,563,371 views Ramones - Baby I Love You 9,327,759 views So two of the top three most watched Ramones videos is them doing cover versions of 60s songs and one rather poor song of their own. So despite all the credit they're given in Wiki etc for helping to forge the early punk sound, in reality they were just a 60s cover band. Yay for fuzzy logic! It twists so nicely in the slightest breeze. Egotistical spout over - for now.

This is what Lazybone and I did at the Bootleg in October - Ats and Risa got in the back of the line to use the restrooms (both unisex if that matters) and the show was about to start. It was a fairly long line. Lazy shouts out "Band members first, clear a path!" or something like that and they were pretty much rushed to the front of the line. Their attitudes were like "We are just regular people, we will wait in line to use the restrooms just like everyone else. And that right there is what makes the Knife the Knife; their humbleness, meekness, not expecting any special preferential treatment, not demanding and very approachable. And then they put on a great show all freshly relieved! Shonen Knights You could have just turned around and hit them up for autographs. They can't very well run away. Having a Sharpie on you when you go to the john is for more than just improvised poetry. Um, kidding. Mick Jagger travels with a private restroom carried in by staff and connected by a locally licensed plumber. Few know this.

New to this forum. Saw this thread and was excited. I assumed it was quotes FROM Shonen Knife members!!! Devastated!!! It's such a joy listening to these ladies talk (wish interviewers would include other Knife members more, not just Naoko-sama) BTW, I have a feeling that Broccoli Man and Lazybone may have been the ones standing behind me waiting to get into the Bootleg back in May. Definite fanboys!! Naoko did say once that she wanted many handsome groupie boys.

There's an interview thread, carefully hidden, you might like. shonenknife.proboards.com/thread/617/shonen-knife-interviews-threadThe older the interview, the better it went. True across the board, at least for the ones in English. I think Shonen Knife probably has to own that fact for themselves. They grew up. Then they stopped freely chatting with interviewers and started covering the same bullet points, over and over and over. I understand why they would, but I like it a lot better when they're completely unprofessional about every single thing.
