The additional O at the start of tanjoubi is added for extra politeness. A lot of words start with an optional O. There's even insults which I've seen with the optional O which seems weird.

Last year when Shonen Knife played at The Waterfront in Norwich, the venue wasn't exactly heaving. The gig was nowhere near capacity. The excuse that the venue gave for the rather poor turnout was that SK were playing in Norwich just after a two week long music festival had finished and so everyone was completely gigged out and probably out of cash. There had been a number of bands playing at a selection of venues every night for a fortnight. When I was finding out where the venue was prior to going to the gig, I noticed that there were a fair few good bands playing in the area in the weeks leading up to the gig, but just assumed that loads of good bands play Norwich, I didn't know about the music fest. I've just found out what at least some of that festival was and what it was in aid of and why everyone was all spent out so that attendance for SK was so poor. Oh the irony of it. Norwich had been having two weeks of musical mayhem at least in part as a fund-raiser and celebration of the opening of the John Peel Centre For The Performing Arts. John Peel was the first radio presenter to play Shonen Knife on UK radio. And as I'm sure you know, he had them record a couple of sessions for his radio show. Here's a documentary with stuff about it. thespace.org/items/e00018ag/player?t=cgyzw(There is a notice about strong language, but I didn't notice much) The Undertones doing My Perfect Cousin is at 31.46 remaining. There's a bit of talk with them and more from their gig at 28.49 remaining, then a nice bit of talk with them discussing is it right for blokes in their 50's to still be singing a song like "Teenage Kicks" (which starts at 18.00 remaining), and if the drummer dies will the band still go on, and if the bass player dies will they still go on. They've already replaced the singer - their original one went solo. They were saying that they want to keep gigging for as long as they can and for as long as people keep coming. Sound familiar? There is one rather nice line in the Undertones interview (they're an Irish band) where one of them says "Norwich, its a difficult place to get to - especially from Ireland." Shonen Knife had been playing in Ireland the night previous to their Norwich gig. At their Manchester gig last year, Ritsuko said that they had just been recording a session for the John Peel radio show. Then Naoko corrected her - it was for Mark Riley, John Peel died a number of years ago.

I was looking at a page for Bad Religion memes and thought, what if we made some SK memes! I wanted to start a thread, but I can't think of any good ones right now.

Pardon my ignorance but, what is a meme? You've probably seen them before and didn't know what they were called. I didn't know what they were called for the longest time, but I knew they were out there. A meme is one of those captioned pictures...And they all have different themes depending on the picture. Emphasis is placed on the second line. Here's an example of a meme: Attachments:

And by the way, it's pronounced "meem" not "mee mee". That's what my sister and I thought at first until our cousin corrected us. He's usually the one to teach us about the latest internet trends.

That's the only one I've ever seen. I think that together, we can come up with some good ones. But I can't think of anything at the moment...

I didn't mean to do it, but before I could stop there was this. WHICH SHONEN KNIFE ORIGINAL MEMBER ARE YOU?
Answer 10 questions to decide which original band member you are. Go on, just get this over with. 1: It's Monday night and the clubs are silent. How do you spend your spare time?- Perfecting distortion effects in the bedroom
- Sketching outfits with color pencils at the dining table
- Watching “Deep Alien: Do Whales Come From The Stars?” on TV
2: You prefer fashions that:
- Dry quickly and don’t chafe under the arms
- Make people stop and look
- Match your mood
3: Are you emotional?
- Of course, but I try to set a good example
- Of course, I’m a people person!
- Of course, I’m a Metal Ox with Sun in Virgo
4: What do you hate the most?
- When my demo recording is better than the finished mix
- When people can’t just relax and enjoy themselves
- Unimaginative persons who question my thought process
5: You would help out the group by:
- Negotiating long-term sponsorship with options
- Talking to promotors about better advertising and merchandise
- Writing half an album before Naoko gets started
6: What is your secret weapon?
- Hand-selected tubes in my Marshall head
- Second mic on the floor tom
- Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi
7: What are your best school subjects?
- I’m good at every subject, but I like Music Club
- Art, Languages, and Cultural Festival
- Independent Study
8: What would you say to a request to appear at Benefit Night?
- Does the PA system work? Can your engineer help us set up?
- How long do I have? Costumes take time!
- How about a Time Travel theme?
9: What’s your idea of a perfect day?
- Petting zoo in the morning, octopus pancakes and beer for lunch, Motörhead show in the evening
- Photography trip to a bird sanctuary and live volcano, beach luau, starlight cruise with fire dancing
- Robotic dinosaur exhibit at the museum, cat hotel & cafe, third-row center at the Chinese ballet
10: People think of you as:
- Someone who doesn’t take no for an answer
- Someone cooler than the ones who think they're so cool
- Someone you might overlook until what is this, I don’t even… ?!
If you answered… Mostly (A): You’re Naoko Mostly (B): You’re Atsuko Nothing but (C): Michie — you’ve come back!
