...I was trying to get a decent pic of Atsuko's hands and didn't care what else was in the picture. As it turned out, that didn't work very well, my fingers weren't working very well and I couldn't zoom in and hold the camera steady. But I can't resist posting a couple of pics of some very lovely hands, so here's some pics of Naoko's hands at Dingwalls. I'll have to try and upload some decent pics of Atsuko and Risa, but you'll have to be patient. Dude! Michelangelo spent ages on just hands. A guitarist's hands are where the music is. This is a great gallery!

...I was trying to get a decent pic of Atsuko's hands and didn't care what else was in the picture... Dude! Michelangelo spent ages on just hands. A guitarist's hands are where the music is. This is a great gallery! So right, hands are wonderful things and as you said, the hands are where the music is for guitarists - and other musicians. At gigs I often find myself not paying much attention to anything else. For one of SK's support bands at one of the gigs, the light was catching the drummer's hands just perfectly for where I was watching. So I spent a fair while just staring at his hands as he shredded the sticks on the cymbals. The flakes were falling down onto a drumhead just below and they were dancing around then flying off in all directions. I wish I'd tried to get a shot of that. Sometimes it is hard to drag my eyes off guitarists and bass players hands and occasionally I worry that female band members might think that I'm just ogling their tits. So I look at their shoes. Then it seems like I'm leching at their legs. Thanks. Glad you like the pics, I'm happy with most of them, though there's always the permanent worry that other people don't see the pictures as I see them Then there's the documentary type pics. With previous mention of shoes and leching at legs, it brings me to mention that I noticed Naoko's got a big muff and its starting to show its age... dingwalls, naoko's pedals...I meant her effects pedal. I was talking about one of her effects pedals! Atsuko's just using the usual Damnably bass rig and one pedal. Isn't that Ritsuko's bass she's playing? I've got a couple of pics of that solitary pedal somewhere, but those pics haven't made it onto my computer yet. Hopefully one is suitable to show at some stage *. Here's Naoko's setlist for Dingwalls, the one that got someone thrown out because of grabbing it too early. dingwalls, naoko's setlistAs you can see, the setlist was securely taped to the floor, so it seemed like it took him ages to get it free, but probably was only a handful of seconds. He peeled one bit of tape free, took a quick glance up at an irate bouncer then continued to carefully unstick the other side before fleeing into the crowd. * Software issues are causing me grief just now, so I'll need to get round to trying to load something else soonish. But at least I've finally managed to find the installation disc I need for it.

Really just one pedal... is probably a tuner? But every time I look at the feet of a Japanese bass player in the last year or so, if there's one FX pedal it's from SansAmp. Interesting if Attchan makes one more. The big red Aria does look like Ritsuko's DMB-01. I don't think it's really anybody's but Aria's. They just pull it out of the trunk when it's time for Shonen Knife to go out and represent them, and when the tour's done it goes back in its box. As long as they think SK is retro-rock, Aria would be satisfied to send one out with them. It's supposed to evoke a '60s Mosrite. Rits herself had a small litter of pedals. A photo from about a year ago showed: Boss TU-3 chromatic tuner ▼ Sobbat Drive Breaker DB-2 overdrive ▼ Boss Blues Driver BD-2 overdrive ▼ T.C. Electronic stereo chorus flanger with pitch modulator And they all looked like they had been dragged behind the tour bus for a month. The Sobbat pedal is a filthy, dirty tube overdrive effector aimed at guitarists, but that's what she had plugged in. I guess that was her fuzz tone!

So, a star is born. They're just stumbling over what epithets to use. World's Cutest, World's Happiest, World's Biggest Smile. Ritsuko and Emi used to say EXACTLY the same stuff about her. That you could see the smile from the stage whenever she was in the audience. Risa getting raves at The Haunt in Brighton on the 21st. Ian Bourn photo.Brighton fixture Ian Bourn of Ian's Media Works put up a selection of medium closeups on Twitter. twitter.com/mediaworks6At his Facebook page, there's a short video clip with some silly graphics. Be warned that this thing has sound and is VERY LOUD!!facebook.com/ianbmediaworks/videos/1718050981811582/?video_source=pages_finch_main_video

Yes, Leeds is one of the gigs I've got a ticket for I'll see you at the gig later today then, and presumably Sasquatch will be there like last time?

Just in case anyone is thinking that Egg Crisis is mad for posting a blurred picture of a seemingly random glass of coke, here's what that same glass looked like from where I was standing... my glassAfter the gig we'd been chatting and making sure that we'd got some pics in our cameras and I found this mysterious photo had appeared amongst my pics of the gig without me knowingly having taken it. Perhaps the glass has supernatural powers - Extra Sensory Photographic ones. Spooky. Yes, the bus turned up about 20 minutes later, so I got back to the hotel with no problems. Thanks for walking me to the bus stop.

Interview with Naoko, just in time to completely miss the interest surrounding the EI/UK tour. But way early for North America, probably why Good Charamel was excited. This magazine actually comes out in print. SHONEN KNIFE: PLEASANT DREAMSAfter 35 years, Shonen Knife is still playing music to make people happy 2016 May 21 by Tom Lanham for Magnet Magazine.com magnetmagazine.com/2016/05/18/shonen-knife-pleasant-dreams/“Shonen Knife had a membership change in recent years, because women have to sometimes do parent care and family things… I was lucky I could find very good new members. So my energy for rock 'n' roll is allowing me to continue.”
Yamano only wishes her teenage daughter were more excited by such achievements. “She doesn’t like rock music, it’s very weird to her—she likes anime and manga instead,” she says. “I think rock music is gradually being forgotten now by young people in Japan.”So poetic, the rock 'n' roller who had to sneak the guitar case past her own mom has a kid who thinks rock music is dorky and irrelevant. Ema's payback will be to give birth to another Iggy Pop, however.

Atsuko's blog is updated through 16 April, Birmingham at O2. It's not that big a deal. shonenknife.net/blog/The trusty tour van lacks sleeping berths, TV, and barI've NEVER seen that model of VW, before... you Euros get the coolest stuff from that company!
