[glow=red,2,300]Talk about ANYTHING pertaining to Ets-chan HERE![/glow] Let me start: When Ets-chan began with the band , i was less than impressed; she wasn't nearly the drummer that Atsuko was, but, 5 years later, Etsuko leaves the band as the best drummer I've ever heard; and certainly the best female drummer in history! She was such a combination of talent and amazing beauty; we will all miss her! (Mind you, thx to Emi-chan's wonderful personality, Etsuko's exit from the band isn't nearly as hard to take as I thought it would be!)

I'm surprised there aren't more replies on this thread... I guess Emi really has won everyone over 0.o

Yes, Emi made us forget about Etsuko, haha!
By the way, does anybody know why Etsuko left the band?

Ahhh so she WAS pregnant (That was one of the rumours going around...I was one of those spreading it at one time haha) Well, good luck to her, I wish Naoko had given her the pregnancy leave though...I don't know what the laws are pertaining to that in Japan

OK, I'll bite. I’m not like, “Bring back Etchan, now!” But I love seeing that shock of chestnut hair swinging behind the tom toms in older videos. As a drummer, she had speed, power, precision but with freedom… Her sound was crisp and driving, never just a time clock, and never getting in anybody’s way. She could do these explosive little fills that would veer all over like falling down stairs and still land on the beat. She could make a cymbal shimmer. She wasn't exactly dropping bombs, but when she would open up on a real rocker, if you weren’t your toes you’d be scrambling just to to stay with her. She really had a jet takeoff. Sometimes people get down on her for not playing to the crowd. But she was playing for the band! With concentration and dedication, and not off in some world of her own, either. When she knew she was really on top of it, or sometimes when she would spot a camera on her, she would break out in this big smile of pure pleasure at having an audience to lay her talent in front of. There’s just no way anyone can say she wasn’t getting the job done. Naoko doesn’t make that kind of hiring mistake. She was good for SK, and that was good for us. Listen to her work on “Slug” or look at this 10-minute clip from the 2006 Rock in Japan Festival. I just hope she’s playing now. C’mon, kid, put on these muffs and let’s go down to the basement. Let me show you what mommy’s made of.

Not to knock Etsuko, who is arguably the best female drummer of all time, but, somehow, Emi has won me over completely.

Not to knock Etsuko, who is arguably the best female drummer of all time, but, somehow, Emi has won me over completely. It's nothing against Emi, who is perfect for the drum stool right now. Getting snowed in at the airport for 2 days might be more fun with Emi. But so what? To dwell on comparisons like that only slights everybody, and slighting Etsuko is super short-sighted. When Shonen Knife needed extra thrust, Etsuko turned on the afterburners.

Oh, stop waving that stick, you mousey little… uncharismatic drum player, or whatever you are. Bah. I'm not putting Etsuko down, she is an amazing drummer and I think her contribution to SK will not be forgotten.
