Jinny's still working the stages and their January to-do list, but momentarily
the big item is sugar'N'spice wrapping up their Milestone tour in Tokyo.
Hitomi and Chihiro went up to represent JinnyOops!.
Mitsuyo stayed home because not feeling so hot.
We went to Tokyo.
Shugaspa's tour finale
A one-man show
The tear glands let loose.
All the little things about touring together till now, thoughts about the girls,
going round in my head — misty-eyed. It was the best performance!
That was really great work.
Welcome back, congratulations and
I'll remember so, so much about today
After the show, izumi was tenderly trying to resurrect some of the wilted floral bouquets,
so Hitomi praised her care of JO!'s flowers, and… these girls just cannot stop stroking each other.
It's a JinnyOops! group trait, but also seems to be a feature of Osaka's messy, disorganized
music environment. Bands look after their friends, because who else will?
Mitsuyo had quite a lot to say about it in her diary, so I took a little trouble to make
an earlier posting of hers accessible. I think it's worth reading because of what
it reveals about the scene.

MOTTAINAI TOUR 12th
7.19 Ikebukuro Adm Ninth Generation Plum Rain Shogun
JinnyOops! × sugar'N'spice (O.G Bray me)
Bray me, embellished with "O.G", gave a top performance.
In another 5 years, these girls will be like us. A superlative band.
I want to do more together.
For reference, here's where JinnyOops! was 6 years ago (on their second trip to the United States).
Bands that are even younger look up to Bray me, but they haven't got a SXSW that's hungry for
j-rock working for them.

OK, moving right along...

Basically, a JinnySpa one-man
Well… it was a huge day.
Look here
The times and so on
Stage entrances and exits are frenetic
Yo! chatterboxes
Let's move it already
Actually... sorry, Ikebukuro Adm
And furthermore, thank you
Ishibashi very nearly came down off the stage
Beyond words, the expression of feelings bursting out
Music that I like — good
Experience shared with comrades — good
I never thought the day would come when I'd
perform our own songs at a center hand-mic

AKAN I almost cried
Yaruyaru! Things that were lightly said
In the first place, apart from Jinny I have no band experience at all
(although I've done a bit with "for fun" bands)
At the 10th anniversary of a favorite band
Standing in place of K – it's a difficult position for me to be in
Thinking I might do something to offend the Babies, the conflict was awful
But the sound of the Shugaspa trio – I felt it pushing against my back – the Babies
(Shugaspa fans) cheered us really warmly, it gave me an inexpressible feeling
Watching Shugaspa from center-stage where I was standing – experiencing them –
I also came to love these girls
The enormous power these Yamato women possess – you could feel it pounding
Come back soon, K! Everyone's looking forward to it so much!
However their colors change, bands of the same generation are of a single mind
Everyone onstage for the last performance
A festival, it's a festival
sugar'N'spice feat. the whole crew, "Boys & Girls" full chorus
The audience and all the performers in a fantastic completion of the evening!
Big success!!
Once K returns to retake her throne, look out
Following Jinny-Spa two-man shows are going to be
AKANEveryone who didn't come this time, definitely please come for the experience next time
I want to do fun things – let's pursue it
Best regards to everyone in future from JinnySpa, rock'n'roll!
I truly thank you

ASSORTED STUFF
→ I think O.G must be club manager shorthand for "opening group".
Original Ganstas they're not.
→ When K was in the hospital, JinnyOops! pulled a double shift on previously scheduled
two-man shows, *and* put in some additional appearances on sugar'N'spice
album tour dates in danger of cancellation (not good!)
→ sugar'N'spice is just "Shugaspa" to their fans, known collectively as the Babies.
→ "Ninth Generation Plum Rain Shogun" is IDKW. Sounds like a fancy name for
a concert series in the rainy season.
→ Ishibashi, "Stonebridge", is vo/gt. Mitsuyo's family name.
→
Yaruyaru cynically refers to unsecured promises of future performance.
"I'll do this, I'll do that". Politicians commit
yaruyaru all the time.
→
AKAN (明かん) is Kansai regional slang I don't really get. The dictionary def is
"useless/worthless/hopeless", but Mitsuyo uses it to mean the opposite.
It seems related to local rules about which discarded tiles are "dead"
in Mahjong, and that's all I can tell you.

Yamato invokes the mythic nobility of the Japanese people in the ancient
Yamato period. The ones who were ethnically Yamato, anyway.
Bray me, show-opening rock gruntsBray me is a young girls' rock band from Fujinomiya, an historic township on the instep of Mt. Fuji.
Though it's only 90 minutes out of Tokyo, a lot of Fujinomiya's economy revolves around the
big mountain itself and the forests that surround its lower slopes.
They like to identify as
inakamono, country folk — Japanese hillbillies.
They're a bit like a rougher version of Scandal. Unlike Scandal, all the lead vocals
come out of one mouth, belonging to guitarist Kotani.
Above, the current band promo on a painted apron at a rail station in the hills.
Below, 2016 July 17 at Shizuoka UMBER. Or should that be "lumber".
The four members met when they entered middle school. They started a band called Brave Jackass,
and were still middle-schoolers when they first played in front of people, 2008.
Bassist Chamaki quit in the fall of 2011, and for a few months the remaining trio was known as
meme. When Chamaki came back in 2012, they reformed under the blended name, Bray me.
Otherwise, it's been a steady march year by year, till now they've released 4 singles and
2 mini-albums, and they're familiar in clubs and on radio in their native Shizuoka Prefecture.
They've started experimenting with twitcasting.
The release tour for their new mini-album
FINE LATER is starting right away. Warming up for
sugar'N'spice and JinnyOops! this summer was a kind of warmup for them, too.
They got enthusiastically praised, and — social gaffe — didn't make anything of the opportunity
to return the elders' compliments. They'll learn as they go.
