From an interview with J-Pop World back in October 2008. What does playing music mean to you?
Ritsuko: I can't realize. Playing music is an exciting thing like eating a giant cake during my whole life. I guess that'd be rock and roll cake.

There's one Naoko quote that has stuck in my mind for ages. It was something that she put in her blog about an incident that happened at a gig when she was touring the US a few years ago. Unfortunately I can't now find where it was, but I remember the quote as: "Someone touched my shoe tonight when I was playing. But I'm OK." Hmm, it read much better when Naoko typed it. Honest.

If you want to make it better, replace "shoe" with "butt"

"Naoko: In the 1990s when I was touring, our tour bus broke down in the middle of the freeway in Florida. So we called for highway service and we arrived very late to the venue. The show was supposed to start around 11, but we arrived after 12. Only two fans stayed, but we still set up and played for them." That's awesome...gotta love 'm

koffeebeenz This reminds me of a Peter Gabriel video...very 80's MTV...I like it...really cool !
F***Punkers 1 month ago this is a million times more punk rock than any mediocre crust "oi" band out there
zerosonico 2 weeks ago I was trying to explain Shonen Knife to someone and said "It's like Ramones, but mom-styled". I've never explained something so accurately.
Ingrid Lorena 1 week ago Maaaan... I came here because of Nirvana interview, in which Kurt says Shonen Knife is the best band in the world. And then, I mean... If KURT said that... Then I had to listen to it. Haha
mark granger 6 months ago Watching this band live is nothing short of Joyous.
pennypay1 7 months ago So cute! And full of innocence and happiness, things we need more of in this world.
Dave Sheehan 4 weeks ago These ladies rock so hard! STILL the essence of punk
Christian Reject 2 months ago Seriously, the "Super Group" record is in my top 5 pop punk albums of all time... Right up there with Screeching Weasel's "My Brain Hurts" and the Queer's "Love Songs For The Retarded". So good.

Extract from a telephone interview with Shonen Knife from February 13, 1997 taken from babysue.com www.babysue.com/ShonenKnife.htmlA question Michie was asked: You wrote the song "Fruits and Vegetables." What is that song about?
One day I was very...I don't know...I was depressed and sad and it was midnight probably. I started to eat fruit and vegetables from the fridge...and eating them I felt I am getting better. And I read that fruit and vegetables...those fresh stuff...have a power to make us happy. It's a very direct song, I think. And I wanted the listener to get happier from listening to "Fruits and Vegetables" instead of eating them...

You may have seen this interview shosenningen.com/soon-in-germany-but-already-here-shonen-knife-interview/. My fave bits are these: Q) Naoko, looking back on 30 years of band history, what was your most memorable moment?
A) Naoko: Most memorable great moment will happen in the future!
Q) After being successful for so many years, are there any goals left you want to achieve with Shonen Knife?
A) Naoko: There is no goal for ROCK band.
Q) Last and most important question: what’s so great about Banana chips?
A) Naoko: It’s different from other sweets. It’s made by fruit. And by Naoko with her laser-beam eyes! As seen at 2.10 in this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H8J_A13AMw

Despite the usual Nirvana question, a pretty good interview!

Here's something a mate sent me about his first listen to "Burning Farm" & "Pretty Little Baka Guy"... Love both of them and they must be the older LP's as at first I thought I was listening to a demo version or something.

In a way, they were, they represent SK as a band that wasn't really gelled at the time.
