BEST LIVE ACT 2017http://instagr.am/p/BVV4gkLjXNo Vote for pity's sake. It's not like they can win against bands with 100X the name recognition, but a vote for the lesser-knowns counts much more. I'll go down in flames defending the Pixies, but… c'mon, the Pixies live, over Otobi — in 2017?

BEST LIVE ACT 2017Vote for pity's sake. It's not like they can win against bands with 100X the name recognition, but a vote for the lesser-knowns counts much more. I'll go down in flames defending the Pixies, but… c'mon, the Pixies live, over Otobi — in 2017? They've already had my vote. Looking at the choices given on the list, for me it wasn't a difficult choice. Otobi shone out like a pearl amongst the "You're kidding right?" and the "Who?".

Pop's first job is to keep up
It's hard to tell who's leading the chase here, but clearly Pop's responsibility is to make everything right somehow, while being dragged by wild horses.
It's still sore around the little finger on my right hand. If you study this, I'm overusing the elbows and knees. Massage well and go to bed…
Fuji Rock people, people employed in childrearing and housekeeping normally, everyone altogether on Monday, thank you for your hard work. 🙇
Choushuu made the video for us while roadie-ing. To be sure, it's unusual to shoot from this angle 😯 Not July anymore Good night 🌙
This is pretty marvelous to watch. Pop looks a little like she's running 800 meters at the track.

Well, now, here's a little something http://instagr.am/p/BXRPQaajslp Otoboke Beaver http: //pitchfork.com/news/watch-otoboke-beavers-intense-ikezu-anime-video/amp/The MV of "Ikezu" from Otoboke Beaver has been released at Pitchfork!
Production: Asano Naoyuki Costumes furnished by: @cupandcone_jpCup and Cone is a bicycle-oriented clothing shop. I take it that their name is about the crank bearing in an old-school bottom bracket. SPOILER: Heed the IG visual, boys and girls, this cartoon is violent. After they lull you into dropping your guard, you're going to get knifed. Otoboke Beaver おとぼけビ〜バ〜 - “ikezu” いけず (Mean) (Official Music Video)2017 AUG 01 by Pitchfork (00:55) Official video for いけず "ikezu" (Mean) by Otoboke Beaver おとぼけビ〜バ〜 from their latest single "Love Is Short!!"
Directed and edited by renowned animation director and character designer Naoyuki Asano (Mr. Osomatsu).
"ikezu" Dialect of the Kansai region. Definition: malicious; ill-tempered; unkind; odious; hateful; hooligan; ruffian; villain; scoundrel; wrongdoer; wicked person; a bad person.
"Love is Short!!" is available on CD, 7" and digital download now. itunes.apple.com/us/album/love-is-short-single/id1218278276 otobokebeaver.bandcamp.com/
www.facebook.com/Otobokebeaver22 twitter.com/otobokebeaver
That's not a definition, that's a thesaurus entry. Ikezu is supposed to be "mean", or a mean person, in contemporary usage and I read that it's most often females talking to males. 〜〜〜〜〜 The MV director saw a hysterical 19-second song as something that could be worked up with a reasonable amount of labor. How does a clothing shop supply wardrobe for a cartoon? Pop has your answer. The girl's outfit in the "Ikezu" MV is branded menswear from cup and cone in Zoshigaya Station, Tokyo. There are people on the production team led by Asano-san who love the clothing there (those assorted people are amazing too). The collaboration materialized from there.
I could recreate her if my hair were long, I love the brand concept the most. Sincere thanks, Yoda-san!

What was that about!?Oh, about 25 sec setup, about 11 sec cleanup, and about 19 sec payload Being grabbed by the neck and pounded is a good analogy for hearing Otoboke Beaver, especially this song. Making it a traditional cartoon beating does 2 things: it's comic, so it dispels the fear that OtoBi actually do want to see you dead; and it connects the OB feeling of rage with all those culture icons you didn't suspect of wanting to kick your ass. Here they are, FYI. There's the expected Japanese obliviousness to any concern by people of African descent about being depicted in animal skins with apes for companions. Hey, a good Queen of the Jungle was what the mix needed! All ages! Nuns, geishas, gundam, fire elementals, zombies welcome! If the principal avenging man-basher looks a little like Accorinrin, it's probably one of those random coincidences. The director solved the problem of the song being too short to make an satisfying subject, by turning it into an elaborate ambush. Which is genius and not something everybody would have thought of. Damnably seems to have realized that a cartoon video of this toon was the absolute maximum bang for the buck, which is its own kind of genius. 〜〜〜 The supporting storyline is about: waking up on an idyllic weekend morning next to the one you love, and thrashing the obtuse bastard awake because nothing else has gotten his attention so far. Not that you hate him exactly, but he's so far out of adjustment that he has to be realigned with a mallet. Suddenly you don't feel quite so frustrated anymore! I choose to take it this way, because otherwise the whole thing is a duplicitous framing of the song in a way that says, heck, we don't really mean it. 〜〜〜 And what *do* they mean? The MV end-titles explaining the song title I don't find all that helpful. 「いけず」 関西地方で使われる方言。 意地の悪いさま。にくらしいさま。 また、その人、その男を表す。 悪人、ならず者。 | "Ikezu" Kansai chihou de tsukawa reru hougen. Ijinowarui sama. Nikurashii sama. Mata, sono hito, sono otoko o arawasu. Akunin, narazumono.
| "Ikezu" Dialect used in the Kansai region. Being evil-natured. Being hateful. Also signifies that man, that person. Bad person, rogue. |
Is the boyfriend so bad and hateful? Shouldn't you be getting rid of him in that case? Looking around, I think I have learned that when a Kyoto female says ikezu, there's a velvet glove over the fist. It's a jawbreaker delivered as a mild slap. This explanation is for the mostly-female readers of woman.mynavi.jp: "Ikezuna person!" "Good morning, welcome back!" Do the shaded meanings of Kyoto speech give you the feeling that you're going to misunderstand?woman.mynavi.jp/article/130814-040/ Kyoto speech being "lively but restrained", the dialect feels romantic somehow. However, we've collected some terms in the Kyoto dialect that are shockingly likely to be misunderstood. If things like this are said, it might make you totally dizzy!? You're an ikezuna person!! If you're a man, you might be called something like this in the Kyoto dialect. It means,「意地悪な人ですね」(Ijiwaruna hito desu ne) "You are a mean/nasty/malicious/unkind/bad-tempered person."
Use it on occasions when you want to prick someone with a single word, or for deflecting a companion's harsh jokes.
Where the other party is someone you like, but you're fed up with various things, when they are taking no notice of the alarm bells, when there's nothing else to be done with the other person, use it.
If you're a lady-killer guy in Kyoto, I wonder if you haven't had plenty of phrases like this tossed at you?
There's a bunch more on the topic in the Learn Japanese thread: shonenknife.proboards.com/post/19120/thread

This Song Does More In 19 Seconds Than You Will In Your Entire LifeOtoboke Beaver’s “Mean” slams. 2017 AUG 03 by Leah Mandel for the Fader www.thefader.com/2017/08/03/this-otoboke-beaver-song-is-literally-19-seconds-long There are a lot of things that make Japanese punk group Otoboke Beaver special. One reason is that they're co-signed by legendary '90s punks Shonen Knife… I don't actually know what "co-signed by Shonen Knife" is supposed to mean. Maybe, approved by. But Shonen Knife is not underwriting OB any more than they are the Pats Pats, and I think Shonen Knife's regard does more for the doughnut-loving Pats Pats than for raging adrenalin punks from Kyoto. It's as if to say, I'm not really too familiar with either band but I think both are cool. The Fader promotes jazzy style over depth, consistently.

On the third day of Fuji Rock, Otoboke Beaver made their entrance as the lead-off batters at Rookie. After the end of the show, they came back for an encore!! It was amazing.
"Powerful Busu". OB were dragged back by the audience. Festivals highly discourage encores, they screw up the schedule for the entire day.

"Ikezu" again, the lyricsOne line, should be a snap. Right? Right? The heart of the song and the music video, both. Here we are again with the wronged woman busting her poor knuckles on the thick head of the guy who disregarded her completely for the 1,000th time by never ever coming home from work when he's supposed to. This is a national sore spot in Japan, as you're probably aware. The regular work day is like an endurance challenge. The first one to give up and go home is the big loser. Once the boss decides to pack it in, if he ever does, there's more business talk over drinks which leads to bar food and carousing, and oh damn, I told the little woman I'd be home for dinner oh well that's how it goes she'll just have to understand I'm under a lot of pressure here. To which the women say, Oh, bullshit... So, now I'm halfway in a position to do lyrics for this one-line song. One line of treacherous thickets and pitfalls. I rely on Pop's say-so for the actual words, because my D/L copy of the single didn't come with any lyrics sheet. Although Janice Damnably put in a nice English trans of "Love Is Short", with commentary.
| Ohhh-mae kyou nanji ni kaeru teiuta Omae kyou nanji ni kaeru teiuta Omae kyou nanji ni kaeru teiuta
I -ke, -ke, -ke, -kezuuuu!!
Omae kyou nanji ni kaeru teiuta Omae kyou nanji ni kaeru teiuta Omae kyou nanji ni kaeru teiuta
Ikezu ikezu ikezu ikezu Ikezu ikezu ikezu ikezu Ikezu!!!!
| What time did you say you would come home today? What time did you say you would come home today? What time did you say you would come home today?
You mean-, mean-, mean-, meaniiiee!!
What time did you say you would come home today? What time did you say you would come home today? What time did you say you would come home today?
Mean person, mean person, mean person, mean person Mean person, mean person, mean person, mean person Mean person!!!! |
The key phrase is Crunchyroll's translation. There are problems with this, of course. For one thing, it seems like it should at least be spelled っていうた instead, but what do I know. Plus, "tteiuta" should precede the bit it talks about… and here, it's trailing at the end. For another thing, I challenge you to actually hear Accorinrin saying "nanji ni" anyplace. It sounds more like "kara tte de" doesn't it? A mystery to me still. Don't forget to thrill to Accorinrin's middle "ikezuuuuuuuu". In the midst all of this vocal-fold-mutilating roaring and shrieking, out comes a vowel as pure, sweet and high as a foxhound's note. It's a true miracle of nature. Or modern sound recording. 〜〜〜 Plus, you've really got to appreciate the special status of the dialect surrounding Kyoto. 標準語 京ことば 京都弁 | Hyoujun-go Kyou kotoba Kyouto-ben | The national standard Kyoto speech Kyoto dialect | Meaning, what's "correct" in Tokyo The most truly Japanese Japanese Don't call it that, thanks. Dialect is what *you* speak. |
Because the old town has taken it upon itself to be a kind of living fossil of the Edo period, they still speak a version of Japanese related to what was current in their area when it was known as Mountain Fortress Country (till the abolition of the old domains in 1871). The accent is broadly in the Keihan way of speaking, like Osaka. But compared to Osaka dialect, what the geishas say to you is even more soft, more laid-back and musical, more indirect, more metaphorical and symbolic, with more onomatopoeia and more doubling of words for emphasis. Oh, right — that would explain Otoboke Beaver, then. 🤔Kyoto thinks: Osaka thinks: Tokyo thinks: Kyoto thinks: | The Japanese of Osaka sounds rapid and clipped. The Japanese of Tokyo sounds rapid and clipped. Kyoto talks in a way that calls for translation. Tokyo needs to remember where the seat of power was for 1,000 years. |

Pop experiences prejudice from people who like their celebrities on some kind of pedestal. There's always somebody who doesn't believe in her double-tracked career.

It seems Otoboke Beaver's "Love Is Short" has been added to Spotify's official playlist 😉 Spotify UK as well, I'm honored〜👸
So at any rate, I collected all the songs I've been listening to and made a playlist at Spotify, Noda-san is making a debut (lol)
