Budo Grape are a catchy, high-energy avant-garde pop band from Nagoya, Japan. Formed in 2001. They released their first album in 2005, and their latest one a couple of months ago. budo grapebudo grape onstageBand members: Quminco ÷ Grape ( vocals ) Long ÷ Grape ( vocals , guitar ) Matsui ÷ Grape ( base ) 74 ÷ Grape [Naho ÷ Grape] ( synthesizer ) Taichi ÷ Grape ( drums ) Long ÷ Grape is the song writer. Quminco ÷ Grape is also a model/radio personality. Naho ÷ Grape is the most recent band member, replacing Green ÷ Grape on keyboards. Here's a playlist with some nice vids of them playing in Tokyo earlier this year. youtu.be/SXe-AKTtnVo?list=PLTCv39PrLLRN9GYwgdfyfrvZKvomtjV9CHere's a rather nice interview with them from 2012, just before their first UK tour and not too long after the lovely Naho joined the band itcamefromjapan.co.uk/budo-grape/

Last year I was lucky enough to see them playing on their UK tour. I joined the band as part of Audience ÷ Grape and I saw them in the afternoon at last year's Doki Doki festival in Manchester, and then again in the evening at the after-party show in the Manchester University student union bar. They were great, and Naho was very cute. Someone's posted one song from the afternoon show at the Doki Doki festival. Not much dancing from this crowd, but for their evening performance, nearly everyone in the room was dancing and everyone was grinning like lunatics. After the gigs, the band did an autograph session at the merch table and I got a hug off Quminco, the singer, and had a chat with Naho. They were very approachable and friendly. Both excellent gigs and I'd love to see Budo Grape again.

Quick Mikado, avert your eyes, 74÷grape has a hole in her sock... Stripy socks and a peek at a toe! Ooh! The little temptress, she knows how to get the guys all excited.

That clip is such '80s new-wave synth pop! I kept waiting for them to break into "Video killed the radio star..." gl0r has too much tact to draw attention to the outrageous bare ankles above the toe-socks, but I for one am shocked. Shocked, and... well, amused.

That clip is such '80s new-wave synth pop! I kept waiting for them to break into "Video killed the radio star..." They started a fair few songs off that way, with Naho often playing a bit of an old familiar song on her keyboard before sliding into one of their own songs. I'll have to get around to digging out some video to show a bit more.

Hmm, it turns out that my failing memory is playing tricks on me and combining the two sets that I saw them playing in Manchester. Unfortunately since I only filmed the afternoon set, you'll have to miss out on the song with the Queen intro. I guess that this one will have to do. This is the other song from that afternoon that started in a "familiar way", it's just a quick upload of one song chopped out of their set. I uploaded this in a desperate attempt to try and take my mind off that pesky Ievan Polkka that that was buzzing round in my head. But it failed to free me of the polka. Perhaps it was my own fault for having this rather short playlist of selected versions playing almost non-stop in a continuous loop for the last couple of days. For the sake of sanity I was playing downloads, so no adverts. Even sleeping didn't stop the playlist from running, I dreamt the Ievan Polkka. And you've not heard the best Ievan Polkka until you've hear Naoko singing it while she's in the bath. Don't worry, it was through a shared bathroom wall which was very poorly sound insulated. Oh no! I feel the need to go and spin a leek.

I still rate what they're doing here as new-wave revival. Pretty OK NWR, though I am listening in a booming train station. All the yellow shirts and polymerized neckties are giving me Devo flashbacks. Ievan Polkka: Welcome To Finland. If it doesn't leave in 72 hours you might as well jump.

If the polka doesn't leave in 72 hours? Another 72 hours!!! Eek! Well, I had been thinking of jumping, then all the neighbours ganged up on me and came around and pushed me out of the bedroom window. They couldn't take it anymore. Yeh, BG's ties etc do give a nod to Devo. So here they are getting all French on us - Il Fait Beau, Il Fait Bon. Perhaps not the best picture quality, but well worth a watch, they sound so cute... ps. Just after posting this, I glanced over at the TV that was flickering away to itself with the sound turned down - and a TV chef was cooking snails! Then they showed snail farming. Hmm. A bit too French.

OMG they are living anime. There is no Dark Matter, the part of the universe no one's measured yet is the pull of Japanese kawaii. o_0

There is no Dark Matter, the part of the universe no one's measured yet is the pull of Japanese kawaii. Oh those poor astronomers who are stuck in their remote mountaintop observatories, and the ones with their giant space telescopes and massive radio telescope arrays. They are all looking for their answers in the wrong place. If only they realised that with a plane ticket to Japan, all would be revealed. Perhaps we should tell those scientists at CERN who are busily experimenting underground with the Large Hadron Collider that they are wasting their energy trying to do things the hard way. The money that was spent on building their gigantic instrument would have been better spent in forming a record label and then releasing a few singles by some Japanese bands with female band members. They'd soon find out about Strange Attractors, Irresistible Forces, Dark Matter, and gravity. They might even discover the mysterious "Rock God" particle...

This is a fairly big find.
We know experimentally that kawaii (Ka) annihilates negativity. It does this by transferring its positive charge.
BUT the kawaii is not diminished or destroyed in the process, and remains positive. Impossible unless additional positivity is being generated to compensate.
Japan is making more and more of this stuff, which is why the universe continues to expand.

This is a fairly big find. Surely tapping the power of kawaii is not just a fairly big find, you could say "It's A New Find".

NOOOO, it's much too dangerous to fool around with,,, don't forget that dropping atom bombs on Japan resulted in the country being attacked by Godzilla and Mothra? IMAGINE what could happen if the power of KAWAII was unleashed... oh no... IT'S TOO LAAAAAAATE! image hosting above 5 mb

It's definitely too late, kawaii is breeding out of control. Mothra is working for it, though, even if it doesn't quite work for Mothra.
