Yeah the version of Punk Rock Star on Strawberry Sound that I have is in Japanese...I was able to get the English version off Kazaa several years ago but if they did record any others from that album in English I've never come across them.

Since none of us have Strawberry Sound, how would you like to review the CD for us? (And, if you have Candy Rock... well, again, write a review!) << Actually, you can review any CD or song you like...even if Julie or I have already written one (It's a forum, after all)

My Shonen Knife history - coincidence and tortuous. I see Kyuss bootleg concertvideo, Kyuss concert end, black picture, and 4 girl play beginning on club stage. Music not amateurish, performance is unique. I search many webpages for this group. I not found. 1 week and i see again this videopart, on drum kit - 7 Year Bitch OK. i search this band and other girl band from 80's 90's years. I find my best favourite band Babes in Toyland. I see other girls videos and i see Shonen Knife early home video Kappa-Ex, this is absolutely great video with unsymmetric pantomime-dance from Mitchie, Naoko and Atsuko.

About 10 years ago, I was watching the cartoon series "the Powerpuff Girls" on cartoon network. Between the cartoons and commercials, there were some music videos, starring cartooncharacters, including the PG. It was a punkrock song named "I'm a supergirl", played by a band or artist named "Shonen Knife". I had absolutely no idea what a "shonen" was, but I recorded the video on tape to play it over and over again because I liked that song so much! But as time passed by, I totally forgot about the video until...
...April 2010, when I saw the name Shonen Knife on the website of Paradiso, the famous concerthall in Amsterdam. (Yes, I live in the Netherlands) They were about to play there the next month. The description was: "Cute punk from Japanese trio". So I searched on youtube, and after two or three videos, I decided to see the show! And during that show, I fell in love with this fantastic band!
I will post my story about that show soon on the forum.

I have these albums now, and there is something strange about them: The boxes have English text, and all the lyrics are in English. But when I actually played the cd's, all the songs were in Japanese!
So I don't even know if I have the Japanese or international versions...

Those CDs were Japanese only, they came out before the Knife started doing any albums in English

It was the you tube video of Riding the Rocket that got me hooked.
It's a shame that radio sucks so bad that to find out about a great group like sk,one needs to hear Curt Cobain praise them.
i wonder if Curt wasn't a fan, what it would have meant for sk.Maybe they would have disbanded early.
The real sad thing is Cobain never got to hear anything they did after about the time of Lets Knife. Their Sargeant Pepper came later.

The real sad thing is Cobain never got to hear anything they did after about the time of Lets Knife. Their Sargeant Pepper came later. I only discovered SK because of Kurt. But I think it's natural to want to know what bands our favourite musicians admire. Kurt actually made a conscious effort to wear T-shirts of his favourite bands in photos, so Nirvana fans could discover some 'new' bands: Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, Urge Overkill, The Melvins, The Jesus Lizard, The Slits, The Wipers...I could go on. It's probably the pre-internet version of clicking "Find Similar Artists" on some band's last.fm (sucks) page. Kurt and Nirvana's patronage definitely gave Shonen Knife a wider audience, but I don't think they would have disbanded early...Naoko simply loved playing music too much. Her almost 30 year career proves it. Yes, it's too bad Kurt never got to hear more of SK – and I think we can blame his wife for that. (Yes, I do believe he was in fact murdered and it was staged to look like a suicide, but that's a whoooooole other topic, and you've probably fallen asleep reading this anyway...)

I think his wife was always too stoned to kill anyone! True – she was a heavy drug user back then (and probably still is). She was in Beverly Hills when Kurt died, but it's believed she "gave the orders"...El Duce, anyone?
