I guess when asked about who's been influenced by SK, she forgot about No Cars, Brinky, half the all-girl J-rock bands in existence and of course, her own bassist Ritsuko's first band, Keihan Girl

That writer is the untalented one, what a word salad of half-baked thoughts! The world according to that reviewer? I guess Shonen Knife should have stuck to making cameras and TVs. Whew, thankfully Ramones music doesn't get used for Wrigles adverts...

That writer is the untalented one, what a word salad of half-baked thoughts! Yeah... I knew that would spike the pulse of any Knife fan who still has one. Look on it a reminder of just how wrong you can be. The author of the blurb is the flabbergastingly narrow-minded and belligerent autocrat Robert Christgau, who would have done it for the regular column he had in the Village Voice in those years. After a time, Gentleman Bob declared himself Dean of American Rock Critics — a poor lot on this showing. Lou Reed described him in other terms: " A Consumer's Guide to Rock, what a moron! A 'study' by, y'know—Robert Christgau. NICE LITTLE BOXES: B-PLUS. Can you imagine working for a f***ing year, and you get a B+ from some a**hole in the Village Voice?" If RC had really loved SK I would had to check myself, but as things stand I feel pretty solid. EDIT: Pretty sure that if you gave the Ramones diet cola in their prime, they would have peed in it and given it back to you.

Endless Soul 11 months ago They're still looking good and rockin after all these years. They really ARE made of awesome! haitipi 8 months ago Well, they are cuter than the Ramones. Jeff Gutierrez Gawd I love this group, no matter how many members have passed through the doors. They're what fun, innocent, good-time Rock n' Roll is all about. www.libel.co.nz/blog_posts/7439-shonen_knife_with_photos

Civilians try to find consensus in a thread from the Electrical Audio user forum. EA is a Chicago recording studio owned by Steve Albini, so you've got a clue already! Keywords: charming, fun, funny, great time, harmless, lighthearted, lollipops, oddball, really good, shit, silly, weird, waste, worst. My all-time favorite is "Ivan Dobsky" who hates Shonen Knife because he's mad at Nirvana for not caring enough to please him. Also, not being harsh, violent or negative enough. You go Ivan, I bet Steve would agree that Butch Vig turned your band into spoiled showbiz wussies. The discouraging thing I see over and over again is: somewhat well-intentioned people simply unable to get past the idea that SK is strange, laughable, or a joke altogether. They must be unbelievably full of wisdom and experience to have so little room left in their heads.

This is why we only let fans in here ps. I like the idea of seeing what other forums are saying about our girls... at least the "not crap" won the poll, by a fairly good margin!

I think "not crap" is as much as can be hoped for from people who don't understand about SK. How is it that only fans get entry? All you need is an email address. You can be a bot, you can be a Nazi, you can be Steve Albini. Not that I'm against admitting the unwashed, far from it. But if you don't want them trashing up the place, then some pretty stern moderation has to take place. Since the biggest obstacle to a good time with Shonen Knife is that discomfort surrounding IT'S NOT WHAT I AM USED TO, it's a major service to Knifedom in general to expose the lay public to them, a lot.

A spot of random browsing brought up someone's fantasy compilation album of Christmas songs and SK turn up. Kinda apt as Christmas is coming early for US Knife fans. kittysneezes.com/2010/12/23

Keith19746 months ago When Shonen Knife played Baltimore last year, I got to meet Naoko----she was standing in line behind me for the clubs single unisex bathroom. This was about 15 minutes before the show was supposed to start, so I shouted out to the 7 people ahead of me, "HEY, LET HER GO FIRST, SHE HAS TO PLAY THE SHOW!" Everyone immediately agreed, and Ms. Naoko thanked everyone after she came back out. I'm honored to have helped such a rock legend skip the bathroom line.

There's a lot of empty arid territory there. Shonen Knife can help. I don't really want Thurston hanging out with Nancy unless he's really learned his lesson, though.

I straight have just put this here to make your blood boil a little. It's better than a cup of coffee if you're feeling kind of meh. Whatever Happened to Shonen Knife?2006 OCY 20 by bloggit for Bloggit's Journal at LiveJournal bloggit.livejournal.com/21520.html Any how, the point is, that ["terrible cover of the Carpenters"], which I unfortunately own, is far and away the most popular Shonen Knife song in the iTunes Store. In other words, despite being an influence on some alternative bands, at least according to Wikipedia, they aren't really relevant... A logician! Look at him go! Blogger notes posting this while crocked on Viking Fjord vodka mixed with: vanilla brandy, coffee liqueur and chocolate liqueur. All at once? That's mocha-flavored paint-remover. 〜〜〜 On the upside, there's a valid link to the SK article at English Wikipedia. No pinhead so pointy that it can't do a little good by accident. I kind of miss egotistical spouting on blogs. Twitter doesn't give you enough scope to develop much momentum at all.

People are disappointed when their idols act like skittish wildlife, but look — you can't go to a public restroom without somebody logging your trip and taking credit for it on the internet. I had to close my jaw by hand after I read this proud exploit. There's actually something the matter with us... isn't there?

This is what Lazybone and I did at the Bootleg in October - Ats and Risa got in the back of the line to use the restrooms (both unisex if that matters) and the show was about to start. It was a fairly long line. Lazy shouts out "Band members first, clear a path!" or something like that and they were pretty much rushed to the front of the line. Their attitudes were like "We are just regular people, we will wait in line to use the restrooms just like everyone else. And that right there is what makes the Knife the Knife; their humbleness, meekness, not expecting any special preferential treatment, not demanding and very approachable. And then they put on a great show all freshly relieved!
