That's a cute picture! I'm looking at it going, the moving hair is a blur but the moving drumstick is a fan, like with a strobe. I'm sure there's a rational explanation. Somewhere at lower left behind a floor wedge, I have my chin on the stage near Atsuko's right foot!

Getting Genki Shock! together in 2004Once upon a time, if you wanted to have a civilized conversation on the internet, you almost had to set up your own electronic bulletin board service to do it. So, for a while Shonen Knife ran its own BBS at shonenknife.net. Things were a lot homier in those days. Naoko used to file diary entries, in addition to illustrated luncheon menus. "Representative" is daihyou, meaning not only typical, but actually a *worthy* representation — something exemplary. From Naoko New songs. 2004/09/21 (Tue) shonenknife.net/blog/archives/4905 There are people posting to the BBS, wondering what's a representative Knife song. I wonder too. Since each listener has their own tastes, I'd be pleased if you would consider your favorite songs representative.
Right now I'm writing songs for the new album. Sometime in the future at least, I want it to be said that these are representative songs. What a thing to be thinking.
A lot of stuff has gotten finished. Even though it was the day before a tennis game, last night I was working away at composing until 3am. (I don't mean that was to blame for my double-faults. Ha-ha-ha.)
Anyway, lately I haven't been doing so well at tennis. I don't have the talent. It would have been good if I'd switched to judo. That would be a better fit for me. Ho-ho-ho. (After this, I have no motivation. Boo-hoo-hoo.)〜〜〜〜〜 A couple of days later, she was in the recording studio complaining about her game and not liking rainy weather. She and Atsuko started tracking with songs about blue jeans and sleeping with an amulet under your pillow. Guest vocs Dean and Britta / LUNAThis was going to turn into GENKI SHOCK! and even though the songs are so varied, at least half are classics of the period. She was consciously trying to do hard rock, referring to Rainbow, Black Sabbath and KISS by name, but Etsuko was scheduled to come in to help keep the sludge from settling. Atsuko's cookie, Atsushi's bass (?)When they were already a week into recording, she was still noodling over unfinished lyrics. Personalized paper cupsThe studio takeout lunches were delicious!

Cut out of a Shonen Knife portrait nabbed from Australian traveler and blogger Dean Shaw. It's pretty definitely not Shaw's image, he appropriated it from somewhere unknown for a blog entry about at 2011 show at the Tractor Tavern. This isn't the Tractor, best guess is Livehouse Fandango's old Fandango 13 near the Juso station on the outskirts of Osaka's Umeda district. Who posed the band and took the shot, and what for. are not so easily discovered but it had to be the 2010–11 timeframe. The much larger photo everyone seems to have raided is here: Shonen Knife: The most adorable punk pop band in the world!2011 November 09 by Deano for the Deano In America blog deanoinamerica.wordpress.com/2011/11/09/shonen-knife-the-most-adorable-punk-pop-band-in-the-world/ Where possible, you don't want to imitate Deano by posting without attribution, because that lack of courtesy begins to step on people's legitimate copyright expectations...
