A mid-20th century diesel from Sentinel with a bunch of cider casks unites a couple of things that are actually related: rapid freight hauling and industrialized farming. It looks like a Roomba street sweeper mounted to a motorcycle. But it's an auto-show fantasy of a 3-wheeled Philippine taxi, the motorized version of a pedicab trike.

The Barnfinds pinboard combines ruin exploration with a morbid version of the classic car fancy. "Ozymandias" for motorheads.

Takuma Sato pulls out a win for Andretti-Honda at the Indianapolis 500
Slipping into the lead with 3 laps left. He crashed on a move like this during the last lap of the 2012 race.
03:30 of trying to get by Sato (can't get by him), 03:30 of everyone trying to adjust, 01:15 getting him loose from the car, 01:30 of victory ritual.
May 29, 2017 (Japan time) We witnessed an historic moment for motor sports and the sports world The wonderful figure of Takuma Sato, who was forgotten in the same place in 2012, but who fought his way back to become the winner of the 101st Indy 500.
"This is something." "He did it, he did it!" more in disbelief than triumph. "I don't suppose it's a dream?" "This is *no* dream."
〜〜〜
From about 01:30, second-place finisher Hélio Castroneves is trying hard to do to Sato exactly what Sato just did to him. His last chance comes at 02:09, but he can't run around Sato on the outside. Why not?
Maybe his car just didn't have what the Andretti Honda had that day. Michael Andretti said they gave Sato not the best engine, but the "meanest" one (he was ranked 4th in a team of 6 drivers).
But, although it's hard to judge… Sato made his own opportunity by sticking to Castroneves' tail like he was glued on. That's one thing Castroneves was unable to do back to him. When people talk about Sato, they mention conspicuous humility, and a stone-cold willingness to take risks.
When he was interviewed, he said he managed to win because he trusted Castroneves to accept losing the lead, rather than make a mistake that would take them both out.
"The last few laps, they were the moment. I know Hélio is always coming on charging. But he's just such a gentleman and such a fair player. I believe him. We go side-by-side in turn one. It was job done. The last two laps, the car worked beautifully.”

He calls it a 55, but, it's mostly 54... the heart taillights, the semaphores... the thing is, that at that time, VW simply kept building the cars until the parts ran out. In other words, it's a 54, that was built in '55... the true 55s had no hearts on the taillights and had "bullet" turn signals, instead of the semaphores!

That's just how manufacturing used to work all over. Your factory-original Fender guitar can have a 1970 serial number glued onto a neck and other parts from 1969, that waited in a rack till a body needed them. If electronic components ran short, they'd substitute the next closest thing. If raw lumber started coming from a different mill, you got a different result, and it might matter which guy wound your pickups.
