Mikkai to Miminari (密会と耳鳴り, みっかいとみみなり)
Mimimi (みみみ) for short
From their web profile at mikkaitomiminari.jimdo.com :
Emanating from Osaka, a 4-female gang alternative fashion rock band.
Music you can't get out of your ears, like tinnitus. The fascination and
power of women comes shooting like a bullet, straight through your heart.
L/R: Ba. Yone, Vo/Gt. Chako, Dr. Mel, Gt. Hase. Those look like re-purposed Santa's Helper jumpers from Christmas.

It's last year's, still current. Rock bands are supposed to glower in promo shots. Mimimi chose their backdrop
to give them something to glower about. When you hang out with them for a while, it's obvious they don't
accept prevailing attitudes toward women. On the contrary, they like the idea of smashing patriarchy very
much. Of course, they use male foibles to get attention, so their classic pornoctopus pic works for them
both ways. Girls go eww and boys go hmm. Man, it's hard out there.

Band history and nature
Their base is Osaka, and they formed in 2011. If they're in their mid-twenties now, that makes them
another band that started when a lot of people would be at university or professional school.
Mel turned 21 on or about 2012 NOV 21

Descriptive terms for their sound: alternative fashion, alternative violence, NO LADY. As far as I can tell,
all of that is stuff they made up out of their heads. If you draw a straight line between the urgent girly
math-rock of tricot and the mixed-genre freakouts of Boiler Rikugame, Mimimi belong somewhere to
the left of that. Chako was in mourning on her blog because work wouldn't permit her to attend the
final tricot show with Komaki as drummer.
Goofing on manga nerds – the official Shikkin Shoujo band portrait. Checks, plaids and camou rule.
At a gig on the second of June 2014, they closed the door on their prior history. That was because
they wished to ditch their original name, 失禁少女 (Shikkin Shoujo, "Incontinence Girl(s)"), an image
management move they had planned for over 8 months.
They might have liked the old name for its literal meaning, which is "girls losing control of themselves,"
in the sense of not holding back on prohibited things.
The old Twitter account was deleted, but many Shikkin Shoujo postings survive.

2013 NOV 16, first notice of name change, still bare-legged in brightly
colored yukatas. Yone-chan made the announcement, possibly because her
Twitter account was one that would carry forward. I think she is flaunting
a felt-tip marker tattoo of sportive dugongs here.

They left their old website up. It's interesting.

Former profile statement
Formed in 2011 on August 24!
Active in the Kansai area
Catchy, abnormal rock
Wild-thing bishoujo no lady
Girls' band ♡♡
Real-world singing about
Discontent trash-heap women young girls
When Mimimi say "abnormal", they're saying hentai-tekki, which Google will
tell you means "kinky". That doesn't really go far enough, though. Calling
somebody hentai is labeling them an out-an-out pervert. Though it's a label
more and more people are willing to wear — including Mimimi, at least as
a matter of sarcasm.
That they are deliberately weird has been quite true. They claim to represent
bishoujo, the pretty-girl aesthetic... but actually they go with strange and
ugly every chance they get. They're the kind of girls with doll torsos instead
of dolls, because the heads and limbs have all been twisted off.

About the mouthful of a name
Literally, mikkai to miminari = clandestine meeting with/in addition to sounding in the ear
While "miminari" is a word for ringing or buzzing of the ears (tinnitus),
"nari" (鳴り) really means almost any kind of sound you need it to.
That's why tinnitus is not such a hot English translation of their name.
They're not about ruining your hearing.
Before bandleader Chako researched the medical definition of miminari, it looks
like she was attracted to it for its literal sense: sound recurring in the ear.
What any musician tries to bring about.
So if you've got to have English for the band's full name, I don't know a good option.
The menu looks like:
• Clandestine Meeting(s) and Sounding(s) in the Ear(s)
• Trysts and Tinnitus
• Earbuzz with an Assignation
• Rendezvous and Phantom Auditory Phenomena
The only one that sounds half-decent is still too old-fashioned and physiological. If they were
a book or a movie, you'd just give up and rename them completely. But there is a way out.
Like any band with more than one fan, they have a nickname: Mimimi.
Might as well use it.
