Shonen Knife naked! Well, I don't know if any of you've noticed this, but on the Japanese version of this album, the front cover has a picture of the band naked on it and Naoko is about to strike a monster power chord. Perhaps they thought this was a bit too much for the delicate sensibilities of the western censors, and so we just got the toned down cover pic. Brace yourselves... Attachments:

BRAND NEW KNIFE ~ Song review [glow=red,2,300]BUDDHA'S FACE[/glow] Ok, this one is just plain weird.....part trancendental experience, part angry GF song and just slightly psychedelic (with a touch of heavy metal), this song is Naoko at her most mysterious.....maybe it only makes sense to her! Not really a bad song at all, just weird! I wonder if this link might help explain this very dark song which appears to be about self mummification. www.odditycentral.com/pics/sokushinbutsu-japans-self-mummified-monks.htmlAfter all, the second line of the song goes, "You don't even know if you're going to be a mummy." Apparently hundreds of monks tried doing this, but there were very few successes. Eek!!!!

When you consider that the Buddha's core message was "nothing is permanent" and "all things must pass", this is particularly weird.
Naoko gave a radio interview where she explained (unsatisfactorily) the meaning of Buddha's Face.
I might have it somewhere, I'll look.

I've often wondered why there was a clothed and unclothed version of this CD cover. Was it just to differentiate between the Japanese and non Japanese versions? Either way one of my favourite Knife albums. Really hope they do Wind Your Spring and Tower of the Sun on this year's tour.

I've often wondered why there was a clothed and unclothed version of this CD cover. Was it just to differentiate between the Japanese and non Japanese versions? Either way one of my favourite Knife albums. Really hope they do Wind Your Spring and Tower of the Sun on this year's tour. Indeed it is an excellent album, but then, aren't they all? Yes, I think it is mostly to differentiate between the various regional releases of their discs. Remember that for each region they also have different record labels/distributors, so perhaps there may also be copyright issues involved with the artwork. Currently Shonen Knife have three regions to release their CDs in and on three different record labels. So that means three different lots of artwork. Also there is usually differences in the content of the various releases, whether that be language differences, track listing differences, or differences in the included artwork (booklets/lyric sheets etc.) . And think of all the bonus tracks that you sometimes get. So strictly speaking, they're not even the same records/CDs. I personally don't treat them as the same. The added bonus of this is - more SK to collect. Woo-hoo! ;D But then it also helps those of us who are trawling the Internet trying to find stuff when on websites in foreign languages, from the covers you can tell which release it is. It's certainly helped me in the past when translations have been a bit vague and the information provided a bit sparse. It also helps on auction sites when all they provide is a photo of the CD.
