I finally did it! I booked a vacation to Japan! From may 10 to may 31, we travel from Fukuoka to Tokyo. By bus, boat, and even the Shinkansen! We don't visit Osaka, but I can live with that. After all, Shonen Knife will be playing in England at that time. If they maintain the same tour schedule as always, I will be back in time for their show(s) in the Netherlands. If you guys have any questions or advice, let me know. Sayonara! Attachments:

This is the route we will follow. We will visit a lot of temples and castles, but I'm also very exited about Akihabara in Tokyo, the heaven for fans of anime, manga, video-games, gadgets etc. I can hardly wait, I wish I could skip march and april! Attachments:

The waiting is killing me! It's still so far away! All I can do now is to prepare as best as possible. So I read and watch everything about Japan that I can find. Even a documentary about the tsunami two years ago. That's right, not just the fun stuff, but also the serious stuff, because I find that really important. And of course a lot about the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But don't worry, I still prefer the fun stuff! Like anime, Nintendo, sushi, Pokémon, manga, cosplay girls, J-rock and much more Japanese awesomeness!

Make sure you read up on etiquette to avoid accidentally behaving like an ass! For example don't use a cellphone while on public transport, this is considered very rude. I think eating while walking around the streets is considered rude, like walking along eating a bag of potato chips or a burger for example. There's weird things like when you go into a restaurant the higher your status the further you can sit from the door, so as a gaijin it'd be polite to sit near the door (unless someone shows you to a seat in which case sit in the seat you're offered). Check out The Japan Channel on youtube, specifically his "How To" playlist. The channel is run by an Australian guy who lives in Japan and he posts a lot of interesting videos. Thanks guys! If you have any more advice, keep on posting it! Well, if you plan to stay in any traditional Japanese inns, remember to wash outside of the bath; it is considered improper to get soap in the water

The waiting is almost over! Next week at this time, I will be sitting in the plane! Unfortunately, we don't fly straight to Fukuoka, but we will make a transfer in Hong Kong. So I will also be in China for the first time. And the same goes for the flight back to Amsterdam, so it will take much longer to get there Anyway, I started to pack my suitcase, and I bought a video camera, so I can capture the atmosphere a lot better than I can with a photo camera. And I will put most of the videos on youtube, for whoever is interested. If anyone has questions or advice? Let me hear!
