Sorry for being so slow with pics, I've only just got around to putting my stuff on the computer. 100 Club, London 1 May 2017I'll admit that I was slightly disappointed when this one was announced as I'm not keen on this venue and tend to avoid it if possible. But I had to go. For various reasons including my train running late, I arrived some time after the doors had opened. Having had to rush across London with a raging toothache that laughed in the face of painkillers as well as all my usual aches and pains, wasn't a good start for the evening. While I was hanging about outside the venue and smoking a final rollie, the friend whose house I'd be staying at that night arrived, so we went in together. The smiling face of Janice from Damnably records greeted us at the door. She was on ticket duty and recognised us. After marking us with a green cross, we were in. Tickets had sold out for tonight. The 100 Club is in a cellar. Walking down the steps, you enter the dimly lit room about midway along the back wall, and facing a low and wide stage on the opposite side of the room about fifteen paces away. To left and right the room stretches off into the distance with a bar at either end of the room. Only one bar was open tonight. The room is much wider than it is deep and feels more like a wide corridor with the stage against one wall. To the side of the stage was an area of tables and chairs most of which had "Reserved" on them. Glancing around the room, almost the first face I spotted was a familiar Scandinavian one from many Shonen Knife gigs. We briefly chatted, I had to make a dash for syrupy rehydration, then it was time to grab our separate spots 'cos Say Sue Me were about to play. On entering the room I'd taken note of where the equipment was on-stage and had already decided where I wanted to be and so headed there. Say Sue Me took to the stage. For some reason they were using a replacement drummer that they'd only met two days ago. They happily told us that they are from the good Korea and so aren't bad people, and that this was their first foreign tour. image hostcertificity.comupload piccertificity.comimage hosting no sign upimage hosting no sign upSay Sue Me performed a great set and entertained the crowd despite the replacement drummer and I promised myself that I'd get their new Damnably CD. Then it was soon time for the main event. Otoboke Beaver. Yep, I was in the right place for lots of close-up Yoshi action. The room went silent OB were on-stage. After a few brief noodles on their instruments and a pause, Yoshi screamed out something in Japanese including the words Otoboke Beaver and it was full-on into the first song where each instrument has its own moment. I particularly enjoyed Hiro's bass. Mmm. Under pressure from the music, the crowd started hot and quickly there was dancing. The second song started and I quickly got dragged away from the front by a stroppy bouncer who went "You, out! No video!" Eventually he calmed down after closely examining my camera and when I showed him what was on the camera. I was taking pictures and short, maybe 10 second clips to grab a still from, not filming. He begrudgingly let me go and repeated his "No video!" threat. Pah! I managed to get back to near my chosen spot, but it wasn't quite the same, not as good. My camera doesn't do too well in the red gloom we had that night, but have some pics... free upload picturescertificity.comfree photo hostingcertificity.comupload imgcertificity.comupload photoscertificity.comfree image hostingcertificity.comfree upload picturescertificity.comscreen shotscertificity.comscreen capture freewarecertificity.comimage url uploadcertificity.compicture upload sitescertificity.comscreen capture freewarecertificity.comimage upload no compressioncertificity.comBy the second half of OB's set, the crowd to the front and centre part of the stage descended into a raging moshpit no doubt helped along by Yoshi crowd surfing. Hard, fast, tight and loud, Otoboke Beaver gave us a good time and after the gig, the merch table was swamped by eager punters. More OB pics here, due to my ineptness they're with last year's pics.

For some reason they were using a replacement drummer that they'd only met two days ago. They happily told us that they are from the good Korea and so aren't bad people, and that this was their first foreign tour. Don't you hate it when peninsular disputes mushroom into your local airspace. Oh, bad choice of words.Yep, I was in the right place for lots of close-up Yoshi action. I'll say!I quickly got dragged away from the front by a stroppy bouncer who went "You, out! No video!" Eventually he calmed down after closely examining my camera and when I showed him what was on the camera. I was taking pictures and short, maybe 10 second clips to grab a still from, not filming. I managed to get back to near my chosen spot, but it wasn't quite the same, not as good. My camera doesn't do too well in the red gloom we had that night, but have some pics... Good enough to make a nice set...By the second half of OB's set, the crowd to the front and centre part of the stage descended into a raging moshpit no doubt helped along by Yoshi crowd surfing. Bands feel like they're connecting when this happens, but actually no one is paying attention to them anymore once the play-fighting starts.Hard, fast, tight and loud, Otoboke Beaver gave us a good time and after the gig, the merch table was swamped by eager punters. Commercial success, let it happen please. One of those punters has my Kickstarter premium t-shirt. Merch fulfillment not as strong at Damnably as some other places.More OB pics here, due to my ineptness they're with last year's pics. Year, schmeer. Good going! We found nothing of him, but his camera was intact. The last frame was this: No, there was no video. Why?

There are a couple of vids of OB that have been posted. Damnably's "official" live vids. Shot from the very back of the room on George's camera. Here's Bethnel Green Working Men's Club, m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10155057076555751&id=19551005750 For the encore, the camera comes to the side of the stage and there's crowdsurfing. Damn, I love that venue, I could have gone, I should have gone, I wasn't up to going. One of OB did some DJ-ing after the gig and stuff continued until late closing at 2am. There was another vid that I can't find anymore, and can't remember where I saw it. Twitter perhaps? I made the mistake of not downloading it right away 'cos it also was from the very back of the room. I have noticed that at least one stage barnacle was at all of the gigs on this tour. I saw him at the three I was at, and have seen him in pics of the other gigs. Lucky guy.

Actually, It is not so much "No Filming", more like "No Posting Vids". Or at least no posting without permission. A couple of days ago on Facebook, I saw a post from OB saying that they didn't mind filming, but they don't want vids posted and that they'd love to see our vids from the tour. I did shoot vid of one gig (The Musician), but very much doubt that they'd let me post it. Ho hum. Eventually I'll have to try and get 'round to sending the vid to them if I ever get 'round to finishing it.

Basic media math: [{any video to be posted}×{post only by permission}] ÷ [{no permission} × {ever}] = {any video posted ÷ ever} = {all video not posted ever} {all video not posted ever} × {might have been} = 0 Fairly sure OB were not vetting every ½∀∯⋲Δ Instagram clip from SXSW, and my feel is that those did them quite a lot of good! Not to mention me, some. Now, see, that phone movie from the George is awful to look at, but still priceless. The bar for passing is so, so low. The only way to keep media absolutely off the Internet is to prevent its being made in the first place, though.

Now, see, that phone movie from the George is awful to look at, but still priceless. The bar for passing is so, so low. The only way to keep media absolutely off the Internet is to prevent its being made in the first place, though. But it is starting to get difficult to get tickets to some gigs or even get into the gigs unless you have a suitable video camera - a mobile phone. Many newer mobile phones are somewhat better than my camera - and my camera doesn't do tickets. There's not much chance of completely preventing filming with modern video cameras. I've seen ones advertised on TV which are specifically aimed at people who want to video gigs. Then there are also the stealth cameras that are starting to get rather good now, and they'll only get better and cheaper. I'm just wondering when I'll see my first Shonen Knife gig in 360 degree video. Though I'll have to get the right glasses to get a decent interactive view. It is not the same watching a flat view of the action. Ah well, time to stop dribbling, take my medication and perhaps get more treatment at the hospital... "No Cliff, don't take me there!!!"

Beaver self-development corner
Not to belittle anyone in OB in any way, but unexpected = funny www.instagram.com/p/BUCLikBFxGFM2HLwDdUaybDF-4t-726jDs3QTI0 The impact of the obi band is a bit much, but inside are performances from the Philharmonic Orchestra of Tchaikovsky's "Pathetique" and Beethoven's "Fate". #Karajan #popvinyltime | | kinchan666I've never seen anything like that obi! The calligraphic style of 悲愴 (pathetic) and 運命 (fate) is still cool, isn't it?
Proboards does not like the look of that URL for Pop's original I-gram. I think she has rigged it so her Instagrams are not directly shareable, but that won't prevent us. After I stopped cracking up over her appreciation of von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmoniker, I realized that this the classical conductor that might appeal most to Otoboke Beaver. With the Beethoven symphony, first movement especially, he goes like a runaway train. Not only is it fast, but there's this constant feeling as of, there are no brakes on this thing. Sound like anyone you can think of? Pop's new LP is a budget-classical compilation in the Angel Records "Angel Golden Couple" series. One symphony per side of a 33.33rpm 12" LP, and in this case that means both symphonies are lacking their concluding 4th movements. Which does suck absolutely, let's be honest. Not sure if Pop realizes yet. Nobody would buy this record unless they were exploring. 〜〜〜〜〜 I know what, let's ignore Tchaikovsky completely! Beethoven's Symphony No 5 introducedBeethoven’s Fifth is, says the English conductor, a revolutionary symphony akin to a call to battle2014 OCT 13 by Sir John Eliot Gardiner for Gramophone www.gramophone.co.uk/feature/beethovens-symphony-no-5-introduced-by-sir-john-eliot-gardiner…at this point in his life [ Ludwig van ] was really under the spell of the French Revolution… and the famous theme that opens this symphony is derived from Cherubini’s revolutionary Hymne du Panthéon of 1794… If this had come out into the open in a city as incredibly reactionary as Vienna, he would have been incarcerated, there’s no doubt about it. Beethoven's unreliable secretary had it that LvB himself described the core motif as the sound of Fate knocking at the door, and accordingly Symphony No.5 was nicknamed "Fate". That's how it's referred to on Pop's LP jacket. Thanks to events of the mid-20th century, it got popular in the English-speaking world to call it the "Victory" symphony, but obvious why this wouldn't catch on in Japan. Listen along with Pop: Carlos Kleiber (Wiener Philharmoniker 1974) Kind of a critical listening version, exemplifies: Clarity, accuracy, articulation, scrupulousness, musicality, polish youtu.be/RKcAAA1O2scHerbert von Karajan (Berlin Philharmoniker 1964) Great works by rock stars for rock stars, exemplifies: Vigor, energy, contrast, tension, brilliance, force youtu.be/mPq1PzAFZ6oWilhelm Furtwängler (Berlin Philharmoniker 1954) Final re-statement by a virtuoso born in 1886, exemplifies: Subjectivity, deliberation, grandeur, drama, stateliness, profundity youtu.be/ZU4JhPgA5EMThe interpretation of a Furtwängler 20 years younger is excerpted on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphony_No._5_(Beethoven)

Looks like the biggest gig since their return to the home islands. Today in Osaka. Fairies tomorrow, an Osaka gig for the first time in 2 years! Our first T-shirt is for sale, in our 14th year since formation. ♡
◆ 6/3 (Sat) FANDANGO 13 Appearing in an Otoboke Beaver project ♡ 7pm — Fairies 7:50pm — bed 8:40pm — Otoboke Beaver
I think Otoboke Beaver's Yoshie-chama and the Fairies' Dark King are alike. Off duty, the Dark King answers to Araki. Yoshie sees the similarity. Do you?

Accorinrin has similarities, too, OK?
Kaori-san from the Fairies and me. She was talking about how Yoshie-chan and the Dark King are similar. 😂 [ Check out ] Kaori-san's and my pistol scenes. 😂
But Accorinrin can put you away with just fingers, so that's more powerful.

Otoboke Beaver “Love Is Short”2017 JUN 02 by by Jenn Pelly for Pitchfork in Tracks/Rock pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/19162-otoboke-beaver-love-is-short/ …Their influences are primarily Japanese groups from the 1980s (in interviews, they mention Yapoos and Hikasyu), but the fire of “Love Is Short” recalls a lineage of patriarchy-scorching girl-gang shrieks, from the Slits’ “Shoplifting” to Bikini Kill’s “Liar” and beyond… They ought to be a little careful at Pitchfork about seeming to impute influences the band may not ever have known much about. But even with its fugue moments, the review is real rock journalism. Good for OB, and 2 weeks on the physical singles sales chart isn't to sniff at, although they're giving up 25 or 50 positions to artists that are dead or the next nearest thing. This is a win primed by tour merch and Record Day, I guess. If purely digital media and streams were counted, I not sure either the Byrds or OtoBi would be above the horizon.
