[glow=red,2,300]Thursday, Nov 4th will mark the sad 5th anniversary of former Shonen Knife support drummer Mana (China) Nishiura's death, in a van rollover, in New Jersey; this thread is a place where you can just tell a Mana story or just bide her to rest in Peace. So, let's post a little tribute to Mana; SK's little angel![/glow] Mana died in New Jersey while touring with the band DMBQ. On November 4, 2005, another vehicle crossed lanes and struck the van from behind. The van went down an embankment and rolled over. Nishiura was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. I have a poster autographed by Mana - she wasn't signing with the rest of the band, she was breaking down her drum kit. Had to ask her to sign it - she was very polite about it.

Six years already Shonen Knife Drummer Killed in Van Crash NewsBy Spin Staff on November 7, 2005 4:00 AM Comment .Shonen Knife drummer Mana "China" Nishiura, on tour with Japanese noise rockers DMBQ, was killed Friday when her band's van flipped over on I-95 in Delaware en route from Baltimore to Brooklyn. According to the website Freewilliamsburg.com, DMBQ's tour manager, Michelle Cable, suffered a major head injury and the rest of the band was hospitalized. DMBQ lead singer Shinji Masuko is still hospitalized but in stable condition, and guitarist Toru Matsui and bassist Ryuichi Watanabe have been released from the hospital. DMBQ's Friday show at Club Exit with USAisamonster and Bad Wizard was cancelled because of the tragedy. www.spin.com/articles/shonen-knife-drummer-killed-van-crashSorry this is a few days late, Mana-chan... You'll always be in our hearts Here is probably the nicest tribute to Mana ever: www.frankperri.com/mana.htm

Well, it's now 7 years since Mana-chan died in a terrible car accident on Nov 4, 2005; we can't bring her back but, I found some "new" photos of her, so, here's one of them from the Heavy Songs tour Attachments:

Why was Mana never a full member? After all, Emi was a full member from the first day she joined the Knife.

Why was Mana never a full member? After all, Emi was a full member from the first day she joined the Knife. From what I've read, Mana was a "free spirit" who didn't want to be tied down by playing for one band (She was in high demand as a "sessions" drummer); but, more importantly, Atsuko was still drummer for the actual recording sessions; Mana played concerts only*. * Although she did fill in for Atsuko on a couple of recordings
