This has become the Gacharic Spin Mark III thread now. Sloppy, but there is precedent. Those instructional DVDs must have worked out, they keep doing them. They are a bit of a rip-off, in that the bait is "play like your idols" and the switch is, "practice three exercises and realize you need 300 more and many dozens of hundreds of hours." Fun, though. Because the members are fun, just reading from a newspaper. Rockabilly trio The Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass just finished their set. They sound great, but didn't let it loose till the very last song. It can be hard to feel it in a foreign hangar in broad daylight!

JinnyOops! rocked this shed! Mitsuyo is the thinnest human alive. She gets that look in her eye like a crazy horse just before it bites you. So much energy.

That's it, can just about stand. No show pics in this phone, eff that. I was participating. GS cares about your aerobic fitness, they asked that everyone run in place for the encore.
Koga's uniform is race-queen inspired. In fact, it makes her look like a car.
Data analysis showed that "F-Chopper Koga" was not memorable for fans. But "Fck" with a thumbs-up and lightning-bolt made the right impression. This show has road crew. A jester in hot pink PVC motley and a tulle puff skirt, and LEDs, is not so remarkable for J-Pop Summit. I'll just add that JinnyOops! and Gachapin were awesome in opposed ways. As a power trio, JO! is so spare and lean, you wonder if they're big enough for the hall. Can they make enough excitement at 4:15 before a so-so 4pm audience? It turns out they can, because Mitsuyo reaches down somewhere and pulls it out like a rabbit from a hat while you look. Hey, do that again and this time I want to watch where your hands go. It was a star just flipping the star switch to ON before my dazzled eyes. On the other hand, GS fills that substantial stage from edge to edge with constant activity. Everything is wireless, so they can and do engage in unsafe practices like running back and forth from side to side, playing all the while, leaving their floor wedges and mic and monitor and instrument signals trailing in their dust. They are exactly as they seem, always reassuring. They're real. Such a large team with such wonderful chemistry, they are TOTAL veterans who just beam in and blow you away. It adds to the pleasure, to see how well everyone covers their assignment. How they are with each other is absolute mutual support and absolute good times. They love doing shows together. There seem to be no distinctions of age or class. Maybe because the dance chorus is so cheeky. I think the audience lived up to expectation — there was no actual loss of mind, but fanship was very dense. And I am ruined for tomorrow. Eir Aoi and JAM Project followed. I did my best for them and their songs I don't know. But it was already 4 hours in, and GS had made us run, literally. Get those knees up, no shuffling. The dancers were basically doing a football drill in place for 3.5 minutes and I saw them getting that glassy look of concentration that says, I can make it, I can make it to the end. Going back tomorrow, of course. A small detachment of Gacharic Corps chilling on the rail hours before their band is scheduled. It's a thing to declare for your favorite member by having a shirt that mimics their uniform, or at least bears their name with a short essay in English.

Hai, jaa... today began with Gacharic Meet & Greet, a custom I recently learned the rules of. There is a formula. {[(star demand / pressure to reach audience) * fan temperature] * [cost of appearance]} * daily cash factor = adjusted value in merch you must purchase to meet/greet a commercial entertainment entity. There's a separate calculation for how many fans will be admitted. I'm so glad I'm kind of cold to the top-tier headliners. I qualified easily for GS, so got to clasp hands with each member in an indestructible trans-oceanic bond of mutual good will, AND I had opportunity to tell each one how they are so great. Luckily, I still had some adjectives left at the end. Miming works far and away the best. Totally made them feel loved and understood. Got high-five from Tomo for praising her old band Eu·Phoria. We agree, they were fabulous. Had my trophy shirt adorned in paint pen -- sugoi! Then many things not so rock 'n' roll. Events like these are bankrolled by industry groups and major manufacturers, and endorsed by cultural affairs bureaus, politicians, and trade organizations. So you get self-piloting electric wheelchairs tooling around, gesture-driven instrument sample soundboards you can play in thin air like a theremin, and imitation traditional inns where the view out the window is a widescreen TV. And, since it's San Francisco, a lot of talk about food, personal manufacturing and the infinite charm of digital data. Fashion show. Meh. An all-star chorus of high-school girls packaged into a gospel choir called Little Glee Monster was stupendous. They're child stars, they don't even look as old as in the photo. They asked the audience to growl and make monster claws (photo from their Twitter feed). Rather a lot of this. Mascots for different towns or prefectures or regions. Do you see any eyeholes? A mystery. Musubizm's fan danceThe man is boring. Look, there's my friend!Annual dance contest. Karaoke with a $250,000 sound system. Sketch physical comedy from Jaru Jaru. One skit is an avalanche of onomatopoeia and mime about burping, sneezing, and yawning. It turns into a kind of beat-boxing performance. Then there's a bit about a bag-snatching thief who doesn't want the bag — only the thrill of grabbing it from the worn-out victim, over and over and over and over. So, the bits of media have been rolling in to further document how relatively big this was in 2015. I'm not sure that renting Fort Mason was a huge financial success, and abandoning Japantown kind of sucks for the local economy. But it was a big win for the ability to stage and record some cool performances. J!-ENT Online YouTube ChannelThe somewhat official channel of the event, and it had its butt severely kicked for doing too good a job. Their crew got great footage, but it didn't end there. Some nice video of marquee acts was up for only a day or two, and then simply disappeared without a trace. They posted a worm's-eye view of the entire Gacharic Spin show, with surprise encore, and some pretty phenomenal sound, considering. You could hear performers Mai and Nen'ne shouting at times, and they were not mic'd. So that earned J!-ENT an immediate content block from copyright holder Japan Victor Corp. WHY did I not DL those 43 minutes when I had the chance? Because of respect, that's why. So no HD souvenir of a great evening for me, and a bunch more straw to line the dog's manger over at the record company. Dancer No. 1 Mai unexpectedly learns to flyThere's a lot of other comparatively cruddy audience footage on YouTube by now. Here's the setlist I meant to post: - Intro
- Never Say Never
- More Power
- Don't Let Me Down
- Sayonara Cherry
- I'm Sexy (Rod Stewart cover)
- Sekira Liar
- Dungan Beat
- Encore: WINNER

Where are my high kill-ratio rock bands? They are selling me Silent Siren and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, and the rest of the pitch is: we've had a big roster in past years. But don't big bands know what their summer tour schedule looks like by now? Feeling dubious. j-pop.com/music-at-j-pop-summit/

2016 J-Pop Summit Festival, San Francisco, July 2016 Silent Siren Wednesday Campanella's Saturday SetRiding out after "Momotaro" in the magic bubbleSUIKAN, charming J-pop fans with their second American show, get a surprise birthday celebration from the audienceJuly 26, 2016 by staff for MusicMan-Net.com musicman-net.com/artist/59348.htmlThe first Wednesday Campanella US show was this spring at SXSW in Austin. KOM-I ran down a short program of hits, featuring face replacement in MSQRD for "Chupacabra", and a crowd surfing finish in her giant inflated waterball full of colored LEDs. She mounted the stage from the rear of the hall, passed forward on a big Domokun like a festival shrine. She was carried out much the same way. The San Francisco audience knew she'd just had a birthday on the road — so they sang to her, which she did not expect and which made her tear up. 24 year old Kom-I is a pretty humble rap diva. She never really planned to be a pop star. She told an interviewer she thought her destiny was to go to work in an office like everybody else her age. She's a natural entertainer, however. Which means just the same thing… until you affectionately shorten it to WedCamp, "Suikan" (水カン). Because hump-day in Japan is named after the element of Water, the Japanese abbreviation would literally mean a gardener's watering can. Similar to how their fans used to call the Replacements the Place Mats. Wednesday Campanella at #JPOPSummit 20162016 JUL 23 by Mike Root (02:17) People get this wrong. "Wednesday Campanella" is the name of the trio of which front person Kom-I is the only member onstage. They say they took the name in part because their regular meetings were always at midweek. Because leaning on the walls makes it roll, Kom-I can drive around in her hamster ball on top of the crowd while singing. How many minutes of air are in that thing? Since they're being so proactive with the promotion, it's not too soon to start advertising 2018. I can imagine some lucrative pre-preregistration bundles happening.
I see absolutely everything in this picture, everything except loud guitar bands on tour. But I need the LGBT.
Drag queens in kimonos, sushi, saki, plastic robots, otaku goods... I am not distracted by this noise.
Troupes of 6th graders in puffy training shoes are not enough. I want Osaka's hungriest wolves on the bill...
