First name's Akane, Achi is a distinctive nick I guess. It sounds like the slang word for a grade-school achievement test! Nice style, LOL the commenter who objected that she's just synching to a recording. How that right foot does make the camera jump! Short PV of the original here: youtu.be/4VWo1LSly_kPASSPO Fireworks/Summer Sky PV (short version)
Upped by Universal Music Japan 2012 July 17 Akane's note says her upload is one of a series of "tried playing it" videos, but there's only one other that I see in the Band-maid YouTube channel. The idea of asking a bandleader to dump her bandmates to join up as your sidekick is not likely the kind of thing that would enter Naoko's practical brain. She's found somebody else to announce during Knife Day Week. Tension mounts.

I've been sort of watching "Band Maid" and came across this video of their drummer practicing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vu-7LKZiI0I don't know her name, but she's playing a CANOPUS kit like what Emi uses. I'm wondering how much of the Emi and Etsuko influence she has acquired over the years, and...has Naoko invited her to join SK? Just wondering... Answered my own question; twitter.com/achi_bandmaidShe's either Akane Hirose or Hirose Akane and is the leader of the group. In Japan, the Family name (Hirose in this case), is usually used first, Akane is her given name. It is a word that means red (or it can mean red hot)

The phrase "tried playing it" is a term used with videos uploaded on Niconico, a Japanese video sharing site. It is used when the person who uploaded the video is the person who appears in the video. So perhaps she's uploaded a whole load of videos onto Niconico which is something like the sixth most visited website in Japan. Unfortunately due to my lack of Japanese, I find it rather difficult to find my way around on Niconico and don't visit too often, but it can be a fun place with lots of dancing girls.

Yes, I posted that before I realized Akane was the Band Maid's band leader, hence the "answered my own question" added edit. I wouldn't expect Naoko to ask someone who is in what looks to be a successful up and coming band, especially the leader of such a band, to break ranks with her team. "Unfortunately due to my lack of Japanese, I find it rather difficult to find my way around on Niconico and don't visit too often, but it can be a fun place with lots of dancing girls. " I seem to have an issue with the Japanese language myself, and frankly work seems to get in the way of my searching for young female Japanese drummers. I like the dancing girls aspect of it though!

The idea of asking a bandleader to dump her bandmates to join up as your sidekick is not likely the kind of thing that would enter Naoko's practical brain. Um... Wasn't Ritsuko already in her own band when she joined Shonen Knife? Founder member and band leader of Denki Candy, she folded the band to join SK. Admittedly Ritsuko had previously sent an audition tape to Naoko and so had already signaled her willingness to do that. I wonder how many other musicians have optimistically sent in demos to Naoko in the hope that one day their time will come.

I wonder how many other musicians have optimistically sent in demos to Naoko in the hope that one day their time will come. Oh... a few, probably. Naoko seems to bookmark people she's seen and then fish them in later. I think I have gleaned that this is what happened with Mana Nishiura, who played with everyone; then Etsuko who was also a gun for hire; then Emi herself. But only when E had already quit Ni Hao. Emi was splitting her time between 2 or 3 bands when she got a call from Atsushi Shibata, she told Tom Tom. But she speculated that the connection might have been made years earlier when Ni Hao and Shonen Knife shared a stage somewhere...

Bye Emi - we'll miss you!! So like her. Cheater left hand on that iron grille, though. We have her around till mid-July, if they stick to the plan. No more traveler's tips from Emi's Wisdom Corner, hereafter. No more powering through 3 plates at Golden Corral anytime soon, probably. That was a waifish little tweet about flying to Japan alone with only a lucky riceball for company. I hope her next band is something big on the experimental scene in JP! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-= EDITED FOR BREAKING NEWS Hoo-boy, there was a last tip from the Wisdom Corner after all. Mesh nylon underpants from Uniqlo, purchased 5 years ago, are the indispensable article for intensive band tours. Why. It's obvious isn't it? They hand wash and dry overnight, and double as body scrubbers when you're in the bath. Now you too can shower and dress like a pro when on the road. This seemed to amuse Atsuko a little. You wash your underpants, and your underpants wash you – two birds, one stone. There is a catch. The nylon undies Uniqlo sells now are not of the same make. It's got to be the vintage pantsu. AND SHE THREW HERS AWAY WHEN SHE PACKED TO GO HOME. That's completely contrary to the spirit of the advice. Why thoughtlessly diminish the world's store of irreplaceable travel panties??? Those underpants should have gone straight to eBay. Not only would they have continued to serve their travel function. The proceeds from an auction could have funded a school program somewhere, pretty sure about that.

I guess I was wrong about the Tortoise brand Emi cleaner, it should have been... ♬ Uniqlo brand Emi cleaner Specially selected Emi cleaner The best Emi cleaner in the world is Specially selected Uniqlo brand ♬ But Uniqlo brand doesn't quite have the same ring around the bath as Tortoise brand. With the dual purpose of the Uniqlo brand Emi cleaner, there's one less thing to pack when touring, and more space for green tea. It's a shame that Emi didn't give us a pic of her hard rockin' Uniqlo panties so that we'd know what to look out for. Now that she has mentioned her panties, its difficult to stop thinking about them. Nylon mesh, stop it! By the sound of it, they've been her constant companion for five years of overseas tours. That's a lot of gigging, so they must have been very hard under-wearing panties which may be why Uniqlo don't make the same ones anymore. With their easy-wash and quick-dry super-powers, one pair could easily last a lifetime. And Emi had two pairs of them! Perhaps she threw her panties away because that marks the end of her days of overseas touring. If she has thrown them away, does that mean that she's flying home "commando"? Or did she buy some of the new, inferior current ones? BTW, I just found out why Emi treated herself to two pairs of panties when she only really needed one pair - it was in-case she ever wore tights (pantyhose) One pair under the tights, and one pair over the tights to stop them sagging down and giving the "baggy ankles" look. I found out about that useful piece of information on mumsnet.

It's really more info than one strictly needs for music appreciation, but she started it. No photos was a ground rule of the discussion. Two pairs because, backup. You can get your Taurus amp head repaired on the road, but not your wash and wear mesh goods. I think the senseless destruction was kind of like burning the boats on the beach, only the direction is reversed. Dammit, if you're such a seasoned traveler, why don't you come back again?

Robby Takac has claimed that he suggested Emi to Naoko, when Etsuko "left". Believable! Why not? Unbelievable is Emi herself not knowing for sure how she got asked, if indeed she doesn't. Aki Morihito (@ees_aki) on tour in Ireland with Electric Eel Shock, fired off a tweet inviting Emi to join *his* band. I thought it was only in Silicon Valley that job offers went out over Twitter. This is probably just a bored guy in a hotel room clowning around on the Internet. Emi changed the subject to how pretty Ireland was.

I bet she's going to get hit up a LOT now and I'm sure by a bunch of hacks and wannabee's. She has to be careful not to go backwards in her career. She's smart, talented, and beautiful. She can call her own shots at least for a while.

Oh crap, the countdown clock has started up. On her Thursday afternoon, Emi had this to tweet: Emi July 2 Twitter statusAshita kara 712 Day Party ga hajimarimasu. 2010-Nen 〜 2015-nen made no maru 5-nen, shounen naifu no menba– to shite kaigai tsua– de noumitsu ni sugoshite'eta subete o, doramu no oto ni nosete hyōgen dekireba to omoimasu. Minasan ni o ai dekiru no o tanoshimi ni shiteimasu. The 712 Day Party begins anew tomorrow. Imagine if you can five round years, 2010—2015, completely chock-full of the richness of touring the world as a member of Shonen Knife, accompanied by the sound of the drum. I'm looking forward to being together with everyone. Her second sentence kind of throws me, but you get the idea. Does anyone make something a little less gnarly out of that? 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 〜 Naoko lofted this status back out there again with the comment, "Emi's last performance for Shonen Knife." (╯︵╰,) Better make that "performances", plural. I think I have it figured right, that she's done as the 12th at Umeda SHANGRI-LA. They could milk this a little harder for publicity, but they *are* making an effort.
