They sound pretty good.
I wonder why the lead singer sounds like a guy?

They sound pretty good. I wonder why the lead singer sounds like a guy? Are you sure "she's" NOT a guy? The Japanese just LOVE crossdressing bands...have you ever seen "Gakt" and his band of girly boys, for instance?

Social media has really glammed these guys up a lot. I remember them all in denim looking like they'd just been throwing hay bales into feed racks. And not really smiling, either! Now they've got sophisticated eye shadow with their matching septum piercings.

This is old, but still valid so I'm moving it here to get rid of the redundant Akabane Vulgars thread. The Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass play straight, mid-tempo punkabilly and garage/blues-rock you can dance to, without the show-biz glitz of a Brian Setzer production. Great instrumentals, and a lead singer in a class by herself. Reno's loss is YouTube's gain. Tonight The Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass are celebrating Miki's birthday as they wind up their 10- or 12-city "A Chain Rapture" Tour of the US in Manhattan, downstairs at The Delancey. They are a band New Yorkers can really embrace. When Yumi shouts THANK YOU, I want to say, you're welcome don't hurt me.

More, more, more. Semi-Official Band Profile, Edited:
The Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass are an all-girl blues/punk-rock trio formed in Tokyo in 2005.
Since SXSW 2012, they have twice toured the US (self-managed; 2015 will be 3x). Their sound kills people, and makes them vibrate. So they sometimes get reviewed [as] far from J-Rock, or get compared to Shonen Knife, or described as an emerging new-generation band who renew your impression of J-rock.
But as the band says, "the sure thing is that most of our spirit comes from punk." If there's a liability, it's in the area of a stand-out image hook to build popularity. Glossy J-Pop sells, and these girls are the opposite, they're gritty and bluesy. So they have to look far and wide for audience. They hit the US after Korea. Their Indiegogo project to finance album production came nowhere near its funding goal, but their explanation of it was very candid. They're completely self-supporting, and having no money is not as livable as it was 10 years ago. They've got my total admiration for going their own road with so much character. And their records really rock β nearly 100% original tunes. The Akabanes like little teaser video clip made with a phone (more than I do). instagram.com/akabane_vulgars/Sister-bassist Miki is the shy onePeople adore this band not just for how they play, but for how cool they are as human beings. By "people," I mean me and others. You can hear everything they've published to date at Bandcamp ( http-theakabanevulgars.bandcamp-com ) but at least to begin with, payments weren't going through correctly. And half their old video links at Facebook have died. How indie is that? :-| Drummer Kei Sofue had a birthday on the 15th of May. https://instagram.com/p/BFeCXj5OA10 I found their 2012 SXSW profile. Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass event listingThat's their recent past. Nowadays their whole demeanor is much happier!
