May 9th Athens, GA @40 WATTwww.shonenknife.net/blog/archives/24073iPhone still bricked, but it's a nice day. Just traversing the empty parking lot of the deserted mall
is exercise. Red bean pastry and sponge cake from H Mart. The 40 Watt is big. Huh? A cat car,
the cat circus is in town. The photo-booth featured. Audience sing-a-long, good times.
Thanks, ARC!

May 10, The Earl, Atlanta GAwww.shonenknife.net/blog/archives/24096Breakfast: treats from H Mart yesterday. Interviews with local radio and by email, then time to go!
Finally! Boiled peanuts, they are like soy beans but salty/spicy. Salmon BLT is a thing. Drumhead art
is improving because they draw so much. Big house, happy customers, great show.

Sound Guy Reunions: 2011 Rob (unrecognized in long hair), Taylor from the 2 tours just previous
(hair impossible to miss), current Sound Guy Kenny's kid sister Emi. Naoko really likes Atlanta Rock City.

May 11, Syndicate Lounge, Birmingham ALwww.shonenknife.net/blog/archives/24176Driving through 1 time zone. Breakfast at IHOP for lunch. Castle architecture. The loading door is up a
long flight of stairs. Kenny? Jake? Rock decor includes Nirvana. Dinner is at Hot Diggity Dogs next to a
pretty public garden. The Thursday special is the "Shonen Knife" teriyaki & honey ramen hotdog.
Long line to get into the venue. Nowhere Squares opened. Last 2 drumheads for this tour, I guess
they've used up everything Risa saved for 6 months. Naoko describes the smiling, singing, dancing
audience as "smoky" (?). Packaged apple slices, cheese and caramel dip. Good, not like it sounds.
Atsuko
May 11th Birmingham, AL @syndicate Loungewww.shonenknife.net/blog/archives/24265Crossing a time zone means you can get on the road at 11am. Breakfast at IHOP for lunch, fairy lights
on the stage, Ramones poster and KISS pinball (it works). Avondale Park is beautiful. The Shonen Knife
special at Hot Diggity Dogs, delicious of course with a Tater Tots-like side. Drumheads: Naoko inks,

Drumheads drawn by Naoko, colored by everyone. The show hit peak excitement, thanks BRC!!!

Low Key Arts: Naoko worries about food coloring in doughnuts, Risa goes straight for the antiseptic-blue
raspberry ice cream at "Thirtyone" (Baskin-Robbins, where flavors are colors). Featured from the hotel gift bag:
cookie. Tragically, multiple drownings at the venue but kawaii dressing room. On-air interview with solar-powered
community radio
KUHS 97.9 LPFM. Yakisoba every day, today is a restaurant called Osaka. A cute drumstick,
and the Hot Springs show also hit the heights. Girls, lots of them came to watch!!
〜〜〜
Risa's English clearly written not by Google. Something to applaud.
Naoko
May 12, Low Key Arts, Hot Springs ARwww.shonenknife.net/blog/archives/242628-hour drive, hard rain, over the Mississippi River to AR. Naoko tears her Subway sandwich
in half with her bare hands, rendering it "zannai" (Osaka dialect for "unsightly"). Naoko defines
as "I can't bear to look at it." Trivia: Hot Springs and Hanamaki City in Iwate prefecture are
sister cities.
Mountain Tower reminds Naoko of
Tsutenkaku Tower in Osaka. Super artistic venue,
radio station interview. Dinner at Osaka, where the chef has a 12" mohawk. Westerners serve
miso soup with a spoon right in the bowl because you're not supposed to hold it in your hands!
Ramen catering truck, pool table *and* a second stage in the dressing room. Good show, many
young people, women, even children. Love Honey bock beer from Lost Forty Brewing Co.
Oyasumi.

is a taco truck re-fit. Interviewed by KUHS after sound check, then sushi and yakisoba at Osaka
with its wildman chef. The whole second floor is their dressing room. SPINAL TAP REMINDER:
a miniature Moai statue. Fashion designer
Mo Lappin of Howlpop does a runway show. Then it's
time to rock! Yay, another young audience. TU Hot Springs RC!
