Not too certain where to post this, but I guess it fits in here rather well as it shows things about Japanese culture. Something that facebook threw my way and was actually worth clicking on, or at least I think so. Hokuou Joshi: A Swedish Girl’s Life in Japan wow-j.com/en/Allguides/other/tips_manners/ae001_en/This episode that starts with this frame really made me smile. Its about using rock, paper, scissors for making decisions in life. BTW, the speech bubbles need to be read from the right to the left to make sense in the picture frames... Oh, and make sure you keep scrolling down to the bottom of the page as the layout is a little confusing. The piece finishes with some explanatory text followed by adverts, then scroll down and there's more. Then some more etc...

It shouldn't shock her that her verbal tics rub off on friends. It probably means they like her. Character designers do that stuff on purpose all the time, people love it. It makes a distinctive personality. Rozen Maiden Suiseiseki: everything ends with a polite "desu" desu. Like, "Good morning desu", or "I'm gonna kill you desu". RM DESU SONG COMP at YTKantai Collection Yuudachi: always the "-poi" tag on the tail, poi. Sounds awfully immature and tentative-poi. Every "poi" ever, poi at YT No! What have you done to me, throwing "desu" and "poi" at me. You should act more responsibly as you should have known what'd happen. More frantic clicking on other desu-poi vids and giggling. Then the time came for the big click which sent me from a short taster clip of a series followed by the rush on to... ... Sekirei Episode 1. OMG! Pantsu and breasts everywhere! A very Chobits-poi opening sequence, then we meet with the usual anime character stereotypes and plot-lines from so many anime shows. but here showing slightly more exposed pantsu and flesh than Chi did. But I guess you only sent me vaguely in this direction 'cos you must have known what'd happen, and I'm sure it was only done to improve my education about all things Japanese. So 'cmon, clue me in. There seems to be a fair number of this sort of anime bouncing around out there, who are the target audience and should I feel embarrassed about admitting to having watched a few episodes and enjoyed giggling at them? I was only watching for educational and research purposes. Honest.

So, you are not admitting to the wickedness of your guilt for making me to watch wimpy-boy harem anime - "I didn't make him do it". I remember using a similar feeble excuse to your carefully worded nonsense when I was a kid and got caught doing something wrong. "Mum, its not my fault, it was her idea." quickly said while pointing at my sister. I feel dirty now that I know what I was watching. I should have known something was wrong with those vids when I saw the line "Pretty boys are a Japanese national treasure." I've already tried using talking therapy - me bitching to one of my mates because I'd wasted so much time watching those vids. Now it you're telling me that I've been irreparably harem-ed because I can't un-see those vids and will need heavy-duty counselling to wean me off watching that type of thing. But at least I now know what I was watching - the lowest form of anime, which should never be mentioned in polite society for risk being ostracised.

The lowest form of anime has never yet been discovered. When they find it, it may involve baseball or trying to impress sempai. You'll be OK if you watch all 366 episodes of Bleach one per day in order. After the first season, you can cut back to one every other day.

Somehow I don't know if I should believe you when you tell me that immersing myself in bleach is a safe thing to do. Especially as there's so much Bleach to get through. Thanks for the link to all 366 episodes, but that is going a bit too far. Good grief, 366 episodes to watch. I don't think I'd manage to maintain any semblance of sanity if I were to attempt that. Actually, I was already aware of Bleach though I'd no idea there were that many episodes. Finding out has rather put me off wanting to risk getting into such a marathon of a series. What makes things even worse is that last year I bought a cheap second-hand box set of season 1 (20 episodes) of Bleach but still haven't got up the nerve to start watching it yet. One of my mates loves anime, but refuses to go anywhere near anything that comes broken up into episodes, complaining that stuff like that goes on for ages and never really gets anywhere. He prefers films and has a good size collection of DVDs, with no zillion episode box sets cluttering up the place. Whereas I've got a selection of box sets taking up space and none of them have been watched all the way through. I keep forgetting where I've got to in the series, or forget what's going on with the storyline.

Watching all of Bleach would make an old-fashioned course of rabies shots in the belly seem like a holiday. Even the creators lost interest before the ultramarathon run ran out. The first season is totally recommended, it's quaintly awesome! The concept is solid gold, the realization pretty damn good. They followed the manga slavishly. Foolproof recipe this time. I'm mostly on your friend's side. Regular episodic TV anime is more than half worthless filler. Marketing and production realities ensure it. Life is too short for most of that crap, unless anime *is* your life for some reason, and then god have mercy on your tiny soul.

Then and nowhttp://instagr.am/p/BZAxnD2nlPX Stack of 3 Edo-period time capsules http://instagr.am/p/BYx3qaVAbEu Tree Frog Girl and many more objects for your cool modern home. Like the chicken people at the back of the photo stack, this looks like the work of Tetsuro Tomonari, who thinks it's hilarious to do caricatures that are right on the line between creepy and cute.

"Rockers"http://instagr.am/p/BZSrJnOnia3 From a museum exhibition celebrating 120 years as an English-language news publication in Yokohama (till 24 December). Somebody ID'd this as the Johnnys, which seems like total nonsense. They were squeaky-clean boy idols who would not have been able to get this near the public once they got big enough for a newspaper to bother taking their picture. More likely it's civilian rockabilly devotees in full regalia with their uncannily period-accurate girlfriends having a cosplay party someplace like Yoyogi Park, maybe in the late 1980s. JT doesn't say who they are and only the photo department would have a shot at knowing for sure. The guy in the smooth suit and Beatles bowl cut is asking if anyone knows where the Merseybeat meetup moved to.

I guess that this one trully is a typical day in a Japanese school. Translation software tells me...
Rather interesting to see the way the audience congregates.

I guess that this one trully is a typical day in a Japanese school. Translation software tells me... Rather interesting to see the way the audience congregates. Yeah! It's MONGOL800, the pride of Okinawa. When they play a high school, it looks like this: Okinawa Kenritsu Urasoe School 50th Anniversary surprise showThis is at the combined Mutsuura Junior and Senior High Schools in Yokohama. Kanto Gakuin Mutsuura is an integrated private K–College school, as I read on Wikipedia. Every spring, a new crop of knock-kneed 8th graders in same black socks and same black hair gets the glory. KGM has a little series of these shows on their channel, but you came up with the people's choice. 2.6 million views… the idiots with the camera had no idea. It's like a re-make of Haruhi Suzumiya at the cultural festival. Except Haruhi's over 70M views all told. The bass player may be a stud 9th grader, but everybody's listening to that vocal. And of course the drummer who is selling the entire performance.

Thanks for digging out the extra info. That MONGOL800 vid is a great one. I found my way to MONGOL800 by way of a fair number of videos of Light Music Clubs doing cover versions of their material. Often covers of "A Song Of Small Love", some good covers and some truly awful covers, but I still watched in admiration. At my school we didn't have anything like a Light Music Club, all we ever did at break-times was to either play rather disorganised games of football (soccer), or play British Bulldogs.

We had one guy with an SG who thought he was Clapton and another who could cover Smokey Robinson wall to wall, and then the university was another story entirely. British Bulldogs... let's call it Zombie Apocalypse and rule that zombies can only walk, not run. Now it's a game instead of a death match.

To help you get prepped for Halloween...
All these need is a Santa droid with little elf-bots and some headless Big Deer.
I don't know why Spoon & Tamago are pushing the season so much, just plugging a photobook that's out ahead of the holiday buying season, I guess. Biggish originals at the link in the tweet. They look like miniatures, like they were done with a tilt-shift lens setup.
It's still a little early for the icebreakers to be out. The weekend forecast for Sapporo is cloudy with temperatures in the range of 13–21° (55-70°F).
