. Post by thegl0r on Feb 14, 2014 at 4:49pm Wa-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Two of my favourite frames are both on the same page and are fighting it out in the corner of my brain to try and prove which one's the best. The nominations in no particular order are... "Konnichiwa konnichiwa welcome to my pu-uh-unch" and "They aren't (sniff) spam, sir, they are cookies and really good...." and then on a later page, another great one is... "There's only one thing Powerknife Girls are powerless against...Duct Tape." Keep up the good work. That's a request, not an order.

Thx, the Konnichiwa gag is my personal favorite... I'll bet you weren't expecting the cookies to work like that . The back cover (Notice I didn't clean it up any) was originally the first panel of my original ending, which would have had the Mayor chewing out the cop for his complete uselessness, I decided that it only lengthened the story, without adding anything to it, so, I dumped it in favour of the prison scene (Self editing).

You may have heard what you thought was the sound of thunder rumbling in the distance. Wrong. That was me laughing. Again. It started with the front cover and Emi playing some drums that she'd "found" and gradually rose to a raging crescendo when I got to the back cover. I love it, but I was rather startled to see Naoko being sick on the birthday cake and Emi drooling at it! Then I looked again. That isn't barf it is a #1 candle They're off to exotic Southern Islands, and what's the first thing they think of? Food! "What is all this talk of monster jellyfish and is it legal to eat them?" Oooh! Emi did say it was a long flight, so I guess they needed to refuel. Especially as it looks like they may not have had time to eat the cake. Did it get left in Aristotle's delicate care? Yes, Aristotle will "take care of it", I guarantee!I also love the back cover with the girls in their shiny new dresses, though they do look a little startled. Almost as if they're blushing and trying to cover themselves up because they've been caught in their underwear - well, they're not in their PKG clothes, so... I was just copying the original publicity pose (See below) I think I've read this issue about four times now. With a detour to listen to parts of Fun! Fun! Fun! a couple of times. And it was. Thanks. ^_^
BTW, Isn't Nara where the deer who eat biscuits live? I tried to look at the city hall of Naha, Okinawa. On Google maps, it's a building site - what happened, who's to blame? You're right, that should have said "Naha" (That is what happens when you attempt to draw a comic book at 4 am!) I fixed it! ps Does anyone else think that this look like the power button on a remote control? It's the city flag of Naha. Perhaps its Japan's remote control? Either that, or a corn maze how to make screen shotNaha City Hall: pc screen shot

SO GLOR ADDED: . Post by thegl0r on Mar 8, 2014 at 6:46am That isn't barf it is a #1 candle He-he-he. I realised that it was a candle after my first double-take. But it did make me wonder if you'd deliberately drawn it that way just to sow the seeds of in the readers minds. I was just copying the original publicity pose It impressed me that you'd done the pic for the back cover so soon after the release of the publicity photo. So I quickly re-checked the photo to see how close you'd got the pose, 'cos it looked like you'd got it "right" to me. You're right, that should have said "Naha" (That is what happens when you attempt to draw a comic book at 4 am!) I fixed it! 4am? But isn't that the best time to be drawing comic books? It's not part of the daytime drudgery, it's not late at night, and its not early in the morning. It's that in-between time when the creative juices flow. And there I was expecting you to remind me that life in comic books isn't always the same as life in the outside world. Interesting picture of Naha City Hall. The first thing I noticed was the Lion-Dog near the entrance gate to the building. I noticed that it is the one with its mouth closed, the -um one which represents the end of things. That might explain City Hall being a building site on Google maps - the building has come to an end! But who's to blame? I also noticed the sign above the entrance gate is in Japanese with English subtitles. So that must mean that the inhabitants there speak with English subtitles rather than speaking English with a Japanese accent. Or do they get dubbed into English when engaged in conversation with English speakers? I won't bother mentioning that the front door to the City Hall is halfway up the building, roughly level with the flag on the flagpole offering more proof that people in Japan can fly. They tell the gaijin that it is purely for ceremonial purposes - and to promote good fortune. But we know differently. Below is a photo giving more proof that the Japanese fly everywhere. It shows 2 kids who are on their way to school with their rocket-packs on their backs. They may look like they are waiting for a train, but if you look closely, you can see that they are checking aps on their phones for the "All clear" message from the Gaijin Monitoring Agency. As soon as they get that, they'll be flying again. But for now they'll have to go by train because there's a foreigner with a camera nearby and they need to keep up the pretence of not flying. api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_14473862495129&key=bbb516d91daee20498798694a42dd559&libId=igx4bttj010004m6000DA1h46f3sf28gn7&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fshonenknife.proboards.com%2Fthread%2F510%2Fbig-punk-comics%3Fpage%3D24&v=1&out=http%3A%2F%2Fpostimage.org%2Fapp.php&title=BIG%20PUNK%20COMICS%20%7C%20Shonen%20Knife%20Forum&txt=Schoolchildren%20in%20uniform%20-%20Kansai%2C%20Japan

Yay! It's finally here! (Says a world class procrastinator) And it's a cheesecake issue! I'm shocked at all of those pictures of Ritsuko Powerknife posing in her bikini and I'm even more shocked at all of those pictures that you didn't include. I'm especially shocked at the double-page bikini poster that you kept for yourself. Tut tut tut. I remember reading in an interview with Jamie Hewlett, the artist for Tank Girl, who said that for every cover picture of Tank Girl that he did, there was a [cough] dis-robed version that he kept for himself. I keep all the disrobed Tank Girl pics I draw also...oh wait, I've never drawn Tank girl! I always knew that jellyfish got up to mischief - I've been stung by them twice. But fortunately it wasn't by any of the really nasty ones - it was just like stinging-nettles. But now that I know that they also have seaweed powers, I'll never go in the water again. Unless the Powerknife Girls are there to save me. You've been stung by jellyfish? We haven't any oceans where I live but, there's a good chance of being bitten by a pike in the great lakesI think that for me, this time perhaps its Emi Ramone and Professor Ooshi have the best lines, "Fun? Are we gonna make icecream?", "No Emi, we're going to smash a flower..." So that's what mad scientists get up to in their spare time. Sure, scientists on TV used to smash nitrogen covered flowers all the time, I mean, can you blame them, who likes nasty old flowers anyway?I loved Emi Powerknife wanting to be a beachcomber rather than a lifeguard, and then beach-combing when she should have been lifeguarding. Ooh, what was the shiny thing she found, will her metal detector still be there when she gets back, will Ritsuko get sunburn because she fell asleep in the sun? Where did everyone go? For the answers to these and other questions I will be sure to tune in next time to the same Shonen Knife forum, same Big Punk thread. Up up and a YAY! The shiny thing is the elusive 2000 yr old religious artifact, the "Holy Grail", lost since the Middle Ages... and soon to be recovered by the sands of a sunny beach on OkinawaYou terrible person, you. This latest issue made me ruin two cups of tea. I started to make them and then left them to go cold because I was reading and then re-reading the new issue. I shake my teaspoon in your general direction! This third cup of tea I will drink before it gets cold. Too cold. since this comic takes place in Japan, it had better be green tea.Oh, I forgot to answer one of your questions about the Naha city hall, the reason that Naha has signs in both English and Japanese is because Naha is close to the US military base (On Okinawa since the end of WW2), something that irritates the locals to no end!

I keep all the disrobed Tank Girl pics I draw also...oh wait, I've never drawn Tank girl! You've never drawn Tank Girl disrobed? Yeh, right! So who have you drawn disrobed then? We know all about you artistic types, you're always drawing or painting pictures people in a state of undress - art gallery’s all over the world are filled with the proof of what you "artists" get up to. Or is it that you draw whilst disrobed? We haven't any oceans where I live but, there's a good chance of being bitten by a pike in the great lakes Oo-err, that sounds very painful - getting your "great lakes" bitten. Sure, scientists on TV used to smash nitrogen covered flowers all the time, I mean, can you blame them, who likes nasty old flowers anyway? Now that you mention it, I have noticed that scientists on TV smash a lot of frozen flowers when they're not smashing atoms. Or do they smash atoms because they haven't got any flowers handy? Perhaps they are all working on a cure for Hay Fever by doing it one flower at a time? Could it be that Professor Ooshi suffers from really bad hay-fever and is developing an army of self replicating robots that will scour the earth, freezing flowers wherever they find them and then smashing them. Wow! That's much more hard-core than Naoko smashing a bug with a tissue because it came into her room. The shiny thing is the elusive 2000 yr old religious artifact, the "Holy Grail", lost since the Middle Ages... Ah, so it really was the Holy Grail then. In the frame with the initial reveal, the light shining on Emi's face as she digs in the sand made me wonder if she'd found the contents of Marsellus Wallace's briefcase. Then, when we got to see what she'd found I wondered if it was the Grail, or perhaps Neptune's crown. But now you've cleared up the age-old mystery of what happened to the Holy Grail. It reached the middle ages, had a mid-life crisis and sneaked off for a quiet life of becoming a beach bum and then it went off to tour the world's exotic beaches. since this comic takes place in Japan, it had better be green tea. To my shame, I'll have to admit that I wasn't making green tea at the time. Though I did think that perhaps I should have been. The only Japanese tea in my cupboard is some matcha. But I have got some Chinese green tea and also some Chinese black tea and some Pu-erh tea (compressed into a disc shape). Some Ceylon tea, some tea from Kenya, a couple of blended teas (Earl Grey and two different "English Breakfast" blends) I've even got some ginger "Herbal" tea. But at the time I was trying to make Assam tea from India. Am I teas-ing you too much?

Aaargh! A raucous cry disturbs the black crows who are roosting in distant trees and even makes an evil bird fall off my balcony. In shock I press my hands to my eyes and dash away from my computer wailing and moaning and run headlong into the nearest wall. OMG, OMG, OMG!!! Issue 27 was a cheesecake issue... issue 28 is snuff hentai with tentacles issue! What is the world coming to? Are there no depths of depravity that Mikado will not dredge "for the sake of art"? What next? Will the Powerknife Girls decide to form an Idol Band? For my next depravity, I will have SK run for public office, the most evil thing anyone can do! That's probably even more shocking than the disclosure on page 2 that during WW2, Americans were captured and held prisoner by monster jellyfish! ummmmm.... I think you misread I like the changes in the way that you're doing the colouring. It's altered the style of the comic nicely. C'mon. get doing lots and lots of practice so that you'll get quicker and quicker for us impatient types. You could always practice by doing lots of new issues of PKG - that's me offering a helpful suggestion. I had to chose between speed and quality, then went for neither BTW, me being picky, but shouldn't that be "...find neither hide nor hair of her..." in the recap frame at the beginning? Since when do people from the UK know anything about speaking proper English?? Us French Canadians, on the other hand.....

NOTES
Morimoto san was based on 50s pin-up goddess Bettie Page... I gave her the family name Morimoto, in honour of Emi.
This story is at least twice as long as I originally meant it to be!
