Mikado prepare to be jealous, very jealous. Mika Bomb played an absolutely blistering set! They were/are hotter than a million suns. How does this new all girl version compare to the previous mixed gender version? To be honest this was the first time I’d seen MB so I can’t really made a comparison. As thegl0r says it was a small, sweaty back room in a pub (you can keep your stadiums and concerts halls this is where real punk happens) that was totally packed by the time MB came on. Doors opened at 1945 hrs and I was straight inside. The ticket / hand stamping guy asked who I’d come to see ‘Mika Bomb!’ Duh!! He duly wrote it down on his list. First band were on stage 1950 hrs ~ sorry can’t remember their name, but were quite good. They were followed by Lord Numb (best support band of the evening) good straight up hard hitting rock. They were followed by the Beautiful Game, also good. The lead singer dedicated one song to thegl0r himself saying ‘The guy in the green t shirt and beard, you look beautiful!’ I did remark to thegl0r that I thought he’d pulled. Final band was Ronda, from Hamburg, lead singer seemed very nice & smiled at me twice. The bass player seemed to be really into the performance. No matter how good these bands were I was just itching to see MB. Whilst watching these bands I could see the gorgeous Mel Roxy standing off to the left in the audience enjoying the bands. My first sweet glimpse of a Mika Bomber! MB took to the stage at about 2300 hrs. Someone pushed inbetween myself and thegl0r and climbed up on to the stage, none other than Mika Handa herself. Yes, I and thegl0r made actual physical contact with Mika Handa herself!! I will never wash that shirt again. I was up so close on occasions I could actually feel Mika Handa’s breath on my face. A fantastic, blistering none stop set. Contact Tokyo, Cadillac, Shut Ya Mouth, Osaka, Stick Around Jo, 9-5ers, Garage Superstars, Boomeranka, Hey Man, Have a Bad Day, Rock Out, Hellcats, Super Sexy, Magic Boots. For the last two songs original drummer Ergi got up on to the stage. The sense of good will towards him was almost palpable. What an amazing drummer! Also a young Asian guy took over bass duties for the last two songs. The four girls came back for an encore of Heart Attack. They left the stage at approx. midnight. What an amazing gig! Did I need to change my underpants? Almost! By the time MB came on stage two cute and I think very drunk Japanese girls appeared to my immediate left and generally jumped about like only drunk Japanese girls can. The cuter of the two was rubbing a very cute posterior against my nether regions (I don’t think she realized, not that I minded). Many times during the gig I just couldn’t believe that one of my favourite J Punk bands were actually there right in front of me performing. After the gig was over MB were off the stage and disappeared into the crowd. No merch table, no band signing, no Agi, oh well, can’t have it all. I did speak briefly to Ergi and shook his hand. He was as everyone says he is, a really nice bloke. He got thegl0r to photograph him with a mate. I did comment to thegl0r that we’d probably missed the tube, which he commented quite correctly that it was worth it. Outside the venue I saw Emiko chatting to some friends & I couldn’t resist telling her to come back again soon. ‘Where,’ she asked ‘Here?’ ‘Anywhere!’ I replied. ‘The UK,’ said the thegl0r. She then blew us two intrepid forum members a kiss. Oh yeah! What a way to end a brilliant night. And, yes, we did make the tube. Thegl0r Morden via Bank, myself Morden via Charing Cross. The tube at midnight, now that’s another story altogether. I think some dude Weller may have written a pop song about it? I was so excited dawn was almost breaking before I fell asleep! Mika Bomb, if you ever read this, thank you WE LOVE YOU!! Don’t leave it another six years! And finally, play some gigs in Canada, I know one guy who is dying to see you!!! Am I right Mikado!!

Oh man, you guys must have had a hell of a time! Everything from Mikabomb to a drunk Japanese girl rubbing up on you (Maybe I need to move to the UK ) Mika sure knows how to fill a mini skirt, doesn't she? As for comparing A-G Mikabomb to mixed-sex MB, I was asking you to compare the music from the old recordings, not necessarily to them in concert. I'm surprised they didn't bring any albums; but then again, I think their stuff is out of print and their record company is selling left over stock
