The best photo in my lifeHere's a slice of Emi's tour blog from October 2012 From Emi Tour diary extra edition2012/10/15 Monday shonenknife.net/blog/archives/12109Hyoooooooooo! This face, isn't it incredible!?! It's a photo taken by press when we did The OSAKA RAMONES on the first day of the tour in London.
Out of all the live photos so far, it's my number-one favorite! Good face, even if I say so myself. (lol)
This time my goal for the tour is to make everyone in the UK & EU hold their bellies and laugh "Waahaahaaaa!"!
I will do my best in this vein for the remaining half of the tour! Then in English: This is the best photo in my life! 13 OCT: a Dublin doorway down the street from Whelan's, with Marty Friedman and… Stéphan Forté?Marty Friedman had a stop in Dublin the same night on his "Guitar Universe" tour, so he made it a point to come and say hi. They had to meet up in Ireland, they couldn't just bump into each other in Tokyo.

Meanwhile back in Umeda… Dresscodes in-store live at the Umeda NU Chayamachi location, SPECIAL COLLABORATION DRINK with Tower Records. I watched "Nearly Transparent Grey" while drinking!
The new release Heibon (commonplace) is baki-baki cool!!!
OK, then. Baki-baki is the sound of wooden branches snapping and cracking, also cracking your knuckles. Or any banging or crackling that's loud and sharp. I don't know how the Heibon concept album is like that, just believe. I guess what Emi was watching while drinking is the companion DVD to the limited first pressing of the Dresscodes 5th album release. It's a movie of a concert from last Christmas eve, I read. Otherwise, no clue. Almost Transparent Blue ( Kagirinaku toumei ni chikai BURŪ) is a widely-known 1979 film adaptation by Ryuu Murakami of his classic same-titled debut novel, about a one-week descent into drug-fueled debauch. "Almost transparent grey" has been used as a catchphrase for something that's there-but-not-there. That's about as much as I can tell you. Also, a live date announced for the end of the month with Dokuros, first time in a while.

You and Emi have got me curious about Almost Transparent Blue in book or film version. The only book I've read by by Ryuu Murakami is In The Miso Soup, and that was unputdownable. I kept trying to put it down, but quickly reached for it again. The film, Audition, which was also based on one of his books was grimly riveting so I'm optimistic about ATB though it looks to be rather uncomfortable reading from the brief passages I've read of it. If I ever get to read or see it, that is.

You'd think. From what I could gather, it's Northern Kyoto where she lives. It was a temporary winter wonderland, which is why the big news.

Every time I read somebody's nickel tour of their demimonde, I end up feeling like the rube at the carnival who paid to see a stuffed monkey sewn onto half a tuna. A tuna-monkey doesn't come as a revelation, it just makes me feel bad for both parties. And Murakami I can't at all read in the original, so the authentic expression's harmed.

The only book I've read by by Ryuu Murakami is In The Miso Soup... I have Audition on DVD, and I've never yet found that the time was right to do that to myself. I haven't gotten involved with Murakami at all, really. Tuna tuna tuna tuna monkey... (repeat X lots of times) My small exposure to Murakami has left me feeling slightly grubby. I'm with you on the nickel tour thing, one I took recently was littered with praise of the author's use of language to set the scene and carry feeling. That would have been fine by me - if the reviewer hadn't been reviewing a translated work. So where did that leave me? With the Readers Digest "condensed book" version? With a scholarly work having had every sentence agonised over by a panel of experts who have appended copious footnotes and possible alternative translations. Or with something churned out by a hack who's having a bad day. Or with the novelisation of the film of the book? But hey, due to me being an ignoramus, if it wasn't for a translation, I'd never have read Les Misrables, never have watched Seven Samurai, and War and Peace wouldn't be on my "maybe read one day" list.

Latest Dokuros gig, plus a little about DokurosThe World Forever. Dokuros welcomed Argentina's ace guitarist Fernando Kabusacki live at Kyoto UrBANGUILD. Incidentally, I went out beforehand with Gwynn to quickly get familiar with the sound of the surroundings. Many times I grinned at Kabu-chan's playing, swimming superbly between Asa-chan and guitarist Muu-chan. Dokuros is Kyoto feminist art hippies, by their own account. Active since 1994/5, a couple of EPs and a couple of full-length albums. Formerly The Dokuros, formerly Asako Yamamoto and the Dokuros. Their slogan: "Rock is for women." Live they are like a pop/rock coffeehouse review. Not so far different from No Cars minus the clowning. In the last couple of years their profile has gotten lower as their focus became more local. The name means skulls or death's heads. They helpfully explain that they took it from the skull and bones insignia of comic book hero Space Pirate Captain Harlock. When Captain Harlock advanced to anime, his advertising tag was, "If you want to change the world, get on board this ship." Emi appears live with Dokuros all the time, because they are fixtures of her local Kyoto club scene. They list her as a former full member who graduated out, possibly to play for Shonen Knife way back when. In Kyoto, by now it matters as much that Emi has Ni-hao! on her resume as SK. http://instagr.am/p/BUo9YuvF_FR Asako is the original Dokuros Vo/Gt, and founding member Oyabin on bass completes the core band. Muuton of Dora Hip, Suzmenba and dubmarronics is currently the regular lead guitar, while Emi works when they need her as live support (which is a lot). http://instagr.am/p/BUs6H6_F-Ba Membership in Dokuros is somewhat fluid as they swap members with sister bands like the coopees, Niplets, Lovejoy from time to time. A few months back they had guest keyboard player Sato from VIVA for a few special shows. Itsumodemo seikai wa, The World Forever, is the Kyoto artist promotion/production collective Dokuros are associated with. Dokuros on Twitter twitter.com/the_dokurosDokuros on Instagram www.instagram.com/dokuros/Dokuros at Facebook www.facebook.com/ドクロズ-dokuros-215067251888931/Dokuros HP dokuros.hippy.jp/____ Muuton on Twitter twitter.com/moooting/〜〜〜 Fernando Kabusacki has a long history of collaborations with Japanese artists including Buffalo Daughter and Shonen Knife's friend and benefactor Seiichi Yamamoto at Namba BEARS in Osaka. Playing with Dokuros would be off-the-wall fun for him. Hope it gets onto YouTube. The bio is 10 years out of date, but… www.kabusacki.com.ar/bio_en.shtml
