Very entertaining, um, "interview." I can still see that there may have been some 'lost in translation' moments there. She may have been living in LA for a number of years at the time, but that doesn't mean much as far as someone's English improving or even beginning. Many immigrants here are rather isolated within their own communities, and it's very possible Atsuko-san only ever has interactions with other Japanese in the area. I don't know why her English isn't better than it is, since she lives in LA with her American husband... but, we managed. I found Atsuko to be so very nice and easy to talk to, though I will agree her English listening abilities are seemingly somewhat limited. When we were talking, I would say something, and she would smile and look at me, but maybe the comprehension wasn't there; I'm glad I had my Japanese friend there to translate and then her eyes lit up and the cute laughter started. I mentioned that my "friend" Robert Hecker from Redd Kross told me that his best friend married the bass player, she gave me a weird look. I knew Michie married a guy in Boston, therefore it could only be Atsuko the he married. I playfully pointed at Atsuko meaning "it had to be you", and she did the Asian "OIE" noise the women like to make, and then I felt like an idiot, but oh well, and quickly changed the subject to giving her the red San Diego Hash House Harriers t-shirt since the theme in October was Rock n Roll T-shirt. As far as her English skills and living in LA, being married to a local guy from the South Bay area of LA, you would naturally think her assimilation over the years would be more complete than it is. Maybe she's holding back from us so we think she's keeping her Japanese lifestyle as part of the SK persona, or she just doesn't get out much and mingle with Americans that often. Just a guess on my part. In May when I spoke with her and did the mandatory selfie, she was like an excited school girl, all bouncing around, smiley, and enjoyed being the center of attention. What a neat woman, truly a joy to be in close proximity with her, and she says she remembers me and knows who I am! (Warm fuzzy glow envelopes me...)

— Atsuko's big interviewThe younger Yamano hasn't troubled herself too much about correct English, but I don't know that she misses a lot. She never seems at a loss for idiom. Her home up in the hills somewhere looks anything but ghetto. That's what I mean about she understands more than what she's letting on, it is a part of the act. We are the humble Yamano sisters (and Risa) playing for you, we come from Osaka, Japan. In the meantime she understands everything we say! Lol... Do you happen to know just what hills she resides in? My curiosity over the last 2.5 years has not waned any, I'm just wondering how far away she is from where my stomping grounds used to be.

My curiosity over the last 2.5 years has not waned any, I'm just wondering how far away she is from where my stomping grounds used to be. Naw, and if I had any real idea of her home address it'd be a sin to say. Doxxing your favorite famous people on the internet is crazy. 〜〜〜 Just by paying attention to what they say and do, I've come to the opinion that Atsuko's English listening skills are way more comprehensive than Naoko's, and Naoko's speaking and writing skills are way more correct than Atsuko's. Naoko studied English, reads it and writes it often, uses it in conversation not too often. Atsuko's the exact opposite, but she's satisfied as long as she's getting along. Why should she worry about native-speaker ability when it's cuter not to have it? They both get lost right away around somebody who's street-talking a mile a minute. 〜〜〜 My landlady was born in China, living in the US maybe 20 years. She's got a strong accent, but she can speak fluently about anything. Technical vocabulary, no problem. She's never really learned the visual skill of reading English. When she looks at a page, she sees thousands of characters instead of hundreds of words. She'd rather crawl through broken glass than read an English book, even if the same book on tape would be a breeze. She could fix that with a couple of years of study, but it's not worth it to her, she has other stuff to do.

That's a not so easy to interpret, but if Atusko was feeling a little intruded on I don't think I could blame her. When public people get within arm's reach of the public, all their advantages disappear and suddenly you completely have the drop on them. Because you know all sorts of stuff about them, and they know zip about you, and it can be socially very weird and anxious... but one thing about Atsuko, she's highly resilient.

No doxxing intent, just curiosity, especially when there's the possibility of a mutual friend or two, or something else in common from living in close proximity.

Keep an eye out in Japantown for a cute 50-ish female with long dark hair and huge sunglasses. That should be no problem to spot and you both like the same band so it's automatic ice creams and BFF!

Do you mean... I think any of those would be awesome to take bowling. A tennis date is probably bad. She's a cutthroat, and she does a victory dance after she trashes you. Ask Naoko. Hmm... I had posted a reply here two days ago, and nada. I was thanking you for the "Hotlink for Forums" tip.
Also there is a reply missing...

Look at the recent history in your user proffle if you want to follow up. Postimage lets you create hyperlinks for various environments that have incompatible requirements. "Hotlink for forums" = embed at full size "Thumbnail for forums" = you see a little thumbnail that links to the original, which can be a very cool thing.
