[glow=red,2,300]PUFFY[/glow]; AKA PUFFY AMI YUMI (Doing a parody of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "bed in" stunt) Forgetting their awful American cartoon show (Hi Hi! Puffy Ami Yumi); Puffy has been one of the most successful Japanese acts internationally, and, it's time we give the girls their due! Most of us know their later hard-j-pop sound, but, before 2000, they were a pair of "Idol singers"; so, let's start out with a look at Puffy, Idol singers: www.youtube.com/watch?v=54iQdQzhdNIOf course, the difference between Puffy and most idol singers is that Puffy actually HAVE talent*, giving them the longevity most idol bands can only wish for, case in point, this wonderful performance from 1999: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXjRtlqFHrM*of course the fact that they are both drop dead gorgeous probably doesn't hurt either! Of course, they are still one of the most popular Japanese import bands around.....even if their cartoon DID suck! haha www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNSr7644amE&feature=related

I never saw their cartoon...
I have heard a bunch of their songs, and they've been known to do a live cover of Green Day's "Basket Case", which is pretty good.

I never saw their cartoon.... Yeah, well, you aren't missing much there, haha! (Unfortunately, the girls sounded like American Valley Girls and the "manager" character was a totally racist Japanese caracature, straight out of WW2 propaganda!)

Did they do their own voices? I'm assuming they did, but why the accent I wonder?

Nope, all they did on the show was some pre-recorded "bumper" segments and some music videos, the cartoon characters were voiced by a couple of American actresses (Probably because neither Ami or Yumi is very proficient in English)

That would have been preferable in my opinion, but, chances are someone would have complained about it; so Cartoon Network took the easy way out.

Ah, good...well, I did 'acquire' Puffy's Hit & Fun best-of. "Umi E To" and "Tokyo I'm On My Way" are good songs. So is "(unpronounceable long Japanese title)".

As far as Puffy albums go, I have "NICE", the cover of which is at the top of this thread and the companion CD to the TV show, "HIHI PUFFY AMIYUMI"
