As in the case of SK, I'll begin with how I got into anime (Well, it's the first night and we have to start somewhere ) Strangely, I got into anime by a complete accident, i was looking to finish my collection of LOST IN SPACE comics in a shop in Hamilton, and there on the shelf was this weird magazine (Protoculture Addicts) with weird looking girls on the cover wearing something between a gym leotard and a miniskirt...they turned out to be the Sailor Soldiers (Sailor Moon, et al). Now, I didnt buy the magazine that time, nor the next month, but, by the third month, I was soooo curious that I finally bought it and the newest issue, just to see what it was......and that got things started. Eventually, I decided to try a manga, just to see what might be interesting, and bought Ranma 1/2 which seemed to be a fan fave in the magazine (I thought Ranma was a girl at the time, cause I came into it during the "Cat tongue" arc , when Ranma couldnt change! ;D) Anyway, about that time a new comic store opened much closer to me and they rented out anime, so, i began again with Ranma 1/2 , and the rest is history! (It probably took me about 2 years to get used to the "Girly eyes" though!)

I got into anime from a friend in high school. At the time, I was still in high school and my friend told me I should watch "Sailor Moon". I did and I loved it! (still do!) I'm glad she introduced me to "Sailor Moon". I'm not into much anime, but I do like "Sailor Moon" and the "Powerpuff Girls". (I don't know if you'd consider them anime or not, some people do.)

I love Sailor moon also...although, I can't watch the dubbed version anymore...and i hate it when people call the Senshi "Sailor Scouts" ( Barf ) As for PowerPuff Girls, I don't consider it an anime , thought it is deffinately anime-inspired (And yes, I kind of like it ), on the other hand, Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z* IS anime....I wonder if they will ever show it here! *A Japanese show based on the PPGs , only, these girls are middle schoolers, not sisters and "transform" in the same way that most anime "magical girls" do! www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR9BqayG85k

Hmmmm Sailor Moon. A looong time ago there was talk of creating an American version of the show. The girls were actually going to be live action, until they had to transform into the sailors. I actually did a TON of work on the show.. primarily on the shots where they are transforming. They shot the girls on blue screen, with a turntable.. so they would stike their pose.. and spin... I had to replace the backgrounds with what the art director refered to as "girl space" which means sparkley stars and ribbons and bubbles.. pink nebulea.. you get the idea. There were also several close up shots, for instance a real hand changing into a cartoon etc. Close ups on each girls faces morphing.
The pre-production went on and onn.. several major changes were made, several voice talent came and went, and the longer it went on, the worse the show became. By the end one of the Sailors was in a wheelchair! ( I had to design a futuristic flying space wheelchair )
So long story short, the show never made it on air ( or a single episode in the can ), and I got stiffed. Never even got reimbursed for a bunch of flights and hotels! Oh well.. you live you learn.

( P.S. I rescently was in touch with that Art Director, who says he still has a lot of the shots on hard disk, but it's an Amiga format disk, and his Amiga is dead. Luckily, I have a dozen working Amigas in my shop. Hopefully sometime soon I'll have images or video I can post.)

Wow the fabled American Sailor Moon live show still exists, besides the short "change scene" that's posted online?
That was one of the first things I learned about Julie, that she'd worked on that show,...but, this is new! yup yup

Remember I told you I was working on a computer for " the Simpsons guy"? He was also art director on that Sailor Moon thing. I'd mentioned to him the we'd discussed having me try to resurrect his Amigas, and he said that there was a "probability" that the Sailor Moon stuff was on one of them. This would NOT be a show or anything, just the SFX shots we did on the computer.
