I found something amazing tonight, a FULL SK concert, online!!!!! (Incl 2 encores) The show was taped in Sydney Australia in 2009 (And thus features Etsuko on the drums); and the video is very well done with fantastic camera angles...the only thing is that the video isn't HD, but, the sound is perfect (And, isn't that what really counts?) www.moshcam.com/shonen-knife/the-annandale-hotel-664.aspxSo, if you are still waiting for your copy of SK live at the Mohawk, you can watch this in the meantime!

I ordered a SK-shirt via Damnably.com, and it was delivered today. And there was a handwritten note that says the band will play in Amsterdam on the 23rd of august and maybe in Utrecht on the 8th of september. (both in the Netherlands) But I could not find these dates on any website, so I'm one of the first to know! And they will play just like last year, a lot of shows in the UK.

Now that I think of it, those tour dates were not very useful to you guys, because I am (for as far as I know) the only European on this forum. Am I right?

You are it ! The last time I was in Europe was 1969 ! Pete 712 1969, my parents did not even met each other yet! Wich country(s) did you visit? Me and My Mom went to Holland ,Norway and England the summer of 68-69..not shure "really" Flew on a DC-8 from Kennedy Airport late at night. In holland we went to Ansterdam..rode on the tour boats in the canals...saw lot of people rolling joints and smoking pot ! guess in 1969 the drug laws didnt exist at all. Went on a bus tour out to some dikes where they were growing flowers..I think we were there a week. I guess the thing burned in my brain is we went to "Madoradam"? I could be wrong with the name but it was A working outdoor model of a city with a harbor and airport and all kinds of buildings ..Know of the place I was impressed as a kid..Possibly saw it now and would think its a joke... Flew to Stavanga Norway then to Bergen via A SAS DC-3 and stayed with an aunt who my mom summered with right after ww2 for a few summers. Possibly a week there...It rained alot in Bergen ! Then we went to england..We stayed at sombodies house and I dont have a clue were we were but it was fun... saw London and some old Castels Noticed in Norway that during the summer the sun was still out at 10 pm onthe horizon.. Hey this was 40+ years ago . remember alot but forgot alot too ! Pete 712

Thanks(?) I think*, for reminding me about this one. Yes it's a goodie. I agree with you that it's the sound that counts, and it is fairly good, not great. But at least it gets better. I almost find myself slipping into a rant about sound engineers. Especially the "in house" ones, surely they ought to know how to get the best sound in their venues, but.... Grr! I've been at gigs where the sound was awesome for the (local) support bands, but when Shonen Knife came on stage, it all went pants. For me, perhaps the best Shonen Knife gig that I've been to for sound quality was at The Deaf Institute in Manchester. ;D And the venue had a sprung floor - that place really was Rocking! One of my fave bits in this Moshcam gig is Naoko's solo in Muddy Bubbles Hell. I love her solo in that song and she got it so close to the recorded version I was almost disappointed. It's great that she has the confidence to stretch herself when she knows she might not quite make it. For me it's the little imperfections that make their live performances perfect. There is a Japanese term for that sort of thing , but I forget what it is just now. Imperfect memory. Oh, now I remember, it's "wabi-sabi". (Surely the line in P.Y.O. " It's so fresh and tastes so good, Shapes a little ugly" is a flavour of wabi-sabi.) On a number of occasions I've been lucky enough to watch Naoko very closely when she plays that particular solo. She always looks so happy when she gets it "right" and so annoyed when it goes "wrong". And boy, she looks super-cute when she's annoyed at herself. She's such a perfectionist. But however she plays it, it always sounds great to me. * A while back I decided to try and download this video so I wouldn't have to be on-line to watch it, but having no suitable software for recording streaming video, I wound up installing something which wasn't really meant for my version of Linux and it messed my computer settings big time. And what's worse, I couldn't get the software to work. So I uninstalled it and that made things even worse - it stole a load of drivers when it left.
So with everything backed up I did a reinstall and also put XP on at the same time(which took aaages - pesky Windows). To be honest, it was something I'd been meaning to do but just hadn't got round to doing. And then found that I'd not got anything suitable for Windows either. So now I've got myself a Moshcam account and still have to watch it on-line. I've also watched a few of the other gigs. The Gary Numan one was quite good and I'm no Numan fan, I've only got one of his singles.
