[glow=red,2,300]This is a thread where you can talk about/discuss your feelings and comments (Anything you like, really, anything OFF THE TOP OF YOUR HEAD!) about our fearless leader Naoko Yamano; later I intend to put up a thread like this of all the girls*. So, talk about Naoko!!![/glow] *The Mana "tribute" page will be where you can talk about her, if you like; I won't add a seperate "Talk about Mana" page, as it's really the SAME idea! Once again, let me begin:Naoko is amazing, how many women can honestly say that they look better at 50 than they did at 30?? (Well, she deffinately CAN!)

Naoko is Shonen Knife.Without her joy of playing I think the group would have disbanded years ago. Whatever it is that drives her, playing music, singing, the fans, recording,I hope it stays with her. I've seen so many groups split over the years,I often wonder what keeps certain bands together and others break up so quickly. Naoko appears to be humble enough to compromise when needed, which comes in handy when you're in a rock n roll group. She looks fantastic for her age.I've read where her weight has yo yod up and down over the years. But why would'nt it when you're always singing about food.Just look at the photo of her and Atsuko with their eyes bugging out looking at that food on the Heavy Songs cd. I would love to read a bio of her.

I wonder what her husband and her daughter think of all her travelling though! (hmmm)

Next week she will be 50. I still don't believe it! She is 8 months older than I am, but, looks at least 10 years younger! haha I still read a lot of BS (on You Tube, for instance) about how Naoko can't play the guitar.... that might have been true in the early 80s when she was litterally "learning on the job"; but, it certainly is NOT the case NOW! (One good listen to her work on "Free Time" will prove me correct!)

Sometimes i have to laugh at how Naoko uses the same line at EVERY concert she does, here in North America: "I am happy to be here in _________ , ROCK CITY!" Naoko, i love ya but, try to come up with something new haha

Naoko and Atsushi have Shonen Knife Burning Farm records & Tomato Head as a Buisness. Naoko is a good smart Buisness woman and I think alot of fans dont give her the credit thats due. She has been doing this for 30 years now and to think this is a group of 3 musicians doing this for fun is really short sighted.

There's no doubt that Naoko is a true professional now, mind you, when the Knife began, it was a "hobby" band... I think that's why Michie left, being a professional muscian was Naoko's dream, but not hers.

I was thinking about how Naoko considered the split with Virgin Records as a blessing rather than a curse; the way she put it was that being an independant band, on an independant label, worked better for her, than one on a contract. As it turns out, I believe she hit the nail on the head! Had SK stayed with Virgin, you know that there's no way that they would have close to 20 albums out,in 30 yrs: Bands who make it with big labels make rediculous amounts of money, but, with a few notable exeptions, few make it past 1 or 2 albums; and a career of maybe 5 years max. on the other hand, while Naoko and SK will never fill Yankee Stadium with 50,000 fans, they know that they will always have that core of fans who will keep buying SK albums as long as they make them!

I love how they aren't on a major label! If they were really big, we wouldn't be able to see them in an intimate setting and get pictures and autographs!
