Pinkorina caricature by a friend who seemingly didn't want credit. The Ōita Expeditionary Force in full array with: Shonen Knife's ambassador, Kanako from AlReady Yours, the DeathVoice66 entourage from Soccore Factory… and all the way right, in the second row, in front of the Indian place… I could be wrong, but it looks like none other than Jojiman. They met up with Ritsuko at SOMA after dinner. Rina rockin' looks awfully like a set at Copper Ravens recorded for a regional morning show on NHK. To everyone in Kyuushu/Okinawa: Tomorrow morning BRINKY is appearing on TV 06-13 (Tue) 7:51-08:00 NHK roundup "Good Morning Kyuushu-Okinawa" Definitely please watch Band from Ōita. BRINKY was on NHK TV. Keep doing your best from now on! I'll be rooting for you behind the scenes.

Rina once told me in Mess. that her guitar (the first she ever owned) weighs a ton! haha I reassured her that if she can jump as high as she does during the shows, she should be able to handle it, just fine! It's a Japanese knock-off of a Gretzch (sp?) , I believe. (Albeit, a high-quality knock-off) Middling-quality knockoff. It's a Burny PLC-70 in Pale Pink, I believe. They're highly reminiscent of a Gibson Memphis ES-Les Paul semi-hollow thin arch-top with the addition of a Bigsby tremolo. Except the Gibson weighs 3 pounds and will set you back 3 grand. Made in Japan by Fernandez with a Burny label, discontinued. The Bigsby designed roller bridge is so characteristic of hollow electrics from the '60s on, that if Rina doesn't know all about it she just never took an interest. People can be pretty excited to have these things, for looks reasons: Shuichi is someone who can afford whatever he wants, and he wants at least one of everything. His is one of the copies don't have the punk-loli pirate knobs and headstock decal like Rina's, but this one does: www.j-guitar.com/product_id1077925.html You can get one of your very own for as little as 375–500 bucks, because it's not a very sought-after model. Hipsters have made Japan-chic pretty expensive in the guitar market. But PLC-70s are not for export because of those pesky trade dress and patent infringement lawyers. So you might have to figure out your own way of getting a dodgy guitar with a rosewood neck (automatic stop and inspect) onto a plane from Japan and out of the customs house on your end. Burny's product puff pulled from Amazon: www.amazon.co.jp/FERNANDES-Fernandes-BURNY-PLC-70/dp/B000TCFG4Y Body: 45mm mahogany with 15mm maple top Neck: Solid mahogany (set neck) Fingerboard: Rosewood Pickups: FVH-2002 x 2 ( humbuckers copied from the Gibson "PAF" design) Tremolo:Bigsby B70C under license "Designed for bassists and guitarists who aren't satisfied with existing models: enter the "Swanky Spider Collection" from Fernandez!
From the popular Pale Pink to the parts done in a skull motif and set with inlays everywhere, a unique new item. Maple top / mahogany back, set neck with semi-hollow f-hole construction. Gives a characteristic fat sound. Equipped with Bigsby-licensed tremolo, loaded with cool and a single-minded focus on exceptional quality."

Now that you say the name, you're correct she DID call it a Burny... and said it was Japanese ... but, it's hard for me to remember such things... what I know about guitars, would fill a thimble and have enough room left, for your pinky!

She gave me the impression that she'd like to get a light body guitar to replace it haha Not a bad idea at all, if she wants to save her spine, neck, and shoulder. Her Burny probably is half again as heavy as a quality hollow-body, but I'd think it will take punishment about like a tank. If she were to whack the tuning head of a Gibson the same age on the floor, there's an excellent chance of snapping it clean off. It just happened to Agata from Melt-Banana, which is borderline tragic. twitter.com/melt_banana/status/886933668068864001He and his Gibson SG are surgically joined. It's more of a prosthesis than a separate instrument at this point. He's broken it before, though.

Probably not if you saw them side by side. They're in the same category, but Gretsch's idea of a manageable, not-boxy body is different from Gibson's. Big, wide, round, curvy and a long way to reach around describes a lot of Gretsches. Although this is a semi-religious sort of discussion. You're more likely to see a Bigsby tail on any random Gretsch though. So there's that similarity. And f-holes is Gretschy. 〜〜〜〜 Bri-mama/papa got her a good instrument at a price you can afford, and it sounds good as far as one can tell. I think pinkness had a lot to do with the selection. Burny went for the cutie-punk girls and they hooked one! 〜〜〜〜〜 I just looked all over for a photo of an old, like 8–10 years old, Gibson ES with the Les Paul body contour and I couldn't find one. That's because the model dates from 2014 at earliest. www.guitarworld.com/electrics-gear-news/gibson-introduces-es-les-paul-guitar-ultimate-marriage-solid-and-semi/%0921520 It was around the same time that Gibson introduced f-holes on the carved-top Les Pauls with Florentine cutaways. But their custom shop had been doing whatever it wanted for almost 30 years. So there's at least a chance that Burny looked at Les Pauls, thought, "we'll just put on f-holes for added value" and in that way created a mashup that Gibson liked and later copied for itself. Weirder things have happened. I am not a guitar historian. This is a vintage ES-295, and you can see what a big boxcar it is, and with an ornately huge carved arch.

I remember moaning about how BRINKY does nothing to make their merch available overseas, so I went looking and behold: zwölf in Ōita is a Rakuten partner store with an exclusive BRINKY page: item.rakuten.co.jp/marucart/c/0000000634/?l2-id=item_SP_RelatedCategoryThey've got the first 4 BRINKY CDs and two flavors of shirt, French Blue and... pink, what else. You can have all 4 mini- albums for the price of a shirt (¥2000). It looks to me like Rakuten can process payments, but the store does the shipping. That might mean some emailing back and forth, or else a Japanese proxy re-shipper like Tenso. Buyee handles Rakuten purchases routinely and frequently discounts the shipping or gives bonus points on purchases over a hundred dollars or so. Something to remember for the next time an irresistible object comes up at Rakuten.

If I remember right, the BRINKY listings are only listed as available for purchase in the Japanese Rakuten store and not in their "Global Market" store. This means that a proxy re-shipper needs to be used. First set up an account with the proxy re-shipper, get their shipping address, then order the CDs and wait for the proxy to say they've received your shipment and to tell you how much it will cost to ship on. After finding out how complicated it all seems, this is where I gave up. On their site, Rakuten lists three suggestions for re-shippers. Tenso.com was one of them.

I'd also noticed this and got all excited. Then I looked into buying and things got complicated... It's only complicated for a short while setting up, and after that much simpler than imagined. Like bungee-jumping. If Rakuten hasn't progressed to the point of being your re-shipping agent, then I suppose there's not enough money in it, or else as a retailer it'd eventually bring down the authorities. There are pretty exhaustive steps for getting and using a Tenso account in the PSA thread. There's no charge to create your mailbox with them. They walk you through it, and if there's any deficit with language, a Google Translate browser extension will fix that for Chrome, Firefox, maybe others. You save your Tenso address info with Rakuten, and it's yours to use with a click. Tenso is going to charge a flat handling fee, like $5–. If you don't need added services like inspection, consolidation, or re-packing that's it. International airmail on a t-shirt ain't a lot. I wouldn't say it's for every day or everything. I don't know why Bandcamp wouldn't work fine for BRINKY. But when you've just gotta have a three-eyed cat on the merchandise, the caravans have worn you a path.

When you guys figure it out, let me know... Not that I understand any of what you typed so far! TL;DRThere's not much to figure out. It's like tying your shoes. 1) Go here and sign up with Tenso for free: www.tenso.com/en/pre_regist/input/ 2) If you didn't already, get a Rakuten ID and give Rakuten your Tenso address information as well as your home address: grp01.id.rakuten.co.jp/rms/nid/registfwd?xbp=1&service_id=s216&lang=en&return_url=%2Fen%2F%3Fscid%3Dwi_jp_internal_ichiba_unpaid_top_head_en 3) Log into Rakuten Ichiba with the account info you just Tenso-ified: www.rakuten.co.jp/myrakuten/login.html 4) Shop zwölf for BRINKY: item.rakuten.co.jp/marucart/c/0000000634/?l2-id=item_SP_RelatedCategory ◉ ◉ ◉ T H I N G S G O O D T O K N O W ◉ ◉ ◉Thanks to an amendment of the Japanese Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds, you have to furnish some pretty convincing documentation that you really are who and where you say you are. A scan or digital photo of a bank statement or government-issued ID would work. You can block out the info that's not specific to name and place of residence. It takes a couple of days for them to decide if they have enough evidence. 〜〜〜 Rakuten does have its own re-mailing service called Rakuten Global Express, RGX. For items you bought through Rakuten, this might be easier than using a third party. Sometimes a bit cheaper, too — they consolidate items into one package for free. I haven't used this before, it only launched in May and I don't belong. If you aren't shopping with Rakuten, it's of no use whatsoever.
