I'll just note that my shaky plans to heroically make the last live date in Cambridge have turned to dust, so no Knife for me this tour. Never mind, I'm over it. .·´¯`(>▂<)´¯`·. If you haven't looked lately, the tour blog is updated and the photos curated. The Woodward looks like a nice, nice hall. Do as Naoko says, and get over for a look. SK *never* stops enjoying American stuff that I feel I should rightly apologize for. I like to look at the comments in Japanese, because they're never quite the same as the English version. Sometimes it's as if there are polite remarks for the host country, and then the more personal reaction for those reading along at home. When Naoko says, "I found this dress," it tempts you to imagine that she walked away with a salmon-pink boudoir set in a discreet bag. Attagirl, Naoko! But the JP version says, "I took a walk looking for clothing," which is so neutral it sounds like a rueful joke. I wanted clothes to wear, and I found this. Anyway, that outfit could only hinder a chocolate-consuming lifestyle. Emi's conflicts with American hostelry got another chapter in Louisville, when the cleaning crew seemingly barged in on her before she was even out of bed in the morning. This is not an isolated incident. If you forget the hang-tag, they pound on your door, throw it open before you can even make it to the entryway, and when they see they've disturbed a guest they just say "sorry" and move on like it was nothing. What the!? Once they even disregarded the DO NOT DISTURB door hanger. Can you believe these people? She winds it up, "Osorubeshi! Amerika no hausukīpingu!!!" TERRIBLE! AMERICAN HOUSEKEEPING!!! Three exclamation points. Sorry, Emi, we're a nation of bacon-loving barbarians.

I know I'm missing out by not being able to read the Japanese part of the Tour Blog and tweets. Sometimes I battle with translation software and find out more than is revealed in the brief English posts, but I suspect that even translations don't tell the whole story. I'd been wondering if Naoko had said "I found this dress," in a WTF sort of way with vague mutterings about barbarians and their weird clothing. I see from Atsuko's posts that she still finds the American way of doing things a little strange. But when she says that Emi is "Shaped like a cupcake" in one of the pictures she posted, I think she means it in the polite Japanese way... But then, she does look good enough to eat.

LOL, I don't know if that remark can be made polite enough to avoid getting smacked in *any* language! but luckily for Atsuko, she was talking about a tapering stack of summer cumulus cloud in the photo just above! I know, i know, the eye always goes straight to the image of Emi. I don't think there's an upscale mall anywhere in America with a shop window that could shock a Japanese. If we have any goods like that, they were imported from Asia, oh the irony. Sentence translation software has to be so incredibly stupid about rudiments of grammar and syntax because it is, well, stupid. Stupid, and fast at looking up things that a global network of computers could notice and make statistical correlations about. Google's service puts everything else I know to shame for turning blocks of Japanese into English, and it is amazingly aware of Internet slang and technical vocabulary. But it still makes word salad out of everything. It's a discussion for the Learn Japanese thread, maybe...

If we have any goods like that, they were imported from Asia, oh the irony. I'd been reading that article which Lazybone had shared the link to. The first thing it mentioned was about Japanese people commenting on a person's weight, and how its a normal thing to do and means that "they care enough to take notice of your health". Well, Emi has been eating a lot of ice-cream on this tour - and who can blame her? But she did say that on the last US tour, she'd gained a fair bit of weight and so for this tour she has brought along her own set of scales to keep an eye on her weight. Oh, and about the tacky outfit Naoko commented on, sure they make all that stuff in Asia - but they ship it to the west!!!

Emi looks a lot thinner than the last time I saw her. She looked great last year, just the right combination of thin and of not as thin, where each looked best!

Ritsuko may be on maternity leave and so not able to join the tour, but her bass Ginji (Silver Boy) is taking part. Atsuko has also brought her own beautiful bass on the tour.

Ritsuko may be on maternity leave and so not able to join the tour, but her bass Ginji (Silver Boy) is taking part... Till Naoko swapped in her Platinum Sparkle DRG in Atlanta she was soldiering on with her trusty Rebel Rockit Supernova. But Atsuko has been carrying Ginji seemingly just for luck. How are Super Girl bassists supposed to know what brand to look up to? JUST CUT ME SOME SLACK HERE Ritsuko fans may enjoy knowing that "silver boy" is a mildly amusing pun in Japanese. The usual way of writing Ginji as a name is 「銀次」and it's just... a unisex name-name. If you think of it as a compound, it breaks down to silver + next-in-line, or "silver heir." If instead you write 「銀児」you've written "silver + boy (actually, very young human or animal offspring)". Ginji again, but this time it means what Ricchan says it does. This is cute. Cute and really nerdy. Try hauling that one out at the 40th anniversary reunion party!

Link to Atsuko bathed in curaçao blue in NYC at Poisson Rouge. http://instagr.am/p/4RuLzOBHB7 Candidate for best tweet of tour: Aaaannd... we're out! Nice work everybody! Emi, it's been real, let us know where you end up. Let me have a copy of that one with everybody, OK? Thanks. Call a car, we can still make it to Trina's in time for a hotdog. Naoko, you have to try this hotdog. . . . .

The NYC show was so good. The band was very tight.
The two big stories were of course our last look at Emi and the return of Atsuko.
Emi once again astonished me with how powerful, fast and cleanly she plays the drums. Big loss to SK. Excited to see what is next, but still sad.
I hadn't see Atsuko play bass before and I was very impressed with how articulated all the bass lines were. They stayed for the most part with the old songs (with a few from Overdrive). She played them all very accurately and was getting a lovely tone from her instrument. She was "large and in-charge" as we say.
Without being rude, she looked lovely in the Mondrian SK uniform. She really has kept her youthful figure and I found her quite beautiful standing there in her rock warrior pose and taking care of business.
It was her enthusiasm that really won over the audience. She looked so happy to be there and it all looked so natural for her to be there.
I've always though that SK needs to be a 4 piece band. She needs to be a part of it somehow.
