The dimples are there to give the cymbal a more complex richer, fuller and fatter sound. A Rock sound. Normally cymbals are hammered as part of the manufacturing process to give them a richer tone, for best results the hammer pattern should be random. (You've probably noticed the hammer marks on some cymbals.) I guess that the dimples are just an exaggerated form of hammer marks and they look to be nice and random - perhaps computer controlled "random". Who knows? That'll be a closely guarded trade secret. I can imagine Emi proudly walking into a gig with those babys in her bags and I can't wait to hear her beating the life out of those beasts.

Elves with pedal actuated pneumatic rams. Probably a cymbal factory gives preference to the deaf when hiring for the hammering department. Hard to be sure, but it looks like Emi left the black metal gear at home for the end of year date at Fandango. EDIT: It's probably just Ritsuko's hair or I don't know what, but when I look at this photo I see mermaids singing to boatloads of sailors happily bobbing about in the tropical waters. Something like that. Lucky sailors.

Emi’s been all a-Twitter about her new bestie, bassist HISAYO of J-rockers a flood of circle. The girls met — first time, sounds like — yesterday at the 2015 Sakai Meeting, where both bands played. Nice study in contrastsafoc is known as a punk-rock-blues-roots band, but informally I call it “Shounen Anime Opening Music.” At times lead singer Ryousuke reminds me of… Gavin Rossdale, erst of Bush. They’ve been at it since 2006. Check out an official live short on YouTube … and here they are at last.fm.

Ohoh... is that girl trying to steal our drummer, for her own band?? 0.o Just a crush, it's harmless. Hey, Etsuko — tip for you: you might want to look around for a good, reliable au pair with a solid visa.

Hey, Etsuko — tip for you: you might want to look around for a good, reliable au pair with a solid visa. That would likely make a few SK fans very happy, at first, I would have been one of them, but now, i'll take Emi over Etsuko, she's become just as good a drummer, plays more like Atsuko, style-wise, can sing lead and loves to kid around, unlike the "all business" Etsuko. Emi is simply just a better "fit" for SK, than Et-chan.

Emi is simply just a better "fit" for SK, than Et-chan. No contest, it's not the same band w/o Emi. I saw a bumper sticker on the back of a van last week: LIKE MOST MUSICIANS YOU ARE FOLLOWING THE DRUMMER Only too true.

Woo-hoo Emi has tweeted this cute picture! According to a few of lots of translation software which had a difficult time translating this tweet, it seems that Emi has got herself a double bass drum pedal and is having fun learning to use it. Does this mean that for the next album we'll get a load of 300 BPM Death Metal songs? Or perhaps my computer is lying to me again...

Dunno, but, definitely has amped up her drumkit!

Tricksy computer, misleads us it does, my Precious. Emi's been in the practice room banging her head, or rather foot, against a speed barrier — and finally broke through. More or less, she wrote: Uwaaaaaaai! In my 15th year on the drums, I can play double strokes properly at last! It felt great playing proper pedal doubles on the bass drum at the same time!
Is it just like the moment when you can do a back hip-circle properly, it seems so simple once you grasp the knack of it, and till then it's a huge endeavor?
That sure took a long time...
So it's not that she's started putting two feet on two beaters for her bass. It's that she's gained a new level of ability to produce two hits from a single motion. Finesse.
While the first hit happens, you allow the drum pedal to float under your foot but you continue your stroke, and as you're following through, you catch the beater on the hop and send it back a second time. You generally want to do this with enough force so that the short second throw sounds as loud as the first one, an equal not an echo.
There are at least three ways to think about accomplishing it, with names like slide, heel-toe, and flatfoot.
Emi used the term gyaku agari literally "reverse rise" or "inverted rise."
Gyaku agari turns out to be the name of a gymnastics move taught in Japanese public schools same as in the West (the back hip-circle — check it out).
Kind of confirms my instinct that says Emi was a high-school gymnast, as well as a diligent craftsperson.
Five points if you're still reading!

Thanks tan, I was hoping that someone would be able to clarify what was going on. I was reasonably convinced that my computer was having a laugh at my expense, but couldn't be certain. One foot and pedal for two hits is much better than two feet and double pedals, and much harder to accomplish, even though Emi says its easy to do once you know how. I've seen a few vids by drummers demonstrating the technique, but as I'm no drummer it didn't do too much for me, a bit like when trumpeters demonstrate how to blow two different tunes at the same time. With talk of back hip-circles, the gymnastic option for Emi sounds quite likely as she often seems to do that gymnast's standing on one leg pose - or perhaps she was a flamingo in a past life, 'cos they tend to stand on one leg.

Yeah, her choice of patterned fabrics makes her kind of a flamingo in this life.
I think maybe her motive for brandishing her cushiony low-cut in the amazingly vividness-pushed tweet pic is that it contains her newly educated dominant foot.
If I remember aright, in that one video post of Mikado's (waiting for the tech to fix a buzzing guitar cable) while Naoko extemporizes in English, Emi does the standing ballet split with one foot, her left, *on the seat of her throne.*
I'm like, "Naoko, make her stop! One sprained ankle and your whole tour is in ashes."

Emi's got great feet, and now that particular foot has developed Super Powers, its no wonder that she's showing it off.

Yeah, I was thinking she was either a dancer, gymnast or figure skater with that amazing balance! The same girl I thought of, five years ago as the cute sporty little sister type, who was a competent drummer at best, is now a fantastic drummer, hot as the sun and just the most adorable person I've ever seen in a bowl cut! image hosting over 5mb
