I am so jealous of anyone who can get to go to this show. I desperately want to go, but that's not going to happen. Sniff, sniff.

It'd be nice if there'd be a DVD of the 1000th show... helluva milestone...! Here's hoping! Yes, it would be really great if Shonen Knife did a DVD of this momentous and historic event. Even better would be if they were to do a blueray disk of it. Wow, that'd really be something extra-special. I'd even buy myself an HD television and a blueray player if they were to do that. Buying those items would also mean that I was helping the Japanese economy which is having a bit of an Economic Crisis just now. Because it would almost certainly be a Japanese TV and blueray player that I'd be buying. I'm sure that many other SK fans would want to do likewise, or perhaps they'd just get themselves bigger TVs for that cinematic Shonen Knife experience. In 3D? So sales of Japanese home electronics would soar on a worldwide basis, thus giving Japan a huge influx of foreign money and the trickle-down effect of that would help out every single person in the country. Perhaps someone should mention this to SK. Make sure they know that its their duty to their country for them to video their 1000 th gig! I was muttering to one of my friends only this evening about my hopes for a DVD of this gig. I was also moaning about not being able to go to the gig. This was accompanied with lots of wailing and moaning and gnashing of teeth and much rending of clothes in an performance of truly biblical proportions. I think he may have just about got the message that I'd love to go. Perhaps I'll phone him tomorrow and moan about it some more - just in case he didn't get my subtle hint.

I don't know if any of you have been paying attention to the voting on twitter for songs for the 1000 th gig. But it seems to be going rather slowly. So 'cmon guys, show Shonen Knife that you care. Get voting. Even if you can't go to the gig, at least you can take part in some small way. You never know, you might even get to see video of that favourite song which you voted for. Hopefully on an official Shonen Knife DVD or blueray disc. Or what about hearing it on a live album? That'd be well cool. Don't have a twitter account? Sign up for one, it's quick and easy. Then just tweet your vote including #SK1000 in the tweet. Then if you like, never use twitter again or delete the account. But make the effort and bother to vote, there's only a few days left to do it, and it is worth taking part.

Well, I'm biting the bullet and am taking the trip to the 1,000th gig and funny enough I will be passing through Cleveland and Chicago the nights of their gigs! So originally I was planning only to do the gigs around NYC, but now b/c I'm traveling to St. Paul, MN I wil get to see 2 extra gigs for a total of 9. Philly, NYC, Cleveland, ***ST PAUL, MN*****, Chicago, MA, Baltimore, Asbury, and (just added) NYC again!

So someone did a full tally and this is what we should expect for the 1,000 gig:
"You'll have to excuse me, I really am NOT that obsessed with Shonen Knife (lol), I just work with numbers!
I counted up the votes between Twitter and Facebook and the results:
1st Place with the most votes:
Tortoise Brand Pot Cleaner's Theme
2nd Place:
Miracles
3rd Place tie between:
It's A New Find Music Square Kappa Ex 4th Place tie between:
SPAM Strawberry Cream Puff Wind Your Spring Catnip Dream I Am A Cat
5th Place tie between:
Insect Collector Messy Room Don't Hurt My Little Sister AAAWatching Girl Twist Barbie Ramones Forever
6th Place tie between:
Blue Oyster Cult Loop Di Loop Riding on The Rocket Antonio Baka Guy Bear Up Bison Lazybone Neon Zebra Baggs Muddy Bubbles Hell Elephant Pao Pao
Even if the setlist did not include all 26 songs listed above and they just chose the top 16 songs and 4 songs from the 6th place list (for a setist of 20 songs) they would still get to play at least one song from 13 of their 20 albums which is a great way to celebrate their 1,000 gig!
For those that are curious, the 7 albums that are not represented and their highest voted song from each album are:
Minna Tanoshiku: Spider (3 votes) Happy Hour: Hot Chocolate (3 votes) Strawberry Sound: Wild Life (3 votes) Free Time: Perfect Freedom and Rock n' Roll Cake (3 votes each) Oaska Ramones: Pinhead and The KKK Took My Baby Away (1 vote each) Pop Tune: Move On (2 votes) Overdrive: Dance To The Rock and Shopping (3 votes each)
Honorable mention to When You Sleep, Space Xmas, Orange Sun and Herbs for receiving 3 votes each even though they are not on a proper album."
I recommend that you look this person's post on Facebook and comment on it to let SK know that you are anxious to have them film this as many of these songs are not played often, so it should be captured for posterity!
