Mickey McCarter: I see that you’re working with local Japanese restaurants to promote your shows and local Japanese cuisine in each market... Oh. Suddenly it makes sense that the tour starts in a restaurant. They probably considered a dinner/concert package at every stop for 5 seconds before coming fully awake.

Amazing that they could get photography of Ritsuko and Emi from this tour. I admire Naoko's patience more and more with every interview. BYT:
Naoko:
| What is next for you guys? What is left for Shonen Knife to accomplish?
We will tour to other areas of the planet earth this year including Japanese shows in July. Everything and nothing for Shonen Knife to accomplish because I don’t do rock music for accomplish something. |

Naoko's first concert was Aerosmith. Everything is coming clear. Contrary to bean-ophile interviewers, Aerosmith isn't exactly a Boston band. Tyler went there from NYC because he thought it would be easier to get noticed on the Boston scene than in New York, where he was from. The person talking about false starts in music with a drill-sergeant piano teacher and a poorly set up acoustic guitar is Naoko, not Risa. Obvious typo is obvious. 〜〜〜〜〜 Naoko's hot band pick: EXTRUDERS. She's consistent about that. Extruders have a rock epiphany2013 APR 18 by IAN MARTIN, special to the JAPAN TIMES www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2013/04/18/music/extruders-have-a-rock-epiphany/ “Before the gig, we were quite intimidated: a lowly rock band performing in front of a god. After, we found we could do it, and that was the turning point for us.”
It was in 2011, after the Great East Japan Earthquake, that the trio came back as Extruders and “rediscovered rock,” as Toriyama puts it, in Saimyoji Temple in Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture, under the watchful gaze of Benzaiten, goddess of the arts.
“We found the core of what we’re doing,” explains guitarist Ryo Okada. “Before, we had rules about ‘what Extruders is’. With Toroid, we took apart those rules, and when we came back as the Extruders again, we found ourselves more instinctive.”extruders.bandcamp.com/ extruders-official.blogspot.jp/〜〜〜〜〜 Atsuko's hot band pick: Convex Level. Because, bass and drum. I don't know how you put together a band like Convex Level and Whitesnake. Convex Level - 60 min.2011 NOV 12 by AEDG (03:36) convexlevel.net/Risa's pick hit: didn't ask, or didn't say. Hmmm.

2017 USA Ramen Adventure Tour INTERVIEW: Shonen Knife @sunnyvale, Brooklyn2017 MAY 04 by Claire Zhang for the Kawaii Kakkoii Sugoi blog www.kawaiikakkoiisugoi.com/2017/05/04/4-29-2017-shonen-knife-interview-sunnyvale-brooklyn/ Atsuko, bassist and sister of Naoko, expressed her admiration of Japanese acts Miyavi and Dir en Grey. She also pointed out their alteration in music styles and attributed their success in America to a continuous effort to develop more modernized sounds.
The girls also revealed a sense of humor when asked which musician they wish to collaborate with next. Their initial answer turned out to be Justin Bieber! Right after spilling the name of the Canadian teen idol there was an immediate sense of regret…Not a verbatim interview, more of a memoir — "Remembering the time I interviewed Shonen Knife". You sense that the author is a little disappointed to find that Shonen Knife is not as crazy into J-pop as she and her readers are. Naoko decides that she can't explain what she likes about Earth, Wind & Fire in just 11 words. EDIT: The same text was also released on 10 May in the KawaiiKakkoiiSugoi | Arts section by the Kyodo News, minus the setlist and photo of a grinning white guy hugging his copy. english.kyodonews.net/news/2017/05/-interview-shonen-knife-sunnyvale-brooklyn

Fair warning, this website is a browser-crushing flying ad server attack. There's not a single locked-content plugin that it doesn't use. You're doing well if you can scroll up or down. Eating ramen with Japanese pop-punk band Shonen Knife in Tampa2017 MAY 16 by Laura Reiley, Times Food Critic for the Tampa Bay Times www.tampabay.com/things-to-do/food/dining/eating-ramen-with-japanese-pop-punk-band-shonen-knife-in-tampa/Naoko, over her mushroom ramen, tries to count up how many songs they sing about comestibles, especially sweet ones. (She's got a sweet tooth.)
"There's 'I Wanna Eat Choco Bars' and 'Flying Jelly Attack,'" she ticks off…
She goes on to list banana chips, sushi bars, wasabi, barbecue, "rock 'n' roll cake," strawberry cream pop and a new song, "Green Tangerine"…
Why food, I ask Naoko, who writes most of the songs…
〜〜〜
What accounts for these Japanese women's youthfulness? "Probably genes," speculates Atsuko… The food critic did a better job introducing the band than the average music/entertainment writer. The food editor obviously includes interviews with J-rock bands on a space-available basis.

Downloadable podcast of a 3-minute telephone interview recorded for broadcast. It can't possibly be a literal "stops in" meeting because of the date. Plus, obvious phone voice is obvious. Shonen Knife Interview2017 MAY 12 by Dan Day for the Eagle 98.1 blog (02:46) eagle981.com/shonen-knife-interview/ Shonen Knife play The Spanish Moon on Sunday, May 14th. Vocalist Naoko stops in to talk “Adventure”, touring and happy faces.Naoko is a little bashful but articulate giving practiced answers to predictable questions. Heck, she may have submitted the questions. You can probably fill in her answers before listening to them. —— How about the new album Adventure, can you kinda tell us what sound you were going for when you made that album?
—— For those people that maybe don't know the band so well, how much do you sing in English and how much in Japanese?
—— Of course your band tours all over the world. What are some of your favorite cities, not just here but across the whole world?
—— I always hear great things about playing concerts in Japan. Are the crowds really that great? I hear they sing back to you, they're just very appreciative of everything you do — is that true in your experience?
—— What really does keep you and the band going day-to-day?〜〜〜 Valley Boy Dan says "Spanish Mewn". Way to sound like a native to folks in Bat-own Rouge. Day at Night with Dan Day airs from 7pm–Midnight, Central Time on WDGL, Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge LA. Pop-punk band from Japan plays for sister-city exchange2017 MAY 11 by Sean Clancy for Arkansas Online www.arkansasonline.com/news/2017/may/11/pop-punk-band-from-japan-plays-for-sist/ …Beloved Japanese bubblegum punk trio Shonen Knife headline a fundraising concert for Garland County students traveling to Japan as part of the Sister City Educational Exchange.
Proceeds from the band's Friday night show at Low Key Arts in the Spa City will help 21 students spend a week, from May 31-June 8, with a host family in Hanamaki, a city of just under 100,000 in the Iwate Prefecture of the country's northern Tohoku region…Naoko told AO by email that she hadn't known about the sister-city exchange program until they informed her. It does shed a little light as to "why Hot Springs?" Till now, Shonen Knife's nearest pass to Spa City has been Little Rock in 2012. Cult punks of Shonen Knife slice, dice rock sounds2012 AUG 16 by by Jack W. Hill for the print edition of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette www.arkansasonline.com/news/2012/aug/16/cult-punks-shonen-knife-slice-dice-rock-s-20120816/ The band has never played in Arkansas before, and since one of the group’s best-known songs is called “BBQ Party,” Yamano was advised of Arkansas’ reputation for memorable barbecue. Her reply: “In Japan, Korean-style BBQ is popular. I didn’t know Arkansas BBQ. I’d like to try.”
