P5's breezy Y2K brushoffSo long Century XX, we'll always be friends, I'm out This song is their end-of-the-century salute, couched as a Parisian sophisticate's kiss-off to a lover who, alas, is no longer convenient. No regrets, cheri. Clever, they made it work with their worldly, nostalgic image. They're getting separated from the century that gave them all their inspiration. But it resonates a little more because P5 were running out of time themselves. Even though they wouldn't announce their breakup for another nine months or so, this is like a rehearsal for dumping each other and the fans as well. GOODBYE BABY & AMEN - PIZZICATO FIVE2015 DEC 16 by cuscusdepan (04:53) PIZZICATO FIVE PLAYS "GOODBYE BABY & AMEN"From what turned out to be P5's final TV special, later titled "Happy End Of The Band: BS Fuji Studio Last Sessions" (2000 MAR, released on their Readymade Records box set, The Band of 20th Century, 2004 MAR) Maki Nomiya: vocal & presiding spirit Konishi Yasuharu: bucket hat & bass Guest vocal by Takao Tajima, who sang on the album track. And with some other fine-looking individuals. From their last record for Matador: Pizzicato Five - Goodbye Baby & Amen2011 OCT 31 by 4musiclovers (06:24) Album: The Fifth Release From Matador (2000) My version of the lyrics. The one by Andrei Cunha you see everywhere is more what I call fan fiction than a direct translation. P5 are not always easy to get, when you have to decide by ear whether they are using Japanese, English, or French. ĀMEN ne is not really the same as "& Amen" but what kind of world is it if you can't name your own song. This recording…

Two slightly surreal songs from television in 1998Pizzicato Five2013 MAR 01 by Yuji Nakao (11:05) 00:00 "Miss Pizzicato Five" introduction (with bowler hat and cane) 00:42 " The Night is Still Young" 03:18 Break for awkward soft-shoe dance duet 05:26 Maki and Konishi make small-talk about their segment 06:38 " Such a Beautiful Girl Like You" 09:30 Break to distribute favors; K hands out one by one, M scatters The last two songs of a live in-studio appearance recorded on July 11, 1998 for Fuji Television's FACTORY 721, ep. #0041 " Konishi's Selection Live" Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, Buffalo Daughter and others were also featured. www.fujitv.co.jp/FACTORY/CS0041/selection.htmlThe refrain of "The Night is Still Young" is literally, "It's Tokyo, 7:00 in the evening," expressed in nostalgic language underscoring that the whole evening is ahead. Too bad the plans are completely shot. In the lyrics, the reference to Christmas is calculated, since at that time of year the national threat of loneliness is at its height. The song was released to radio in December 1993.

NHK POP JAM live at NHK Hall – 1998 (?)One show, three angles on Shibuya-kei Cornelius / Pizzicato Five / Kahimi Karie2015 DEC 06 by Tlgani Hlqunar (24:17) I re-uploaded it. There is image instability with noise. There's also another [ rip ] of Oyamada-san. And at times the sound quality is dismal. The problems would be the only reason NHK TV has not filed a copyright claim against this recording. The better ones are all gone. 00:00 Cornelius: talk segment 18:22 Cornelius: "Moon Walk" 06:31 P5: "SUPER TALK" talk segment – America vs Germany 08:44 P5: "Kanashii uta (Triste)" with audience clap-a-long 12:53 Kahimi Karie: talk segment intro (in progress) 14:14 Kahimi Karie: "One Thousand 20th Century Chairs" Then the alternate captures of the same episode: 16:44 Cornelius: talk segment 18:22 Cornelius: "Moon Walk" This was taped sometime in the first quarter of 1998, I think. Different as they are, the three featured acts all know each other, are into the same things (60's pop/funk, Serge Gainsbourg, nouvelle vague cinema) and have collaborated at various times. Cornelius (Keigo Oyamada) has contributed guitar to P5 recordings, and has also written and produced for Kahimi Karie. Funny the effect dorky but dangerous Cornelius has on the strategically placed schoolgirls. He actually feels like a loose cannon on prime-time TV. P5 seem jumpy talking to motor- mouth host Hiroko Moriguchi. Konichi destroys "ich liebe dich" to illustrate. Ghost tambourine on "Triste". K and M wisely don't try to convince you they're doing anything but miming with their horns. Francophile Kahimi Karie is sort of an It Girl this year. She's in photobooks, magazines, on TV, and will tour Japan and the US as "KK Girly Action Tour '98".

NOEL and GALLAGHER, "back to back DJs" for upscale parties. I don't even know what to say about their name parasitism. Look at the fashionistas in their 20s keeping up with Miss Maki. Her style is absolute and unconquerable. I could spend every minute of every day trying to understand how it works. 〜〜〜 To appreciate how bizarre marketing gets in Japan, just realize that this is a DJ party in a high-class cafe and restaurant with a view, in mid-town Tokyo, near the Roppongi transit station. Google reviewers love the place for coffee and slacking off. On offer are pricey menu items, related upscale consumer goods, and of course, imported Mercedes Benz automobiles. The entertainment and lifestyle aspects may pay for themselves, but the place only exists to get your affluent car-loving butt into a maximum brand support and demand generation environment for Mercedes. If you want to order a car to go, I guess that's OK with them, too. www.mercedes-benz-connection.com/english/
