This is the page where you can talk about anything pertaining to Michie Nakatani, former SK bass player and founding member I'll start: Like many long-time fans of the Knife, of all the former members, Michie is the one I miss the most; her fuzzzzzzzz base and whacky songs MADE the early sound of the Knife! I truly hope she is happy, in whatever she is doing now.... She had the prettiest eyes!!!!

As much as I'd love to see her perform live as part of a 30th anniversary tour, what I REALLY miss is her songwriting talent; she should try doing it as a sideline, Naoko seems to be running out of ideas and could use a hand

Generally speaking, I prefer long hair on women, but, in Michie's case, short hair suited her better (Because she has a bit of a round face)

Michie completely was off the radar scope after Shonen Knife. Seeing she is an only Child the responsibilty of taking care of her parents and that after 18 years 1981 to 1999 with Shonen Knife was her tour of Duty. She decided to leave and we have to accept that.
We all think of her and hope some day our bass player will wave and say I do Exist !
We think of you Michie all the time !

Pete 712 Yep; she seemed to be the most popular member of the band, back in the day, and, it seems she's just as loved by Knife Collectors, as ever!

Makes me sad that Michie has decided to keep out of all the 30th Anniversary celebrations I think she looks particularly beautiful on this pic!

I've probably only been listening to Shonen Knife since around the time of Genki Shock, then didn't get seriously into them until around 2011, and first live in 2012. But man, Michie's songs certainly resonate with me more than Naoko's for the most part. Just wondered if the above was her actual reason for leaving? I've always wondered and never thought of asking what the reason was 'til now. You'd think she'd have still appeared for some one-off shows/anniversaries in all this time... are the rest of the band even in contact?

When I asked Atsuko about it, she told me that Michie wasn't even answering the emails they sent her.

Check out this article from 1990 - Michie's US tour diary. The end of the article mentions Michie flying back to Boston to see her in-laws. Maybe Michie's still in Boston? Hmm

Now the question is, who was Michie's husband? (I heard they divorced, but, I haven't been able to confirm anything.)

I had a ridiculous dream of running into Michie in a cafe on Newbury Street, in Boston's Back Bay.
Means nothing, it was a dream. I guess I am frustrated about that.
It's one thing to walk away from a career and admiring fans. Hiding completely is something else again. There's no need for it!

To me, something happened between Naoko and Michie... if I had to make a guess, it may be that Michie was upset that about Naoko getting pregnant, while her marriage, was falling apart. But, I'm only speculating here. (Remember what happened to Etsuko when she got pregnant?)
