Oh, continuity — me like! I haven't read everything on the forum yet, so probably will not do so well on the quiz. You may call me Sun-tan, my childhood friends all do! Cool, Suntan... if you look at the anime/ manga and the SK album reviews, you'll see the 5 code in action

"Now I understand my English lyrics are a little childish or weird, but I think it's an advantage of Shonen Knife music."

"Now I understand my English lyrics are a little childish or weird, but I think it's an advantage of Shonen Knife music." I love her lyrics, the fact that she can write about something other than love, just those little things in life, makes her a genius, in my book!

I love her lyrics, the fact that she can write about something other than love, just those little things in life, makes her a genius, in my book! I think Naoko is a terrific poet of daily life, and her feel for the rhythm of language is great! She seems to have this really droll two-channel sensibility that lets her wink at you while she's being flatly factual about something like snack food. And I totally agree with her self-assessment, especially about earlier work. I mean, she really does know what the hell she is doing.

Rolling Stone India had an October piece on SK's planned appearance at the New Wave Music Fest, but I missed it till now. Playing India One of SK's Big MomentsNaoko remarks on influences, rock in Japan, and the prospect of eating Indian food and writing songs about it.

Slightly pedantic introduction and interview by Paul Curtis from last summer, published in January on the blog of QAGOMA, (Queensland Art Gallery / Gallery of Modern Art). SK played when they were in Brisbane as part of an event called "Future Beauty" for the museum program series Up Late. Let's Rock — An Interview With SK

We've seen some pics, so we knew that Shonen Knife have done a couple of video interviews so far on their American tour. Now we get to see the interviews on YouTube.
Here's a nice interview, Shonen Knife interviewed by Cameron Carlson at Colossalcon 2015
And now we can see the this great vid of Shonen Knifes chat for Kids Interview Bands. "Piper interviewed Naoko, Atsuko, and Emi of Shonen Knife at Ace of Cups in Columbus, Ohio on June 6, 2015."
I particularly like the second of these two. Its not your typical "Interview With a Rock Band". Some interesting answers to some curious questions. We get to find out what superpowers each band member would like to have.

Looked and looked, but didn't found this here already yet. Naoko is Mania No.9, a pretty low number. The 50 Kaitenz jointly hold 3rd place, and Masayo from Lolita No.18 is in 7th.RAMONES FAN CLUB JAPAN – I'M RAMONES MANIA
2008 Interview With Naoko Yamanowww-ramonesfanclubjapan.com/mania9.htmlDate & Place: Tokyo Shibuya, July 2008 Interviewed by: Yuki Kuroyanagi, Club President Photos by: Yuki Kuroyanagi/Sumie Live Photo All Text & Photos © by Yuki Kuroyanagi and RAMONES FAN CLUB JAPANJust open the HTTP link in your favorite translator. This is completely in Japanese. Still a good read. I did a bake-off between Google Translate and Bing, and Google trashes the page considerably less. You can make out almost all of what's going on. It's mid-2008. fun! fun! fun! hasn't seen a US release yet. Atsuko's recently quit the business, Ritsuko's still not permanent. Officially, Shonen Knife is Etsuko and Naoko, who says she's busily writing songs for what will become Super Group. So busily, she doesn't have time for consistent band practice. Etsuko's diligence is a good influence on her, she says. They open with, how'd you get into Western music? Naoko talks about liking the Beatles in junior high school, before Atsuko was old enough to care. After that, it was KISS and the seventies radio hit parade. Like thousands of her peers, Naoko would rush home from school every day and put off doing homework to be able to tape songs from Masami Tanaka's 6 o'clock BEAT ON PLAZA show for FM Osaka radio. This was an album-oriented fifty-minute program that aired one entire LP of choice each day. To close, Naoko rates "I Wanna Be Sedated" as her current fave Ramones tune, but confesses that her home listening now skews toward seventies hard rock. No kidding! She might have looked a little sheepish saying that. 〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜 Other grateful recollections of the musical lifeline that was Beat on Plaza, in Japanese, here: [When I would hear the opening theme song], it was like a conditioned reflex, like Pavlov's dog — it was something thrilling, heart-pounding. The announcer must have known his introductory comments were giving you a chance to air-check... you could hardly fail to get a recording. www-onfield-net/hihou/contents/column.htmlWhen [an album's] A-side finished, the MC would come on, meanwhile giving you the chance to fast-forward a cassette tape. When you discuss music with people of the same generation even now, this is a topic in common you can talk about.Hannan Sound Art Society blog 2007 June

Generally, you don't often see Naoko laughing and smiling like that, on pub pics! I thought that, too. She also talked more frankly than nowadays, without the Standard Replies I've gotten used to seeing. I guess she enjoyed the company, plus she scarfed down her tasty dessert treat ~ ••======== EDIT ========•• Look at the natural wave in the Yamano girl's hair!
