I think they would be more famous already if they were not quite so hellbent on having their own way. I look forward to this Damnably compilation a huge, big, lot.

I am enjoying the Okoshiyasu!! Otoboke Beaver right now. Well, enjoy is not enough of a word, I am having OB do their comp album to me and it is a fast ride so far. The DL is a nice package. The only shortfall is, it would be hard to collect an autograph on a PDF booklet. Undated appearance at Kobe's Helluva Lounge, from the WEST DETECTORS 2 private Livedoor blog. In November 2011, the text talked about lunch at a Korean restaurant near Kakogawa Station in Kobe.OB seem… they seem like girls who are looking for something. Something like blood. I would call this a war party. They have come for what's theirs. I think this is their concept of love. The lead guitar has found a tone that's just like a sharp stick in the right ear. There's a lot of phrase repetition, like driving nails. You are the nail. It's hardcore inside a quirky-pop wrapper inside a fast/loud delivery. So, a roll of quarters in a furry hot-pink mitten, wrapped in a bike chain. Just finished. Pedal on the floor all the way. As pleased fate, the next song to come up in iTunes was a gentle, ingenuous feeble, girly little song from BMX Bandits and it was like the channel suddenly switched from Deathrace 2000 to the Teletubbies. This is only a first hearing, okay?

Sales momentum! I certainly don't mind doing my small part. Otoboke Beaver Bakuro Book page at BandcampOkoshiyasu!! Otoboke Beaver is up there as well, both as a digital download and as a signed or plain CD in a jewel case. The signed package is an edition of 50 at a £10 premium, which is £2.50 per person. Like buying coffee and crullers for the band.

Lead guitar & vox Accorinrin's birthday was Monday, d'oh. Meanwhile, Bakuro Book is out — three more furious songs from a dangerously unhinged garage band. The Japanese CD's first pressing comes with printed sticker and deluxe mystery fiber hand towel. I didn't get those with my downloaded FLACs. The towel, I gather, is a special pain-in-the-butt perk, one of several for purchases over the counter in retail stores. It's very like OKOSHIYASU with the crashy-smashy mix and the runaway, barely holding it together singing and playing. Since demented girl gangs are a thing of mine, I could hardly be happier. You think they're about to melt down and fall apart at any second, but they never quite do. They've learned to do crazy in a highly disciplined way. Awesome! Plugging the product at the Osaka ABC radio affiliate, AM1008 / FM93.3 on March 15.There was a one-hour Ustream video of the band interviewing on the Tuesday night Yona Yona show, but that's gone now. They were fun, nervous, and polite. The hosts obviously enjoyed having them, and you could see staff tiptoeing around for a look.

2016 March 23 – Otoboke Beaver one-man show at Taku-Taku in Kyoto, by AlltoZ event photography of Osaka.
The name Taku-Taku is 2x 磔, which is the kanji for crucifixion, so good energy for any family-oriented band. I sometimes get the sense that Kyoto feels like it's got something to prove.

Otoboke Beaver – pre-tour interview and EP reviewWritten by Ioan Humphreys for the Louder Than War blog 2016 April 11 louderthanwar.com/otoboke-beaver-pre-tour-interview-ep-review/Lazy comparisons would put you in the same camp as Shonen Knife. That is ok! I like Shonen Knife! But I would describe you as a less abrasive and a more tuneful Melt Banana? Sonically, I think you have a lot more going on than SK, and straddle the noise of MB on tiptoes to create a perfect balance! Do you agree?Huh? To be frank, comparisons to SK are just horrendously unhelpful. They're both indie guitar bands full of girls from somewhere in Japan. That's about it, as far as intents and outcomes are concerned. Melt Banana makes a little more sonic sense, but... no. Art Noise and a perverted sense of humor is not much like OB either. They're more over-educated garage, with revenge or death for a motive and a brick on top of the throttle. Let's Take Picture With Us! Otoboke Beaver freezing their butts off for publicity in lightweight mini-dresses on a gray November day.The earlier article referred to by Ioan is here: louderthanwar.com/new-artist-day-otoboke-beaver/Neither the girlfriend or the dog likes them. However, Louder Than War’s Ioan Humphreys just loves Otoboke Beaver.

When they hook up together on 05 May in Nottingham, it will not be the first time Otoboke Beaver and Shonen Knife have played on one bill. The first was when SK graciously guested at OB's 2013 record release party, all the way in Kyoto. This was for their first album, Mokugeki! Love-Me Sign on the Riot label, made and released while they were all still at University. Accorinrin says: Annnd soooo ~ please come to Otoboke Beaver's record release!!! March 22 (Friday) @ Kyoto METRO w/ Shonen Knife Also appearing: Nejiume Tassi and Memory Ensemble ¥2000As Shonen Knife told in the official blog: From Naoko Friday, March 22nd @kyoto MetroOn 2013 March 30 (Saturday) shonenknife.net/blog/archives/12956We played in Kyoto at the album release party for an all female band called “Otoboke Beaver”. They are cute, fresh young girls.Naoko said they were full of energy in the photo.Tallest at right rear behind Ritsuko is original bassist Chi Nishikawa (西川ち) who left sometime later that year. On both of the autographed copies of the poster that were photographed, Shonen Knife drew little pasties over the bare nipples when they signed. Knowing who SK were supporting, Naoko planned accordingly: I tried to make a little unique set for this Kyoto show which consisted of all Hard & Heavy numbers. We’ve ever played the similar set last January at a release party of “AlReady Yours”. The set is …
1. Tomato Head 2. Economic Crisis 3. Muddy Bubbles Hell 4. Buddha’s Face 5. Pyramid Power 6. Flu 7. Giant Kitty 8. Cobra Versus MongooseShe observed that she's got a hundred tunes to choose from ("my production rate is fairly low, but... I've been doing it a long time"), and thanked OB and its staff for sharing their stage. From Ritsuko 3/22 Kyoto MetroOn 2013 April 05 (Friday) www.shonenknife.net/blog/archives/12964Diplomatically, Ritsuko described the poster as "a distinctive design!!" That's one way to say "gratuitous enigmatic underground sexual fetish image".It was a nostalgic scene for Ritsuko. The members of Otoboke Beaver were just about to have their University graduation, and Rittchan went to school in Kyoto herself. She played at Metro when she was a student, too. Different standard styles of presentation for the cameraR's lunch was an Okinawan fried octopus rice patty. Emi's blog writing was pretty spotty in those days. She didn't record the event. Since she went to exactly the same school and belonged to the same music club, it's a cinch she was having her own flashbacks, too.

Typical Otoboke Beaver noticesThese are some of the ones they cite for PR purposes. Otoboke Beaver Make Their UK Debut This SpringBy Nameless Slave Writer for the Electric Bloom Webzine 06 MARCH 2016 electricbloomwebzine.com/2016/03/otoboke-beaver-uk-debut.htmlCompared to the queercore sounds of NYC unit God Is My Co-Pilot and Osaka’s own noise punk lot Afrirampo, Otoboke Beaver (named after a love hotel) are influenced by western Riot Grrrl attitudes, with song themes mostly consisting of saying a big screw you to bad love, devious boyfriends and general sexism.Song of the Week: "Anata ga falling love shita no ha watashi ga kirai na onnanoko"by Carlos Benito for the El Correo blog (Spanish) 2016 February 12 blogs.elcorreo.com/evadidos/2016/02/12/cancion-de-la-semana-anata-ga-falling-love-shita-no-ha-watashi-ga-kirai-na-onnanoko/How could I deprive myself of putting up a Song of the Week with a title as amazing as this one? And the good part is that, once you learn it, you know much of the lyrics to the song, because they dedicate themselves to repeating it over and over in a Kyoto accent.
I would put them somewhere between their colleague-ettes Shonen Knife and the kamikazes Melt Banana, which is not a bad couple of references, although they often also cite the extravagant avant-garde screamers Afrirampo.Otoboke Beaver Okoshiyasu!! The OB-sans had a big Record Store Day on the 16th. During regular hours they played Tower Records in Kyoto. A real set, no corner-cutting as one said who went. In-store premiums & extras for supporters of indie record stores. Wait, Tower is a chain. Evening was a show at Kyoto Metro. No one is climbing on a stage monitor. They just kept their daywear on throughout. This is as far as their Japan schedule takes them, till they get back from the UK. Next stop is the Windmill for Walpurgis Nacht, taking place in the evening on May Day. Which is the actual nacht of nothing so romantic as St. Walpurga, being a day late. Everybody will be in off the Brocken well ahead of dawn already — 15, 16 hours earlier.

There's a small photo set on Facebook from the Bakuro Book launch day. Kyoto's Tower Records location. Not quite like this before or since.
