Just got last week Space Battleship Yamato the movie. Maybe you remember it as the Anime Series Star Blazers ? Yamato the Anime Series has ran for years in Japan. The movie was good...Over done and cooked drama as with any Japanese movie...It took the series and crushed it into a 2+ hour movie that moved along... Thumbs up ! Thats Japanese version Im Sure Hollywood will kill it ! Hollywood is doing Spaceship Yamato??? OUCH!!!

It's really quite nice for a recent TV series. A lot of prestige was at stake. If not for Vice Admiral Okita, we'd be concerned about loss of the entire fleet. But as it's the Yamato, total sacrifice is expected and desired! It always makes me a bit melancholy to see Japan trying to rewrite 1945, or at least pull something to idealize out of that decade. The premise for this story is the then-prevailing crazy scenario that, with our backs to the wall, the only choice is to fight to the last man, woman, child, house pet. Nostalgia over battles lost. That and the usual girl-mania are the twin engines behind Kantai Collection, too. Their Pluto agrees pretty well with NASA's from orbit!

Yeah, haha -- there's no off switch, but it does have forward, reverse, and park.

Hasn't been my fortune to see DD in person. But I live on the home ground of the very mighty Mermen, and right now I have on an all-instrumental album by the Mono Men.
The Mono Men - Mr. Eliminator 2012 JUL 18 by MMCMHC (02:08) From Shut The F#©k Up! (1993)
Instrumental cover of the 1964 Dick Dale tune. No vocals, no harmonica, no country picking. Just smoking tires, so better turn it up.

Taylor... Swift... those are trucking companies, right? Am I missing something here?
All I know is Jimi Hendrix is gone, but surf music is still here!

Sure, I see no conflict.
Cowboys & Country Music in Japan! 2011 JUL 28 by GaijinGuide (05:15, starts at 02:00) I randomly happened upon a performance of country music by Japanese cowboys and cowgirls from all over Kyushu Japan. They played Johnny Cash to John Denver and the crowd all line danced to these classic country songs.
Take me home, country load.

Hank Sr. — Howdy Hank, come on in, what can I get you? Hank Jr. — Son, you're not seriously bringing that hat in here, are you?

When have the Japanese ever not taken western culture and morphed it into a New idea ~ Its not copied - It more becomes an offshoot with its own life ! Yeah — totally. It's classicism. Same as, I dunno, ballet. They see something great and study what it's about till they can do it too. Then it takes root and they make their own from the inside out. Who's a great original prima ballerina? Does Pavlova count? How'd Pavlova get to be Pavlova? By copying the template till she owned it. After that, it was all hers for awhile.
